The Coronation disgusted me, bring down the monarchy

Coronation rant

Well I for one am absolutely disgusted at the coronation. It was the most blatant Display of the ‘haves’ flaunting what they have stolen from the ‘have nots’ I have ever seen.

First major theft

Between £100 million and £250 million cost of the coronation paid for by taxpayers

WTF!!! Who sanctioned that off? Do they not realise we have a cost of living crisis, many of their subjects are living below the breadline, can’t afford to heat their homes, can’t afford to buy the food their family needs, our country has been robbed and pillaged by the conservatives. And someone somewhere sanctioned upto £250 mil for a glorified party for the elite!!

Firstly, they should have paid for it themselves. Who pays for your child’s party? Or for your wedding? You and if you’re lucky, your family chip in. If someone told me the state would pay for my wedding for example, yes I might get a very expensive dress, I might have a free bar and some might see that as piss taking. But how about having hundreds of horses and guards paid to practice for months to put on an elaborate display in the streets? The security (yes they need a lot of security because their stealing from the people) all that money for what?? History, tradition? You can stick tradition where the sun doesn’t shine if it means that we the tax payers have far less for us for the next few years.

Can you imagine what would happen if that money was shared between the poorest 30% in this country? That would a country I would be proud to be part of, I am not proud of that disgusting coronation.

Second major theft

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The people invited are mainly elite and rich. So yet again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the rich use the poor peoples money to pay for all of the security to stop the poor from protesting against this blatant theft.

I disagree with a class system because it upholds the belief that we are not all equal. I am a huge fan of equality and I hate bullying, theft, and enforcement of class.

We need to find a peaceful way to end the royal family. It’s outdated and doesn’t represent our country.

End the monarchy now

And yes, I know there are other threads about this, we need to keep taking about it...

Totally agree op

MsEmmelinePankhurst · 07/05/2023 12:06

I wholeheartedly agree OP.

People saying that the coronation made them feel proud to be British - WTF?? Proud of centuries of colonisation? Slavery? Abuse of power?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 07/05/2023 12:06

It upholds a class system, we should all be aiming for equality

Not everyone will have the same amount of money. There will be richer and poorer people.

Candymay · 07/05/2023 12:06

I think it’s a bit more nuanced op.

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:04

I'm all right Jack, until your not, until the most elite have completely robbed you, but then it will be too late.

Eh? Lots and lots of people who spend their lives supporting people (I and all of my family work in public service roles, combination of nurses teachers and emergency services) and we all support and enjoy the monarchy.

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:08

I watched Mirror Mirror on tv on Friday night, it's an updated version of Snow White. It depicts a wicked queen taking taxes from the poor to pay for her lavish parties.

Then I watched the coronation the next morning and thought, so it's still happening then.

AlNd we are allowing it.

I don't hate the royals as people, but I hate the principle of royalty. I used to be on the fence but upto £250 million while many of us are on our knees!!!

I loved it myself. Fantastic for the country on the world stage and a huge boost for the economy.

Ilovedthe70s · 07/05/2023 12:09

All those persons, clergy, horses etc have to be paid anyway. That’s their job.

The military aren’t pay per event.

There never has been and never will be equality in this world.

However I enjoyed watching the coronation on TV. What a wonderful display boosting the economy with people travelling from all over the world to see this happening. The boost to tourism, pubs, hotels, restaurants in London will have been phenomenal.

You just have to look at how many people travelled to London, to The Mall, to Buckingham Palace to watch what was happening to know how much the royal family means to not just Britain but around the world.

Some people will always find things to moan about. This is our country like it or go elsewhere to live but I'm sure there is plenty to moan and complain about in every country.

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:11

So many countries watching would also have been disgusted, so many have been robbed from the Uk.

So many countries struggling with getting the basic needs, clean water, food for everyone, healthcare. If that money had been shared and given to where it's needed most, then I would have been proud.

I'm not proud of that disgusting coronation (major theft)

There were hardly any parties where I am not like the jubilee, people are much worse off now

Maybe they should look at the leaders of their countries.

The strong should help the weak, the wealthy should help the poor

Agree 100%, OP. The Windsors are the biggest benefit scroungers going. They need to be turfed out of our palaces and put on the WL for a council house. Hostel accommodation in the meantime.

I would be so ashamed in their position.

ScreamedTheLyrics · 07/05/2023 12:15

I’d be happy to see the end of the monarchy.

I did think I might enjoy the concert but the line up looks mostly like people that don’t interest me so I’m not hopeful.

Oh well. They’ll go quiet again after the weekend so will be easier to just ignore again.

Sexisthairdressers · 07/05/2023 12:15

Also, the address of anti-monarchy protesters yesterday was totally outrageous.

Littlegoth · 07/05/2023 12:16

I enjoyed it.

Did you not see the crowds? No Facebook posts of street parties and silly hats? It’s expected to generate about 8billion in income to the economy. 71 million of that in pubs. 350million to the hospitality sector. Extra consumer spending this weekend estimated at 1.67 billion. People flying in from all over the world.

Did you know people pay money to see the Crown Jewels? It’s always packed too. It’s about £30 a ticket to go into the Tower of London, and it attracts 3m visitors a year. Not checked the rest of the total attractions, but these generate jobs too. Royal Tourism generates about 1.7billion for the economy every year.

There are plenty of places I would start before I got to the Royal family. Google, Apple, EBay, Starbucks and Amazon for a start. I assume you boycott all of these as they are literally robbing the U.K. economy.

Thesharkradar · 07/05/2023 12:16

@chipswitheveryting
I'm with you it's a ghastly sickening obscenity
But it's also bread and circuses and it appears to work for a significant proportion of the population 🤷

NancyDrooo · 07/05/2023 12:16

Lol that this is in Crime.

It’s estimated that this weekend will bring £1-2billion revenue into the UK so it’s earned ten times more than it cost.

Let’s see what the popularity polls show in a few days.

MummyJ12 · 07/05/2023 12:16

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:02

Let me guess, you aren't using food banks and you aren't opting to not heat your home, therefore your critical thinking didn't need to go to those places?

The government are more to blame for this country being broken than our Royal family. The government that we as a nation elected. The Royal family conduct themselves much better than the clowns in Westminster IMO.
Get rid of the monarchy? No thanks. The majority of the country do not agree with you but you do you and crack on with your rants if it makes you feel better.

Littlegoth · 07/05/2023 12:17

I mentioned Facebook in my post - another company not paying the U.K. tax it should be.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 12:17

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:03

I agree with the teachers striking and the nhs striking and transport workers striking, our country has gone to the dogs, what have the royal family done to help?? Absolutely nothing

What's wrong with dogs?

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:17

Tradition is peer pressure from dead people, we need to rethink things, I don't want a king or a queen, I want a government with morals that looks after the most vulnerable (unlike the tories who enjoy playing the system and finding new ways to channel more and more money to the elite). I want equality for all humans.
