The Coronation disgusted me, bring down the monarchy

Coronation rant

Well I for one am absolutely disgusted at the coronation. It was the most blatant Display of the ‘haves’ flaunting what they have stolen from the ‘have nots’ I have ever seen.

First major theft

Between £100 million and £250 million cost of the coronation paid for by taxpayers

WTF!!! Who sanctioned that off? Do they not realise we have a cost of living crisis, many of their subjects are living below the breadline, can’t afford to heat their homes, can’t afford to buy the food their family needs, our country has been robbed and pillaged by the conservatives. And someone somewhere sanctioned upto £250 mil for a glorified party for the elite!!

Firstly, they should have paid for it themselves. Who pays for your child’s party? Or for your wedding? You and if you’re lucky, your family chip in. If someone told me the state would pay for my wedding for example, yes I might get a very expensive dress, I might have a free bar and some might see that as piss taking. But how about having hundreds of horses and guards paid to practice for months to put on an elaborate display in the streets? The security (yes they need a lot of security because their stealing from the people) all that money for what?? History, tradition? You can stick tradition where the sun doesn’t shine if it means that we the tax payers have far less for us for the next few years.

Can you imagine what would happen if that money was shared between the poorest 30% in this country? That would a country I would be proud to be part of, I am not proud of that disgusting coronation.

Second major theft

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The people invited are mainly elite and rich. So yet again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the rich use the poor peoples money to pay for all of the security to stop the poor from protesting against this blatant theft.

I disagree with a class system because it upholds the belief that we are not all equal. I am a huge fan of equality and I hate bullying, theft, and enforcement of class.

We need to find a peaceful way to end the royal family. It’s outdated and doesn’t represent our country.

End the monarchy now

And yes, I know there are other threads about this, we need to keep taking about it...

@wordsthreerandom me too every minute

A president would cost more. Just look at how much Mme Macron spent on flowers every month during the confinement during covid. Think it was about 250,000€.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 07/05/2023 14:34

I’m not a royalist, it seems they are intertwined with some people’s patriotic feelings. I used to feel like you and I still don’t like the bowing and scraping. No man is born better than another. I used to think that if there were a referendum on becoming a republic and ditching house Windsor I’d be in favour but now I’m not so sure. Presidencies tend to cost a fortune, presidents often come from privileged backgrounds but the thing which sways me most is that if you had that referendum today public opinion would favour keeping the royal family and I like to think I’m a democratic soul.
When I was 28 (I’ve just turned 60) I suddenly realised life was never going to be fair, I felt quite a bit more peaceful after that.

The cute crochet can defo stay (only cause it's cute) 😄

CordyLines · 07/05/2023 14:43

It should be remembered that an elected President would have a similar role to the King. S/he would not have any political power, just be a figurehead.

Many people think that a President of a Republic will be like those of the US and France etc. Nope, it doesn't have to be. Those Presidents wield great political power, but Presidents of other Republics such as Ireland do not.

Then there would be a more egalitarian and inexpensive Head of State.

But I don't see it happening, too many forces need a monarchy to maintain their own status.

We collectively find ways to bridge the gap, get a decent government in for a start, join together to revolt against elitism, we need to end the class system, snobbery, people looking down their noses at each other.

If you earn more than your neighbour, that's small beer compared to what's happening at the extremes, we all need to find ways to make this a more equal country. There are countries with a much smaller wealth divide, we should be aiming for that. Helping the vulnerable and disadvantaged and those 'haves' who flaunt their wealth rather than help others, they are the ones who should be ashamed.

People don’t want that and you can’t make them. They want the Tories and the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. They want to keep their money for themselves rather than it being given to what they see as the feckless and undeserving poor. That isn’t going to be changed by getting rid of the Royals and having President Boris.

The coronation, I realised yesterday, listening to it, is a trap. When all lords queued up to swear homage, it was a trap for them, They would go to hell if they broke their oath. No one does it now, and it didn't always work for them. See John. Who incidentally, called out the fyrd against the barons and the French, and the fyrd, who hadn't sworn, went to fight for him.
But it is also a trap for the king, and yesterday, for the queen. Stacked up oaths and regalia, all of which convey a "magical" meaning have locked him into a relationship with God represented by the Church. I don't know what Dunstan was doing when he wrote it, but I'll bet his tongs he meant the king to obey. Henry II found that out when he went barefoot to Canterbury. John challenged the Pope and held out for a year.
If Charles takes all that seriously, and he has talked as though he does, it is a heavy weight he has taken on.

clpsmum · 07/05/2023 15:11

I agree with you op and the boring ones for me are the phoney royalists

clpsmum · 07/05/2023 15:13

MsEmmelinePankhurst · 07/05/2023 12:06

I wholeheartedly agree OP.

