Hi zoo. I first thought about having a baby on my own a couple of years ago but then decided I would try the dating thing again. Split up with my ex December 16 and then seriously started thinking about it again. Just decided that I would be devastated if I couldn't have a child so went along to my initial appointment. At that point I was 34 so it was a massive shock to be told that I had a low ovarian reserve! Ended up having IVF in August/September last year. I didn't respond well to the medication and only 2 of the 5 eggs they collected fertilised. I was massively lucky and am now 27+1 weeks along. I would definitely recommend at least getting baseline tests done and you can always decide to wait if all looks good. Success rates for IVF/IUI do drop quite significantly when you get older though so worth thinking about.

Zoo33 · 09/03/2018 21:43

@Ttc2017 That's very true, I think it's far better to bring a child up in a happy single parent home than in a completely messed up relationship with miserable parents.

@Wonky35 Thanks, I hadn't considered getting the baseline tests done. There's definitely no harm in it and I suppose if it shows up a nasty surprise, I can crack on. Might have to put the house buying on hold but it would absolutely be worth it!

I was lucky enough to conceive quickly after coming off the pill, but obviously couldn't hold onto it. Would the tests show if there was a genetic issue at my end? I suppose this is really a question for the open day, I must write them down...

Wonky35 · 09/03/2018 23:10

The tests I had don't tell you about genetic problems zoo. They just give you an idea of your egg reserves. Generally as you get older your eggs will be of poorer quality but you are still young enough that I don't think it would be an issue. They might do additional tests if you had had recurrent miscarriages but not sure which ones. I only had AMH and antral follicle count done initially. Others might have had others though.

ButtonMooooon · 09/03/2018 23:10

Am currently in a self preservation phase I think - I don't even want another bloody baby and all the sleepless nights, DS is nearly 7 why would I want to start again I really do Sad

Zoo33 · 09/03/2018 23:40

@Wonky35 I came across a thread on the Conception board in which they were saying 30 was far too old to have a baby. It's utter nonsense of course but fertility isn't exactly straightforward, is it?! I always thought (in my naive life plan) I'd have two by now. 😕 I haven't had recurrent miscarriages thankfully (one after one attempt).

I keep reading about clinics in Prague and Greece. Have you all been UK based or did any of you go aboard? Presumably it's mainly a cost issue rather than a success rate thing?

Zoo33 · 09/03/2018 23:49

@Latenightreader Just wanted to say sorry for my insensitive question about why it's taken two years. I should learn to read the thread properly first. Thanks

Starshine1 · 10/03/2018 08:03

Button moon- that’s exactly what I tell myself most days. Or that we should just get a dog 🐕 hope you have some good news about donor soon

Mandy002 · 10/03/2018 08:46

I went to Greece. They were fantastic and I fell pregnant with first go at DE treatment. Unfortunately since then I've not had a single normal thing happen to me. Numbers at 2nd beta hcg rose slightly and progesterone went down. I've been bleeding the whole way through and now this morning I stupidly did another clear blue digital conception test which has gone DOWN from 2-3 weeks to 1-2 weeks. I'm really starting to loose hope. Sorry rant over.

I decided to go it alone when I split up with my x around my 36th birthday. It suddenly dawned on me that it was a very real possibility that I might end up alone and I realised that that didn't really bother me....what I found terrifying was that I might not be able to be a parent. Anyway 4 years later after failed attempts with my own eggs and donor sperm here I am finally with a BFP but for how much longer I'm not sure. Anyway best of luck with it all.

Zoo33 · 10/03/2018 09:40

@Mandy002 I'm so sorry to hear this. Rant away. Thanks

Ttc2017 · 10/03/2018 16:09

Fingers crossed for you Mandy when do you find out more?

