Smoking weed

Ok..... I smoke marijuana, never around my kids but when they are in bed. I've been invited to stay at families house before with my 2 children (4 and 5 now) and it's always been a bit of a military operation if I want to smoke on an evening. My family drink and I don't, so whilst they unwind with a few drinks I like to have a smoke. Do you think they would understand this considering I don't drink, one family member used to smoke weed, and they all know why I can't drink. Am I being out of order expecting my 30 something family members will understand.... or do I just keep hiding it with e tea string mints and bad Avon perfume??

If you need it to unwind (to the point where you smoke it in secret rather than just go without for a night or two) you have just as much of a problem as people who 'need' a drink to unwind.

Got it in one. I think the legality point is secondary in your circumstances.

This thread is going round in circles, and the same old arguments are being spouted so I won't repeat them.

Have you considered that the neighbours might not be amused at the smell of you smoking weed and might report you, and therefore get your family into trouble?

whothefudge · 03/08/2017 08:45

My neighbours aren't a problem, my garden in very private and secluded. If they were going to report me they would have done it by now.

whothefudge · 03/08/2017 08:48

The equipment to set up your own grow isn't cheap, but I have considered it. Especially since finding out the police aren't interested in anyone growing it for their own consumption, and will only crack down on weed if it brings with it anti-social behaviour problems.

PersianCatLady · 03/08/2017 11:03

What are you doubting.. That they take 8 weeks to grow, or that a plant will be worth £1,000 ?
I am not doubting anything.

I know from experience that the figures you are quoting aren't reality for small home growers, they might be true for commercial growing operations but you would only get those sort of returns when you are growing with lights.

As for just putting a seed in pot and watching it grow without doing anything else, you are very much mistaken.

Not mistaken at all
The figures you are using are the sort that the police use to assess "street value", they are not the same as how much money you actually make.

For example, it is quite common for the police to quote that a kilo of cocaine has a street value of £200,000.

To get this figure they take into account the fact that it will be cut with adulterants and then they calculate it as if the entire kilo is sold by the gram.

Therefore giving a price per gram of around £200 (£200 x 1000 = £200,000).

So while this makes police seizures sound great, the actual price of a kilo of cocaine in the UK is around £25,000 - £40,000.

Wolfiefan definitely needs to chill.

PersianCatLady · 05/08/2017 00:43

I always get the impression that those very much opposed would benefit the most
That is because it is your answer to everything.

Pissed off - smoke a joint
Bad day - smoke a joint
Someone was mean to you - smoke a joint

And as for "benefiting" from smoking weed, do me a favour, I used to smoke it all the time when I was a teenager... and then I grew up.

Do you always falsely imagine you know the behaviour and motivations of people you don't know ?
Tell me then - why do you decide to smoke illegal drugs every evening when your kids are upstairs in bed??

madentitlement · 05/08/2017 15:26

Suck lemons much?! Hmm

madentitlement · 05/08/2017 15:27

If it wasn't illegal I would agree with you thegoodname, but I am uncomfortable with the idea of taking illegal (and therefore unregulated) drugs.

thegoodnameshadgone · 05/08/2017 16:38

It's illegal in the U.K. For tax reasons

People break the law everyday. Speeding a bit for instance.

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 16:41

Breaking 1 law does not mean it is ok to break another. Do you think it is ok to speed? Or do you just pick and choose which laws are ok to break.....like criminals do?

thegoodnameshadgone · 05/08/2017 16:44

Ok so all of the people stating it's wrong because it's illegal.

What about the legal highs that people
Smoke where the effects are much stronger and have killed people or induced serious mental issues after smoking. Are these ok then because they are legal? Would it be better for op to smoke these because they are legal? Rather than a natural substance.

A natural substance that is used for some people medicinally.
