The Coronation disgusted me, bring down the monarchy

Coronation rant

Well I for one am absolutely disgusted at the coronation. It was the most blatant Display of the ‘haves’ flaunting what they have stolen from the ‘have nots’ I have ever seen.

First major theft

Between £100 million and £250 million cost of the coronation paid for by taxpayers

WTF!!! Who sanctioned that off? Do they not realise we have a cost of living crisis, many of their subjects are living below the breadline, can’t afford to heat their homes, can’t afford to buy the food their family needs, our country has been robbed and pillaged by the conservatives. And someone somewhere sanctioned upto £250 mil for a glorified party for the elite!!

Firstly, they should have paid for it themselves. Who pays for your child’s party? Or for your wedding? You and if you’re lucky, your family chip in. If someone told me the state would pay for my wedding for example, yes I might get a very expensive dress, I might have a free bar and some might see that as piss taking. But how about having hundreds of horses and guards paid to practice for months to put on an elaborate display in the streets? The security (yes they need a lot of security because their stealing from the people) all that money for what?? History, tradition? You can stick tradition where the sun doesn’t shine if it means that we the tax payers have far less for us for the next few years.

Can you imagine what would happen if that money was shared between the poorest 30% in this country? That would a country I would be proud to be part of, I am not proud of that disgusting coronation.

Second major theft

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The people invited are mainly elite and rich. So yet again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the rich use the poor peoples money to pay for all of the security to stop the poor from protesting against this blatant theft.

I disagree with a class system because it upholds the belief that we are not all equal. I am a huge fan of equality and I hate bullying, theft, and enforcement of class.

We need to find a peaceful way to end the royal family. It’s outdated and doesn’t represent our country.

End the monarchy now

And yes, I know there are other threads about this, we need to keep taking about it...

@Sexisthairdressers

We get to elect our Govt. That's working out SO well, I can see why you want to elect a presidential team instead of the monarchy.

& the tourism ££ would just roll in to see them, bringing in so much money to the country...

there's a 📦 try thinking outside of it

Unnecessarily rude. Reported.

MillieOns · 07/05/2023 12:51

We’ll get to do it all again, soon, when William and Kate are crowned 👑 👑

Are they having an investiture to officially announce them Prince and Princess of Wales? Charles did.

Anyway now the pomp and ceremony is over (and what a lovely day it was) who’s looking forward to the concert tonight? You need not reply OP. I’m sure you’ll be out searching for the homeless, bringing them back to yours for the night to make sure they are warm and fed.

Teentaxidriver · 07/05/2023 12:53

OP, please do bore off dear or better still, go and live in a republic.

Really not sure why you needed to be rude.

People get who they choose. We don't have to vote for idiots.

Proud to be British. Long live the King!

Sssshhh we aren't allowed to think like that apparently 🤣

However I agree with you 100%

Long live the King.

Oh and I'm still proud to be British. Lucky me.

I liked it, I think it’s great what It did for business and the economy and I felt it great watching people celebrate and have fun. Today there are parties all over the country. And I think they did the uk proud on the world stage.

Guardiansofthegalaxi · 07/05/2023 12:56

I only watched the highlights but thought it was brilliant. Not sure that means I can’t think critically though. As a PP has mentioned, the amount of money generated for the economy off the back of this will be huge. So to me, if you ignore that, that demonstrates that maybe you cannot think critically. I just wouldn’t get so worked up about this tbh. Also kind of bonkers to think this has been put in the crime section 😂

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 12:58

Op thinks it's a 'crime' 😂

I watched Mirror Mirror on tv on Friday night, it's an updated version of Snow White. It depicts a wicked queen taking taxes from the poor to pay for her lavish parties.

Then I watched the coronation the next morning and thought, so it's still happening then.

AlNd we are allowing it.

I don't hate the royals as people, but I hate the principle of royalty. I used to be on the fence but upto £250 million while many of us are on our knees!!!

Surely by watching it, you are helping to uphold the system? The time spent watching it could have been spent volunteering at a food bank or doing something to make the world a better place.

ohsuzannah · 07/05/2023 12:59

You sound like my dd.
She wouldn't let me watch it 😒

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 13:00

It's a crime against humanity to have one family held up above all others, we're all equal.

littleripper · 07/05/2023 13:01

You are absolutely right OP. I also find it really embarrassing. It's all reminiscent of Russian/North Korean displays of wealth and power to me.