People saying that the coronation made them feel proud to be British - WTF?? Proud of centuries of colonisation? Slavery? Abuse of power?

This.

Proud of the richest people in the country flaunting their wealth. Embarrassing at best

I watched Mirror Mirror on tv on Friday night, it's an updated version of Snow White. It depicts a wicked queen taking taxes from the poor to pay for her lavish parties.

Then I watched the coronation the next morning and thought, so it's still happening then.

AlNd we are allowing it.

I don't hate the royals as people, but I hate the principle of royalty. I used to be on the fence but upto £250 million while many of us are on our knees!!!

".. it's still happening then" - you do realise Snow White isn't a true story, don't you?!

This.

They’re nowhere near the richest. The Beckhams are richer. There are a few dozen richer families in the U.K.

AP5Diva · 07/05/2023 16:07

I just found out that Republic, the protesters sayinh “Not My King” and who want to abolish the monarch are literally a Limited Company! A company that turns a profit! Who knew that you could go into business protesting and make money off it! 🤣✌️

AP5Diva · 07/05/2023 16:09

LadyWithLapdog · 07/05/2023 13:42

Cough, cough, democracy. Have you seen yesterday’s arrests? Obviously not saying this is the end of things, or it’s Russia already, but don’t be so dismissive of other’s opinions.

Piffle. Only a handful of rabble rousers were arrested. 99.95% of protesters were unmolested and had a merry old day of LARPing as revolting peasants.

They're limited by guarantee - which means the shareholders don't take dividends etc. doesn't mean that the people running it can't pay themselves nice salaries of course Grin

It didn't work out well for the USA, you're right. But that's not the system, it's the idiots who elected Trump.

And you think the British public can be trusted erm Brexit, Tories

Very good point

@chipswitheveryting

Do give us a list of what was bought/made that you object to

Cherryblossoms85 · 07/05/2023 23:52

I found all the patriotism a bit much, but whatever, I like a bit of gold embroidery.

Anitazs · 08/05/2023 09:33

I agree.
100%
To have the RF so utterly deluded and out of touch is one thing - and shameful and embarrasing as that it - to then have the so called PM also so out of touch he didn't alert the King - who is already the King - to spending tax payers' money on pomp and pageantry at a time like this - is beyond baffling. The Stupid & The Stupider...
We have 3 million adults incl 1 million kids using food banks. A rocketing suicide rate that the PM keeps out of the media and he has even told the ONS not to publish their usual annual data on this...
It makes me feel sick to the stomach, the UK, right now..on every last level.

The patriotism was very minimal compared to the God-ishness

Cherryblossoms85 · 08/05/2023 17:19

@TheMarzipanDildo yeah but I guess it was only the same god bollocks as usual. I mean apart from the bit about divine rule obvs. Still, some gold!

Anitazs · 08/05/2023 22:07

Well done speaking up. Again. I can't believe anyone actually thinks making money on this - which doesn't go to starving kids and families on the breadline or OAP's who died of hypothermia - it goes to greddy TV companies' coffers - makes it OK.

They have more than enough cash as a family to fund it themselves - and it just goes to show not only is the PM completely stupidly out of touch ( at least we all know that much - even if the rocketing UK suicide rate is kept hidden out of the media ) - but that the monarchy is also beyond stupidity where reading the barometer of the country is concerned....

The only good news is that both monarchy and Tories will be forced now - to go/change/modernise with the times we live in

I see the news of the Tories losing even bluer than blue seats has hit worldwide news and incl the US; Washington Post observed that it was all over for them and their demise is now sealed...I don't know a single person in the village I live in who thought spending cash on a coronation for a man who manage to get a job aged 73 - handed down to him by his mum - was a healthy clever choice; quite the opposite. No one here celebrated it and its ill timed pomp and pageantry was risible to all....
