Coronation rant

Well I for one am absolutely disgusted at the coronation. It was the most blatant Display of the ‘haves’ flaunting what they have stolen from the ‘have nots’ I have ever seen.

First major theft

Between £100 million and £250 million cost of the coronation paid for by taxpayers

WTF!!! Who sanctioned that off? Do they not realise we have a cost of living crisis, many of their subjects are living below the breadline, can’t afford to heat their homes, can’t afford to buy the food their family needs, our country has been robbed and pillaged by the conservatives. And someone somewhere sanctioned upto £250 mil for a glorified party for the elite!!

Firstly, they should have paid for it themselves. Who pays for your child’s party? Or for your wedding? You and if you’re lucky, your family chip in. If someone told me the state would pay for my wedding for example, yes I might get a very expensive dress, I might have a free bar and some might see that as piss taking. But how about having hundreds of horses and guards paid to practice for months to put on an elaborate display in the streets? The security (yes they need a lot of security because their stealing from the people) all that money for what?? History, tradition? You can stick tradition where the sun doesn’t shine if it means that we the tax payers have far less for us for the next few years.

Can you imagine what would happen if that money was shared between the poorest 30% in this country? That would a country I would be proud to be part of, I am not proud of that disgusting coronation.

Second major theft

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The people invited are mainly elite and rich. So yet again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the rich use the poor peoples money to pay for all of the security to stop the poor from protesting against this blatant theft.

I disagree with a class system because it upholds the belief that we are not all equal. I am a huge fan of equality and I hate bullying, theft, and enforcement of class.

We need to find a peaceful way to end the royal family. It’s outdated and doesn’t represent our country.

End the monarchy now

And yes, I know there are other threads about this, we need to keep taking about it...

Where do you think the vast majority of the £250m was spent?

Yup, money paid to all the workers involved in the process. So you want to take that hard earned money from the pockets of the low paid police, soldiers, construction workers, catering staff, support workers et al? Shame on you.

Plus all the struggling hospitality businesses that had a bumper day yesterday looking after the thousands of tourists and visitors - you would deny them and their staff their incomes? Shame on you again.

This.

Ok, that's your opinion.

I loved it! I love seeing the country come together to celebrate. I love having something to make me feel proud of being British for once instead of feeling ashamed because of Brexit and having Boris on the world stage. I loved the tradition and feeling of being part of history.

Each to their own I guess.

Come together to celebrate? Chortle 😂
My (big) city had a big screen up in the centre to watch it, there was a hilarious photo of approximately 20 joyless looking people watching it in our local paper.
I don't know anyone who watched it and I personally was doing what I always do on a Saturday, helping at our local food bank. It was depressingly busy as ever.

Agree 100%, OP. The Windsors are the biggest benefit scroungers going. They need to be turfed out of our palaces and put on the WL for a council house. Hostel accommodation in the meantime.

I would be so ashamed in their position.

I think they may have one or two private properties where they could live to avoid hostel accommodation 🙄

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:33

We could have other events that also benefit the hospitality industry and other workers, but ones which don't hold one family above all others

It was marvellous. It was just a half day of the ceremonial aspect of a constitutional monarchy, which is how we maintain the stability of our head of state, rather than the electoral presidential mess or dictatorships that other countries endure. Read up on the Crown Estate before you bleat on about funding.

YouJustDoYou · 07/05/2023 12:34

"I hate everyone who has more than me, is richer than me, has a better house than me, is more famous than me" blah blah blah.

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:28

We need to fight against it wherever it happens, also with Facebook, Starbucks etc

Yes the government is hugely to blame.

I am also massively against our government, far more than I am with the royal family, however, we need to move towards equality by quietly and peacefully ending the royal family. By stoping the government from
Shafting is, from getting them to hold non domiciles to account

So what are you doing to fight against it?

Did you attend any demonstrations yesterday? Are you working within your local area to equal out disadvantage? Are you active within your local council to try to make changes? Are you doing anything at national level to work towards it?

Or are you just moaning on mumsnet?

Calm down dear.

Unless you're actually a man, well done for using such a lazy, misogynistic phrase.

You're clearly not sharp enough to think of anything smarter, so I just feel sorry for you mostly.

I’d be happy to see the end of the monarchy.

I did think I might enjoy the concert but the line up looks mostly like people that don’t interest me so I’m not hopeful.

Oh well. They’ll go quiet again after the weekend so will be easier to just ignore again.

The concert is the minority of acts that didn't say no to it.
Says it all really 😂😂

Hahahaha...I think you hit the nail on the head with this!

Wbeezer · 07/05/2023 12:36

Rage against the monarchy is a useful smokescreen for the like of the super rich and their cronies ( the Tory Government), oligarchs and media moguls like Rupert Murdoch. They are the real destroyers of people's quality of life and are happy to encourage us to point the finger at the Monarchy and let them take the blame. Rupert Murdoch is especially good at this.
Continuity is under rated IMO, revolutions rarely deliver on most promises. Lots of nice countries many people wish us to emulate have monarchies, there's no reason ours can't evolve in a similar way, I suspect it has already started to.
Be careful what you wish for and direct your anger where it really hurts the government and the super rich manipulators.

rwalker · 07/05/2023 12:36

It’s not that black and white

if the revenue it created was taken off the cost it would but substantial lower

the countries problems are caused by people at the bottom as well as the top

in my small circle
cousins daughter had child at 16 another at 19 be she like babies works the bare minimum to get max benefits

Lad at work wife’s lies to get max DLA

2 friends reduced hours to get UC

and another won’t go full time as only be £30 better off than part time and uc

all of the above impact massively on the public purse

not to mention the estimated 4.5 billion benefit fraud people commit

Financial waste in the NHS is astronomical and they also loose an estimated 5.7 billion in fraud

sort the above them I’d happily look and removing finance from the royals

CityCommuter · 07/05/2023 12:36

@chipswitheveryting shame on you for such a rant... I bet you're not disgusted with having a special bank holiday added for tomorrow though!

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:25

Without A royal family, tourists could still visit the Crown Jewels or visit the Tower of London, people could still pay to go around Buckingham palace. But we could open up all of the other royal residences too for a few and generate even more money.

I believe that King Charles is planning on opening up more royal residences to the public as he’s already done with Dumfries House.

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:37

For any of you asking what I am doing about it, trust me I am, I have a CIC which is social value focused. Not saying more as it will be outing.

Yeah - just think …if we had a presidential system, we could be cheering a President we voted for…like Trump or Putin.

after seeing how a majority of this country could vote against their own best interests and vote Brexit, I’ll stick with a well educated, environmentalist who has shown he really cares about the causes close to him- none of which are making money, or getting more Twitter followers.

MayBeeJuneSoon · 07/05/2023 12:38

I couldn't give a damn about an extra days holiday when there are so many people struggling to eat, struggling to heat, struggling to survive. I would give it up in a heartbeat if the money was channeled to the most deserving, I think anyone would, wouldn't you?

That's the good thing about republics. The people can choose their head of state. Unlike a monarchy. We'd get whoever people want.

Worked out well for America didn’t it?

”down with the king, all hale president…. Mmm who shall we have? Sunak? Sugar? Branson? ?

Yeah. The people make much bettter choices. Rather the likes of Donald Trump than a king eh?

And how much money did the country gain from the coronation?
