Things I wasn't aware of until I joined MN

This is meant to be light-hearted, as i'm snowed in and climbing the walls. If it gets 5 posts I'll be surprised.

Also this could end up with me and Belfastbloke posting.

But as a Dad wending my slightly puzzled way through life. Until I landed on MN I'd never heard, thought of or been aware of the following:

  1. Greggs sausage rolls and Fruit Shoots are considered the work of the devil. I love the sausage rolls.
  1. Wohm and SAHM debate, it's never cropped up before in my life, surely it's whatever suits each family.
  1. Boden. Never ever heard of it before.
  1. Breast and bottle feeding. Never really had an
opinion, if it wasn't working for the mother, fair enough I thought.
  1. Zombie plans. Absolutely brilliant idea.
  1. Pantenne, never heard of it but I'll give it a try. I
thought it was a shampoo.
  1. How many men are considered twats.
  1. Never seen the word cunt written down so many times and used in conversations.
  1. Never realized how many feisty intelligent women
there are out there and wish I met more like you in RL (sounds a bit arse-licky but true) as i don't like cars debating with men can be so boring.

Self-indulgent? Probably.

Bored out of my brains? Yes, I need to get out again
and participate in some sort of sporting activity.

Any more things men (or women) didn't know.

Or am I on my own in dadsnet?

He has met some very interesting wierdos characters on there, owning every ps1 game ever produced anyone (and every version of each one)?????

FunnysInTheGarden · 21/12/2010 22:50

OMFG UQD do you not realise that BF/FF debates are HIGHLY political even if you just post a very innocent question about how to make up a bottle? Jeysus you are sooooooo uninformed. How on earth do you think you will ever make the grade as a SAHD without a solid opinion one way or the other about the politics of BF innit?

UnquietDad · 21/12/2010 22:53

I'm not "uninformed" (you see? this is how nit all starts...) I just feel people should do what suits them best and STFU.

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 22:55

I don't think I'd want to go on a 90% male website. I get enough of that percentage of testosterone at work.

I think women should breastfeed and stay at home.
Oh hang on I mean bottlefeed and go to work, no bottlefeed and SAH...

funkingcart · 21/12/2010 22:56

DILLIGAF?

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 22:58

Does it?

OP posts:
FunnysInTheGarden · 21/12/2010 23:00

how all 'nits' start? Now that is a different subject. My god I wish I was a man, twould all be so easy.........just do what suits them best? You have no idea. We are talking about ruining the future for our children here.......

happybubblebrain · 21/12/2010 23:00

Truckulent - I completely agree with most of your points, especially number 9. Most of the women I know in real life are a bit basic. I have heard of Boden and I know what a Panatone is, but what is a zombie plan?

UnquietDad · 21/12/2010 23:02

It's nothing to do with being a man though... It wasn't a huge debate for DW either...

Panatone sounds like a mixture of fruity bread, shampoo and some sort of synthesiser box.

happybubblebrain · 21/12/2010 23:03

Oh - I've just seen the link to zombie plan. I've just learnt that I should actually read the thread before commenting.

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 23:05

zombie plan

The main thing I like is if you say something without any facts you get called on it. You can't spout hearsay and rumours, well not often anyway.

OP posts:
Valpollicella · 21/12/2010 23:05

Don't dis the Panettone

Tis Xmas in a box for us Iti expats

CarGirl · 21/12/2010 23:06

UQD & Truck perhaps you should just host parties on more frequently and invite us in from next door?

The offer of alcohol will get most of us coming along and we could even let you choose the topic of conversation?

You haven't mentioned the other political things such as PTA membership and how to get into the best school at any cost.......

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 23:09

I didn't have much of a say in the matter of breast/bottle or wohm/sahm circumstances dictated what happened.

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 21/12/2010 23:10

Yes, same here really.

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 23:12

I avoided the PTA therefore always lost out on the front-row seats at the school plays. And DC ended up as third tree or man in the casting.

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 23:16

A party?

I'm pretty scared of groups of drunk women, they may well...mock me. I had to go in a factory when I was a youth there was about 40 female machinists, the things they said, I've never blushed so much.

FiveOrangePips · 21/12/2010 23:20

I love the zombie plan, I have learnt a lot on mn, but had heard of Boden and the mooncup.

Lots of sexual terms, trying to wash my mind of them now, because your thread reminded me of them now.

Oh and the words, norks and twunt both very useful imho.

UQD I saw your comment and it raised a smile but I am not a fan of exceedingly fine cakes or handbags so did not feel compelled to comment.

spidookly · 21/12/2010 23:21

DH found a site when I first used to come to MN that was basically men talking about pimping prams.

He got really into it for a while, but his interest waned when I said I didn't really want to spend £60 on a wheel off the Internet so he could make our £500 pram "better".

Now he spends his time on the Internet talking to his real friends about psephology and other nerd things.

I can't imagine him on MN. Sometimes I tell him about the shit MN husbands and the unbelievably crap ways they treat their partners. I think he thinks I make some of them up.

That is something I had no idea about before I joined MN - how many women are in appalling relationships with horrible men who treat them like crap. Some of the things I read on here make my hair stand on end.

FunnysInTheGarden · 21/12/2010 23:22

I bet your DW would have her penneth though UQD and Truck come to that. She twas not a huge debate, but behind closed doors...............these things gen are quite pertinent.

blinder · 21/12/2010 23:32

Did someone say 'feminist section' a little while ago?

stamps in wearing dungarees, vomits on table

Sorry bout that.

leaves again slamming door behind her

blinder · 21/12/2010 23:35

pops back in excitedly

Oooh you can italicise a whole sentence in one go now! Does it work with bold too?

coughs, examines outmoded patriarchal Dadsnet over glasses sternly. Leaves

catinthehat2 · 21/12/2010 23:36

PLease can someone remind me of DILLIGAF?

It was on the big deletd thread and I forgot to commit it to memory. It was the sort of acronym I like as well I think.

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 23:37

I warned you UQD they hear everything.

OP posts:
Truckulent · 21/12/2010 23:39
