Smoking weed

Ok..... I smoke marijuana, never around my kids but when they are in bed. I've been invited to stay at families house before with my 2 children (4 and 5 now) and it's always been a bit of a military operation if I want to smoke on an evening. My family drink and I don't, so whilst they unwind with a few drinks I like to have a smoke. Do you think they would understand this considering I don't drink, one family member used to smoke weed, and they all know why I can't drink. Am I being out of order expecting my 30 something family members will understand.... or do I just keep hiding it with e tea string mints and bad Avon perfume??

It's legal where I live. The laws are like with booze; 21, not on the streets, no driving, etc.

I'd rather be around someone who is stoned than someone who is drunk. I'd rather be stoned myself than be drunk. As it is I drink little and smoke even less. I've seen more alcoholics in my life than weed addicts, neither one is any better (or worse) than the other, IMO.

The illegality is an issue OP. It's not right to ask someone if it's OK to do an illegal activity on their property. So as far as that, no you shouldn't simply go outside and smoke weed in the back garden. If it were legal, like it is here, then it's a different story. Then it would be just the same as a tobacco smoker asking to have a smoke on the porch. It's a simple courtesy because one is doing a 'stinky' activity that may impact others.

The same applies to drinkers at a teetotalers' home. You respect their rules. If you must drink, you do down the road to the pub. But if you can't do without weed or booze for a night (or a weekend) then perhaps you should ask yourself why.

Think of the children indeed, Wolfie.

Terrible for children to understand the shades and nuances about the world around them. Perhaps not every single thing or choices you male can be defined as 100% celestial purity or poison.

I am not surprised bossadad's perfectly clear and logical point has sailed over the heads of the "illegal drugs are never ok " lot.
I think many people would get a surprise if they knew that doctors, lawyers, teachers, post women, in fact pretty much every group inaginable sometimes partake of a spliff, nightly or whatever.
Point about psychosis... makes ne cross when people say alcohol/drugs are ylthe caysr of his problem. Existing menraly heLth conditiobs or teauma arecthe causr
The drug is a way of self medicating. I don't know if my point is clear enough for all though.
Secondly, some people find tbat my inhaling/digesting mj helps tnem. Many medical professionals are pretty cluef up on the benifits of this. Please see Dr David Nutt.
A spliff at night is the same as me taking ny tramadol. In fact the spliff negates the tramadol and if pure enough has far less side effects.
I coluld continue but I cba ☺

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 02/08/2017 20:32

Fuck. My phone rebelled. That garbled nonsense should read Pre existing menral health issues/trauma are the cause of addictons.
All this is making ne want to spark up and watch Clerks.
If your friend needed medical sipplies to save her life would you or would you not break into tbe closed pharmacy. Would it stop you beause it's illegal. Od coyrse not comoarable but the point remains valid nonetheless. You can and should break laws sometimes. They're not so black and white. I guess it takes a sophisticated level of thinking to see the shades of grey.

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 20:34

Hoof are you stoned because that post was all over the shop Wink

Its the illegal activity behind cannabis that makes me judge.
Smokers will kid themselves that the local dealer grows it in his mums loft and nobody gets hurt. Thats only 1 step in the long chain of drug suppliers.

During prohabition the mafia supplied the illegal alcohol......not know for their non violent criminal acts were they?

whothefudge · 02/08/2017 20:39

Wolfie you've been rude since you started, please do keep to your word.

whothefudge · 02/08/2017 20:40

I'm glad my family don't normalise being a twat.... different strokes hey? Hmm

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/08/2017 20:40

Weed is sold by dealers. You have no idea exactly what you are buying. It can cause MH issues. I can buy properly labelled alcohol from the supermarket. I know exactly what I am drinking

Wouldnt it make more sense to legalise it then? Regulated as with alcohol price reflecting strength and the monies going to the exchequer instead of funding more crime

It won't cause psychosis.

There has been no demonstrable evidence that cannabis leads to psychosis. The 1 report that claimed this was discredited not long after it was published. While cannabis use has increased in the UK rates of psychotic illness has not and has remained at a fairly level rate.

If you really can't see any difference you need to do some research of your own.

Oh the irony

whothefudge · 02/08/2017 20:42

And tbh I think people fail to realise that drugs, and using them to deal with an ongoing mental health issue is going to heighten not help.... doesn't mean everyone who smokes weed recreationally is going to develop mh issues Hmm

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 02/08/2017 21:28

cosmicpineapple great name. It reminds me of Shpongle songs Grin

Not so much stoned as brain faster than fingers and crappy phone screen.

I completely agree with your as regards the provenance. As some as mentioned legalisation would involve quality control. Also the idea that another human had to traffic drugs makes me feel Ill., although the chains of supply differ from drug to drug.

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 21:35

I wanted CosmicFlamingo but apparently that username was taken when I registered Grin

I do think it should be legalised and taxed. It would reduce the extra crime associated with drug running I would hope.

Thing with the OP is that she feels unable to go a few days without it. Thats a worry as it would be if she changed weed to wine.

Also its the asking/telling family as it puts them in the position of agreeing that its ok to break the law.

You made perfect sense
Thank You.

If it was legalised and taxed then it would cost so much more than it does now.

I don't see how crime would fall when people would have to find more money to buy it.

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 22:19

I was thinking more along the crimes associated with the drug production.

Booze and cigs are expensive and heavly taxed and people steal them or steal to buy them. Yet they are still legal.

YNK · 02/08/2017 22:25

What a lot of nonsense on this thread which highlights why drug laws need to change. They really should have listened to Professor Nutt.

I think the OP is best placed to know how open minded her relatives/friends are and to decide if she really wants to open a talking point around it, because unless she opts to quietly consume edibles, weed does stink. You have to also consider if neighbours might catch a whiff too, or if one of the children catch a whiff on the way to the loo through an open window.

Personally, I would opt for edibles, since it would detract from a relaxing experience for me if it became a curiosity for the people in my company, even if they didn't disapprove.

Boss are you forgetting the immense amount of light needed to cultivate it properly? Electricity is not free and cannabis does not grow well with the UKs poor sunlight/summers.

CosmicPineapple · 02/08/2017 23:19

And our summer's aren't so bad.

Its pissed it down 3 days straight here Grin

To legalise and tax it the goverment would expect it to be produced in a factory setting iyswim not ya mams back bedroom Wink. Growing your own and selling it to the street would still be illegal. Just like you cannot sell homebrew but you can have it for personel use.

Seems the giant rubharb in my garden likes the mixed weather too. I don't even like the stuff but i keep putting sorting it out off.
I would happily swap rubharb for berries?

**Disclaimer this is not a drug deal Grin

PersianCatLady · 02/08/2017 23:43

Haha Bossa if only
Absolutely, £20k every 8 weeks from 20 plants, it took me five minutes to stop laughing.
