The Coronation disgusted me, bring down the monarchy

Coronation rant

Well I for one am absolutely disgusted at the coronation. It was the most blatant Display of the ‘haves’ flaunting what they have stolen from the ‘have nots’ I have ever seen.

First major theft

Between £100 million and £250 million cost of the coronation paid for by taxpayers

WTF!!! Who sanctioned that off? Do they not realise we have a cost of living crisis, many of their subjects are living below the breadline, can’t afford to heat their homes, can’t afford to buy the food their family needs, our country has been robbed and pillaged by the conservatives. And someone somewhere sanctioned upto £250 mil for a glorified party for the elite!!

Firstly, they should have paid for it themselves. Who pays for your child’s party? Or for your wedding? You and if you’re lucky, your family chip in. If someone told me the state would pay for my wedding for example, yes I might get a very expensive dress, I might have a free bar and some might see that as piss taking. But how about having hundreds of horses and guards paid to practice for months to put on an elaborate display in the streets? The security (yes they need a lot of security because their stealing from the people) all that money for what?? History, tradition? You can stick tradition where the sun doesn’t shine if it means that we the tax payers have far less for us for the next few years.

Can you imagine what would happen if that money was shared between the poorest 30% in this country? That would a country I would be proud to be part of, I am not proud of that disgusting coronation.

Second major theft

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The people invited are mainly elite and rich. So yet again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the rich use the poor peoples money to pay for all of the security to stop the poor from protesting against this blatant theft.

I disagree with a class system because it upholds the belief that we are not all equal. I am a huge fan of equality and I hate bullying, theft, and enforcement of class.

We need to find a peaceful way to end the royal family. It’s outdated and doesn’t represent our country.

End the monarchy now

And yes, I know there are other threads about this, we need to keep taking about it...

I did feel, watching yesterday, that it seemed incredibly outdated and silly. I didn’t feel that way about the Queen’s funeral. I felt like that was the fitting end to an era. But it should have stopped there.

I agree - the display of jewel and gold and other stolen riches was sickening, and I don’t think this family should be spending taxpayer’s money on this sort of ostentatious display,

I also couldn’t take it seriously. This very old man and his second wife from an affair going through this ridiculous rigmarole at their age. I would have had more respect for Charles of he’d have drawn a line in the sand after his mother’s death and scaled the institution and all of this ceremonial nonsense right back.

I could never stand there resplendent in gold and finery knowing so many people are going without. Disgusting

You’re in your warm house with your internet while people are going without. Get down from your high horse.

Yeah - just think …if we had a presidential system, we could be cheering a President we voted for…like Trump or Putin.

after seeing how a majority of this country could vote against their own best interests and vote Brexit, I’ll stick with a well educated, environmentalist who has shown he really cares about the causes close to him- none of which are making money, or getting more Twitter followers.

This!!! I totally agree.

berksandbeyond · 07/05/2023 12:42

It costs taxpayers what? £1 each? I’m fine with that. £1 for a bank holiday, some celebrations and a concert on telly tonight seems a good deal to me

wordsthreerandom · 07/05/2023 12:42

I loved it.

Made me proud to be British.

It was a glorious day.

Who's?

Sorry i was responding to the person who was telling you to f **k off

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:43

If King Charles is opening up Dumfries House, where will the money go? Back to the crown or to the tax payer? That's the question

Proud to be British? 😂

Do you have low standards in all areas of your life or just the royals?

Which bit made you proudest? I for one felt my heart swell watching one of Jimmy Saville's close pals be crowned. So touching 😳

I thought that you would already know this? It will go to the government like all Royal revenue from the Crown Estate which more than pays the sovereign grant.

abyssofwoah · 07/05/2023 12:47

Completely agree with you OP. Sadly I don’t think mumsnet is the place where the revolution will start though. The proportion of royalists on here seems pretty high. Completely at odds to what I see in my part of the country!

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 12:47

'Thai country'???

What are you talking about op??

MaisieDaisyMay · 07/05/2023 12:47

Sexisthairdressers · 07/05/2023 12:23

That's the good thing about republics. The people can choose their head of state. Unlike a monarchy. We'd get whoever people want.

@Sexisthairdressers

We get to elect our Govt. That's working out SO well, I can see why you want to elect a presidential team instead of the monarchy.

& the tourism ££ would just roll in to see them, bringing in so much money to the country...

there's a 📦 try thinking outside of it

And maybe if every person in the country got £1 spent on them from everyone else? But that doesn't happen does it? Because we're are mere mortals, and the royal family are special

I bloody loved it and would watch it all over again I couldn't believe it was live. The music the service the marching the Navy making there line narrower, the police escorting the crowds to the baloney it was truly amazing.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 12:48

@abyssofwoah which part of the country do you mean?

HelpMeGetThrough · 07/05/2023 12:48

Without A royal family, tourists could still visit the Crown Jewels

But in your rose tinted world, tourists wouldn't be able to do that, because, as you said:

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The police line has happened for years. It's a crowd control tactic.

We need to learn critical thinking, people only repeat parrot fashion what the media and newspapers tell them. When are we all going to think long and hard about what is happening to us? The elite are shafting us

I agree

connie26 · 07/05/2023 12:50

Proud to be British. Long live the King!

Worked out well for America didn’t it?

”down with the king, all hale president…. Mmm who shall we have? Sunak? Sugar? Branson? ?

Yeah. The people make much bettter choices. Rather the likes of Donald Trump than a king eh?

And how much money did the country gain from the coronation?

It didn't work out well for the USA, you're right. But that's not the system, it's the idiots who elected Trump.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 12:50

@chipswitheveryting

So what did you mean?? I know your type too,all talk and no action 😆

wordsthreerandom · 07/05/2023 12:51

@otherwayup

Oh now that's personal! 😄 ouch.

What a charmer you are.

I am very discerning and proud of my morals and standards thank you.

You just obviously don't like it that not everyone agrees with you.