Is it normal to have a bit of pain in side (ovaries.i think) more discomfort or just a weird feeling really not pain from the injections? Could be totally unrelated x

pickle162 · 10/03/2018 22:42

Oh Mandy I'm so sorry things seem to be getting worse. Keeping everything crossed

Zoo33 · 10/03/2018 23:54

I've just had dinner with a gay friend and told him about my sperm donor / fertility clinic idea. I think he thought I was going to ask him to donate! He looked a bit panicked for a second. Confused

Mandy002 · 11/03/2018 07:18

Thanks @pickle162 @Zoo33 , I'm just trying to get through to blood tests on Monday now- which I'm doing in the morning so I don't have to wait all day. Did another CBD this morning and at least it's still showing as positive. The gynea ward also rang yesterday to book a scan on Wednesday. So fingers crossed the drop on the CBD is just a miscarried twin. I know that doesn't sound like good news but out of the options I have at the moment this seems to be best case scenario. 🙏🏻👶🏻

LRDtheFeministDragon · 11/03/2018 07:35

Grin zoo, that's hilarious! When DP and I were first doing this, not one both both sets of grandparents asked as, as if it were obvious, if we'd be asking our brothers to donate (one each for a non-related one of us). We really didn't like the idea, but I think awkward conversations around this question are the norm!

mandy, good luck getting a blood test. I will be keeping fingers crossed tight for you.

Zoo33 · 11/03/2018 09:54

@LRDtheFeministDragon That's really funny and would have been quite confusing if you'd gone for it! I think I'd far rather awkward questions from supportive and interested family and friends than them being horrified by the idea generally.

Mandy002 · 11/03/2018 16:34

Hi all, quick question....do any of the ivf you can take cause your sense of taste to change. I just had fish and chips which I normally love and ended up leaving half of it. I could have not eaten the lot but thought that I need to have something to eat. Before I start being hopeful it's something else I wanted to make sure it can't be the drugs and google was no help whatsoever. Thanks.

Mandy002 · 11/03/2018 16:35

Thanks @LRDtheFeministDragon how are things going for you?

Mandy002 · 11/03/2018 16:36

Thanks @pickle162 I hope things are progressing well for you.

Smithguy86 · 11/03/2018 21:25

Hope the test results are good tomorrow Mandy!

Hope the tww isnt too horrible for all those waiting!

TinyPaws · 11/03/2018 22:22

Wow, this thread moves fast! I’m keeping a low profile as trying to stay chilled out and manage expectations during the 2WW. I’ve had either food poisoning or a tummy bug which is not ideal.

Fingers crossed for good results tomorrow Mandy

LRD how are you holding up?

Bear1980 · 12/03/2018 08:54

Good luck with bloods today mandy

LRDtheFeministDragon · 12/03/2018 09:47

I'm doing ok, tiny (and thanks for asking too, mandy). I also think it was a 'not ideal' 2WW, as we all had bad colds last week and I felt thoroughly rotten for a few days. I'm drinking plenty of fluids but otherwise just trying to be calm and not get OTT about things.

Slightly annoyed with DP as we went to a family party at the weekend and she'd promised not to mention it as she knows I am nervous about miscarriage/not getting pregnant, and as soon as someone asked if we had any baby related plans she said 'ooh, shall we tell them?' Which, of course is telling them, and I couldn't very well say 'no'! Still, it is what it is.

mandy, best of luck this morning.

pickle162 · 12/03/2018 10:08

Good luck with bloods Mandy.

Sorry can't remember where everyone else is but best of luck peeps x

Ttc2017 · 12/03/2018 10:59

Good luck Mandy!

Lrd I would be the same I keep everything quiet until I'm sure it OK but least it was family I guess so they will keep it quiet within the family?

Had day 7 scan got two main follies 9m and lots small ones don't know if that Good or bad keeping meds the same and back for next scan on Thurs x

LRDtheFeministDragon · 12/03/2018 12:25

That sounds good! The small ones will most likely not mature, but having a 9mm at day 7 is good - you want follicles to get to 16mm at a minimum by the time you ovulate (and not more than 30mm, but they won't let that happen!), and they grow at different rates depending on you/your drugs, but last week I was told something like 2mm per day is around average. So that would be dead on schedule.
