The Coronation disgusted me, bring down the monarchy

Coronation rant

Well I for one am absolutely disgusted at the coronation. It was the most blatant Display of the ‘haves’ flaunting what they have stolen from the ‘have nots’ I have ever seen.

First major theft

Between £100 million and £250 million cost of the coronation paid for by taxpayers

WTF!!! Who sanctioned that off? Do they not realise we have a cost of living crisis, many of their subjects are living below the breadline, can’t afford to heat their homes, can’t afford to buy the food their family needs, our country has been robbed and pillaged by the conservatives. And someone somewhere sanctioned upto £250 mil for a glorified party for the elite!!

Firstly, they should have paid for it themselves. Who pays for your child’s party? Or for your wedding? You and if you’re lucky, your family chip in. If someone told me the state would pay for my wedding for example, yes I might get a very expensive dress, I might have a free bar and some might see that as piss taking. But how about having hundreds of horses and guards paid to practice for months to put on an elaborate display in the streets? The security (yes they need a lot of security because their stealing from the people) all that money for what?? History, tradition? You can stick tradition where the sun doesn’t shine if it means that we the tax payers have far less for us for the next few years.

Can you imagine what would happen if that money was shared between the poorest 30% in this country? That would a country I would be proud to be part of, I am not proud of that disgusting coronation.

Second major theft

All the robes and jewels and wealth displayed which reflects the brutal thievery from other countries, from the commonwealth, which they have amassed and kept over the years. Can you imagine if those things were sold and the proceeds given to those who need it most? That is a country I would be proud of.

The people invited are mainly elite and rich. So yet again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And the rich use the poor peoples money to pay for all of the security to stop the poor from protesting against this blatant theft.

I disagree with a class system because it upholds the belief that we are not all equal. I am a huge fan of equality and I hate bullying, theft, and enforcement of class.

We need to find a peaceful way to end the royal family. It’s outdated and doesn’t represent our country.

End the monarchy now

And yes, I know there are other threads about this, we need to keep taking about it...

There were hardly any parties where I am not like the jubilee, people are much worse off now

Move then?

The strong should help the weak, the wealthy should help the poor

Who are YOU helping today then?

Tradition is peer pressure from dead people, we need to rethink things, I don't want a king or a queen, I want a government with morals that looks after the most vulnerable (unlike the tories who enjoy playing the system and finding new ways to channel more and more money to the elite). I want equality for all humans.

And I'm happy with a king and queen.

NillyNoMates · 07/05/2023 12:19

I completely agree with you, OP. It is sickening.

Unnecessarily rude. Reported.

Where do you think the vast majority of the £250m was spent?

Yup, money paid to all the workers involved in the process. So you want to take that hard earned money from the pockets of the low paid police, soldiers, construction workers, catering staff, support workers et al? Shame on you.

Plus all the struggling hospitality businesses that had a bumper day yesterday looking after the thousands of tourists and visitors - you would deny them and their staff their incomes? Shame on you again.

We need a revolt

Presumably you would like a Republic? Who would you like as President?

CwmYoy · 07/05/2023 12:21

Don't be silly.

chipswitheveryting · 07/05/2023 12:22

I could never stand there resplendent in gold and finery knowing so many people are going without. Disgusting

And you think this doesn't happen in republics?

Personally, I think a constitutional monarchy is probably the least worst option for a democratic system.

That's the good thing about republics. The people can choose their head of state. Unlike a monarchy. We'd get whoever people want.

OneFrenchEgg · 07/05/2023 12:23

It's a bit mad, people looking up to and admiring these other people because they married someone posh or they were born to the monarch.
All the adoration for people who have loads of cash and time to scrub up nicely, and drag their kids out to hold up to the masses.
I'd find it too humiliating to go and wait six hours to shake a hand etc.
I like it when they just get on with it quietly and I can pretend they don't exist, otherwise I get furious about random things like Kate's blusher or Anne's stupid hat, or William in a stupid cloaks popping up all over social media.

Yep, this. It's so shameful.

FoodCentre · 07/05/2023 12:23

The coach wasn't made just for the occasion, it already existed. Don't see the big deal.

The money went into paying everyone involved and has given businesses lots of footfall

Littlegoth · 07/05/2023 12:16

I enjoyed it.

Did you not see the crowds? No Facebook posts of street parties and silly hats? It’s expected to generate about 8billion in income to the economy. 71 million of that in pubs. 350million to the hospitality sector. Extra consumer spending this weekend estimated at 1.67 billion. People flying in from all over the world.

Did you know people pay money to see the Crown Jewels? It’s always packed too. It’s about £30 a ticket to go into the Tower of London, and it attracts 3m visitors a year. Not checked the rest of the total attractions, but these generate jobs too. Royal Tourism generates about 1.7billion for the economy every year.

There are plenty of places I would start before I got to the Royal family. Google, Apple, EBay, Starbucks and Amazon for a start. I assume you boycott all of these as they are literally robbing the U.K. economy.

Without A royal family, tourists could still visit the Crown Jewels or visit the Tower of London, people could still pay to go around Buckingham palace. But we could open up all of the other royal residences too for a few and generate even more money.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 07/05/2023 12:26

Ultimately all the decisions about the coronation and the COL crisis are made by the democratically elected government. So given the country keeps voting for twats, and indeed no one voted for our last 2 PMs to be in the role, remind me again how a republic will be an improvement?

I’m ambivalent about the monarchy and I totally see the Republican angle but perhaps we can stop voting for arseholes who spend money on themselves and their mates when we do get a chance to vote and I might be more on board

Exactly. Many tourists visit Paris.

We need to fight against it wherever it happens, also with Facebook, Starbucks etc

Yes the government is hugely to blame.

I am also massively against our government, far more than I am with the royal family, however, we need to move towards equality by quietly and peacefully ending the royal family. By stoping the government from
Shafting is, from getting them to hold non domiciles to account

Exactly. Many tourists visit Paris.

Paris generally has much better weather. And being part of mainland Europe, the travel links are easier if you're doing a longer trip. London has neither of those things to offer. People underestimate how much of a draw the royals are to tourists.

Yea the truth is, the tories are the worst we've ever seen. This government don't even hide they're blatant disregard to the plebs.

I'd love to swap a boat load of asylum seekers for a boat load of tories any day of the week. We should try to set that up.
