Things I wasn't aware of until I joined MN

This is meant to be light-hearted, as i'm snowed in and climbing the walls. If it gets 5 posts I'll be surprised.

Also this could end up with me and Belfastbloke posting.

But as a Dad wending my slightly puzzled way through life. Until I landed on MN I'd never heard, thought of or been aware of the following:

  1. Greggs sausage rolls and Fruit Shoots are considered the work of the devil. I love the sausage rolls.
  1. Wohm and SAHM debate, it's never cropped up before in my life, surely it's whatever suits each family.
  1. Boden. Never ever heard of it before.
  1. Breast and bottle feeding. Never really had an
opinion, if it wasn't working for the mother, fair enough I thought.
  1. Zombie plans. Absolutely brilliant idea.
  1. Pantenne, never heard of it but I'll give it a try. I
thought it was a shampoo.
  1. How many men are considered twats.
  1. Never seen the word cunt written down so many times and used in conversations.
  1. Never realized how many feisty intelligent women
there are out there and wish I met more like you in RL (sounds a bit arse-licky but true) as i don't like cars debating with men can be so boring.

Self-indulgent? Probably.

Bored out of my brains? Yes, I need to get out again
and participate in some sort of sporting activity.

Any more things men (or women) didn't know.

Or am I on my own in dadsnet?

Is that Christmas over already?

Another things I didn't know until MN.

That there was this level of support for women, at times posts do seem to be taken as gospel (unless it is a step-mum, man or the other woman), and it would be interesting to hear the other side as it can't always be the mans fault, can it?

It'd be good for a site offering men this level of advice, but I suppose we are too busy running the world.

(apparently we do, another thing I didn't know)

BelfastBloke · 07/01/2011 14:53

I do run the world, actually, when I'm not wiping up pureed carrot and viscous poo.

Why the name-change, Truck? Or are you two different posters?

Truckulente · 08/01/2011 09:16

Got bored.

eeore · 29/01/2011 00:23

I never knew that people were so obsessed with acronyms. Or use them so sarcastically.

Truckulente · 01/02/2011 21:03

I never knew that an impending full moon made a forum go a bit strange. This place is weird tonight.
May have to watch TV instead.

Saltatrix · 03/02/2011 20:08

That the internet is serious business.

Pan · 03/02/2011 23:47

that some people have...ishoooos they project.

and some posters who say they are women are actually men. But never vice versa.

Truckulente · 04/02/2011 13:38

If men are pretending to be women on here do they after a while:

Get irrational one week a month for no apparent reason.
Expect men to read their minds regarding presents.
Start buying scatter cushions.

Describe cars by colour rather than by make.

Just a thought.

hormonesnomore · 04/02/2011 13:46

Oooh Truckulente, I hope you're wearing your hard hat...

Truckulente · 09/02/2011 00:03

I see Dadsnet is as dead as a very dead thing.
It should be Mumsnet by women for women.

BelfastBloke · 11/02/2011 08:08

Are you disillusioned, Truck?

givemesomespace · 28/02/2011 18:51

The extent to which bitterness can prevail

Truckrelented · 12/07/2011 17:30

Just thought I'd post on one of my old threads.

Things learnt reading MN today.

Step-mothers aren't very popular and

Hell certainly hath no fury like a woman scorned.

GiveMeSomeSpace · 12/07/2011 22:49

Things are still pretty quiet in this neck of the woods Truck. Glad you came back.
Anyway - back to the subject of the thread, things I wasn't aware of:

How many women have had such a rough life at the hands of some pretty awful men.

How much good advice I would get here.

ihatecbeebies · 14/07/2011 22:37

I still have no idea what Boden is, what is it?

One (very disturbing) thing I was made aware of through mumsnet is that woman that have the final say in deciding how much time a father should see his child after a separation can easily deny any overnight access or longer access by pretending that they still breastfeed (this applies to younger children obv) so child has to stay with mother.

After reading that in several different threads and seeing other posters also seeing it as the norm I stopped going on mumsnet for a long time.

gallicgirl · 14/07/2011 23:56

I never knew there was a dadsnet!

Boden is a catalogue of over-priced clothes much loved by middle-class women in south-west London. Although I may be biased as I can't afford to shop there. Wink

I was saddened at what awful lives people seem to have in regards to relationships, be it with partners or parents or in-laws, but you have to remember that this is just a snap-shot and there are millions of people out there living quite happy little lives.

Truckrelented · 16/07/2011 14:21

I wasn't aware that the full moon had such an effect on people.
There's a lot of aggression out there.