Basilthymerosemary · 07/05/2023 13:02

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:17

Tradition is peer pressure from dead people, we need to rethink things, I don't want a king or a queen, I want a government with morals that looks after the most vulnerable (unlike the tories who enjoy playing the system and finding new ways to channel more and more money to the elite). I want equality for all humans.

You will never get equality. You can aim for equal opportunities but never equality. Some people will always be better off.

I definitely enjoyed it. I loved the pomp and gallantry that only royal events produce. It's been a bleak few years, so something for people to enjoy if they chose to us no bad thing. It doesn't personally cost you anything in that you wouldn't pay less tax if it didn't happen.

You come across as very bitter and envious. The monarchy have no say in how money is spent- if you want to change that- vote for MPs that have the same values as you. Create a new party and label yourself as a republican fighting for your cause. Unless you are actively doing something, stop standing on the sidelines moaning and ranting.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 13:03

We aren't all equal....

If I earn 2 grand a year more than my neighbour what am I expected to do? Share out the difference?

Kaftankween · 07/05/2023 13:03

I agree with @RealLife101 The whole thing looked a bit ridiculous. Everyone looked uncomfortable apart from the Archbishop of Canterbury who was loving it. I feel pretty neutral about the monarchy and was looking forward to watching the coronation when I suddenly thought what a load of nonsense this is, part way through.
Other European nations with monarchies don’t have coronations. Time for a simple succession next time.

We obviously aren’t all equal. This will never happen.

That doesn’t bother me but you obviously do!

had to laugh when the news reporter was asking guys in a pub what they thought of the coronation and one young guy said what a waste of money when people like me are stuck in the middle of a cost of living crisis. Not that much of a crisis for him if he’s able to go out to the pub drinking!

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 13:04

Op you just sound bitter and jealous.

Really? You're comparing it to the corruption of power that happens in North Korea?! Give your head a real wobble.

Rather than compassionate for those who are struggling?

tailinthejam · 07/05/2023 13:05

You watched a different coronation from me then. One in which the central theme was of service, and bringing together peoples of all faiths and nationalities in peace and harmony.

crazeekat · 07/05/2023 13:05

If there is anything worse than the Royals it's the royalists, the ones who makes the pretend rules, bring outdated laws into place to put on show of wealth for all the commoners and peasants (which is ALL of us, no matter how hoity toity you think you are).
The ones who make Prince Harry sit on the third row with the Paedo Prince for daring to stick up for his wife and children and not abide by the rules for fear of upsetting the commoners.
What was different this time for the commoners? Tens of millions of pounds to watch the carriages come out, the horses get out, the outfits come out, ride around central London do a couple of waves and fuck off again? Same shite every single time. Oh but we got to see the crowns this time on a fake queen. Was really worth every penny. Not.
Wake up UK country is falling apart and they are sitting in their palaces and castles LAUGHING at us all.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 13:06

You don't sound compassionate for those who are struggling either!!!

AP5Diva · 07/05/2023 13:06

It was a big money maker for the Government, yes they had to stump up around £100m to do a Coronation but the royal actors were all free and the Government made profits of around £800m on the TV rights alone.

There isn’t any theft going on. The Tories made money off the backs of the RF and really it’s up to Parliament where that gets spent. Of course it is in their interest to make you think through smoke and mirrors there is no money for the desperately poor and to divert attention away from them to any scapegoat that is handy be it the RF or boats of refugees.

crazeekat · 07/05/2023 13:07

Highfivemum · 07/05/2023 12:04

We broke even on the costs with all the revenue brought in from TV rights etc. so didn’t cost us. Lots of business made to with all the coronation stuff sold. It also gave the U.K. something once to celebrate as let’s face it it has been a hard couple of years. We did the country proud. Love them or hate them it is a tradition and we have lost so many British values. Can’t loose another.

Highfivemum Can u explain what other values you are referring to?

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 13:08

As for the coronation....I only saw bits, but I believe Charles himself wanted to scale it all down going forwards, and he did manage to get 'them' to cut out chunks
