Is anyone up for a photo thread? Mumsnet is pretty international and there should be some good entries. I'll kick off with some from my ride today through the Irish countryside.

Didn'y know you could take bikes on a plane!! Wow! was it expensive?

purpleleotard · 01/06/2017 18:40

£30 each way.
You have to take them to bits: wheels out of the frame, let the air out of the tyres, saddle out, handle bars taken out and pedal taken off. Then put into a transit bag.
30 mins work or so
But it does mean you can ride your own bike not have to struggle with a hired machine.
I booked the first and last night so we could build on arrival and break down for return flight. The hotel was chosen because they could look after the bags for the week.

katymac · 01/06/2017 20:08

Wow - we couldn't do that but it sounds fab!

leonardthelemming · 01/06/2017 22:19

I had been cycling, honest! Just taking a shortcut home.

Not far from home and I am sticking to the low roads but I could pretend.

One from today, I don't think I managed to capture how utterly torrential the rain was ☔ luckily only for a couple of cloud bursts and not all day!

Fab katymac. I don't suppose you noticed the long drag up to the church with your motor 😁. Where are you staying/off to next ??

Flavia, we are due that weather here tomorrow. I won't be cycling to work.

katymac · 04/06/2017 21:29

TheLongRider · 05/06/2017 08:21

I did a mammoth 600km cycle in 40 hours from 6am Saturday morning to 10pm Sunday night, right around the middle of Ireland.

  1. Somewhere in Tipperary
  2. Lough Derg on the way to Portumna
  3. Carrick on Shannon at 5am

Cool photos all!

Wow! Congratulations TheLongRider that's amazing! I'm in proper awe at that.

Lake country up in Cavan/Leitrim.

A carved stone from 100BC, that's my bike in the background, the water bottle is because I forgot my bidons! I only realised after 40km, I have about 20 at home so I wasn't buying a new one.

A short one for me today 60 miles average speed of 15.5 miles, but it was very flat. Summer is here and this is an example of mediaeval Irish monastic architecture. The round tower at Taghadoe.

We did 38km today!! (24 miles?)

7.5 miles of the hilliest rollercoaster of Welsh hills - then 16 (ish) of marginally less hilly to avoid the route we came on - I can barely walk!!

Lake Geneva when I was there last month with work. Fabulous

Nice photos, is that your fair weather bike TheLongRider?

I have barely touched my bike for the last two weeks but I am going to France at the weekend for four days of cycling Shock.

TheLongRider · 20/06/2017 15:49

Yep! That's the summer bike for dry days because I cannot be arsed to fit mudguards to it. It's an aluminium Rose bike, I love their products and I'd recommend their women's cycling kit, it's very good quality for the price.

It's fantastic weather over here, my farmer's tan is coming along nicely.

I noticed the lack of mudguards Grin.

I ❤️ Rose. My Ortleib panniers and bags came from there. There was a problem with one of the welds on a seam. I had a new one less than 48 hours later.

BarchesterFlowers · 24/06/2017 10:37

Not quite from my bike but I did arrive here by 🚴🏿. Our annual 🇫🇷 🚴🏿 Weekend.

Can I join in? This is my copilot. Shortly to be moving to the cheap seats as cycling with my knees out is setting my SPD off, and he keeps grabbing the handle bars and trying to take over 😱😂

I'm just back holidays in France Barchester, hope the heatwave is over for you!

Spudlet awh! He looks so pleased with himself, I'm sure he thinks he's the one doing the work Grin

BarchesterFlowers · 24/06/2017 16:42

It is perfect Flavia 16-18 degrees, light cloud. Today's photo, we rode back to Dieppe and went to the Museum en route before having an ice cream on the beach.

First time out today for a month, if I hadn't been out with friends I think I'd have fallen into a hedge and whimpered until a bus came Grin

Lovely photos - adorable co-pilot!!

We were in Thetford today & it was very disappointing, loads of the tracks were closed for forestry work with great big "Don't go here" signs all over the place so we kept turning back & trying a different way but ended up on the road Sad then on the way back we were told it would have been OK to go there as they don't work weekends....it would have been nice if they had put that on the signs!!

Passed by the place where some of "The Vikings" TV series was filmed, Lough Dan in Co. Wicklow.
