Smoking weed

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 27/07/2017 20:32

Ok..... I smoke marijuana, never around my kids but when they are in bed. I've been invited to stay at families house before with my 2 children (4 and 5 now) and it's always been a bit of a military operation if I want to smoke on an evening. My family drink and I don't, so whilst they unwind with a few drinks I like to have a smoke. Do you think they would understand this considering I don't drink, one family member used to smoke weed, and they all know why I can't drink. Am I being out of order expecting my 30 something family members will understand.... or do I just keep hiding it with e tea string mints and bad Avon perfume??

You may have been "assessed" but that doesn't mean it's legal or acceptable. Be careful.
I feel sorry for any children who are growing up in an environment where people drink to excess or take illegal drugs. It is damaging. It isn't cool and it could lead to serious problems.
But you clearly have weed as your priority. I'm out.

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 28/07/2017 16:23

Haha nice try wolfiefan but I'm not getting sucked into it. Good effort at trying to make me feel like shit though.... especially bringing my kids into it. Save your pity for your own kids, they'll need it with such an uptight person in their lives.

Just bake some brownies?

But I think your idea of talking to your family is a good one, if they're chilled, as you say, I bet it won't be a big deal Smile

QuiteLikely5 · 28/07/2017 16:37

Op

Taking illegal substances when you are a parent can never be a good thing. You've also said SS have been involved due to it. Was it a neighbour who reported you?

You could seek out therapy or medication to treat your anxiety?

If you don't then you are projecting your anxiety onto your kids anyway (assuming you don't smoke during the day)

The majority in here will never agree with you.

Migraleve · 28/07/2017 16:54

Migraleve you really do sound like you would benefit from some kind of relaxant. Or just wiggling the stick lodged permanently in your bottom might help.

Do you think you are clever? Or funny? Or better than me?

Do fuck off.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 28/07/2017 19:13

Do you think you are clever? Or funny? Or better than me?

Oh, I think it went further up Grin

CosmicPineapple · 28/07/2017 21:50

Nobody is trying to make you feel like shit.

I fuck up as a parent at least 3 times a day.
I shout when i should not.
I give out punishments i dont keep.
I threaten the bogie man.
I give them my phone to play with so i can close my eyes for 10 minutes.

I do not smoke drugs.
I manage to be a shit parent without drugs because its ILLEGAL.
I may not be a great parent but fuck me i can teach them the basics. Against the law is a no. You do not get to pick and choose.

PersianCatLady · 28/07/2017 21:53

Persian cat lady I could ask you the same question when you drink
What a presumptuous reply, assuming that I must drink because you smoke dope.

FYI I don't drink so that blows your argument out of the water.

Also alcohol is legal, cannabis isn't.

I don't think that anybody would be shocked by a parent having had a few drinks and turning up at A & E with a sick child (in a taxi).

I am not sure that the same would be said about a parent who was stoned and reeked of dope.

PersianCatLady · 28/07/2017 21:58

I can manage without either, I'm not dependant on anything
Prove it, make the last joint you smoked the last one you ever smoke.

I bet you will reply with 100 reasons why you can't do that.

Branleuse · 28/07/2017 22:01

to all the people that say they would NEVER smoke weed because its illegal.... NOONE CARES. NOONE IS ASKING YOU TO

PersianCatLady · 28/07/2017 22:01

maybe I've smoked too much weed and it's made me all paranoid!
I thought you smoked weed to help you with your MH issues??

serialtester · 28/07/2017 22:03

I have substance abuse issues (check my posts!) but even I would refrain from.smoking a doobie at a big family gathering. On occasion you have to just suck it up (not literally though!) and be sensible.

Branleuse · 29/07/2017 08:09

I get a bit worried if im going to be staying somewhere where im not going to be able to smoke. Does this mean ive got a problem? - of course, but my problem is with anxiety and sleeping, which pre-dates everything. I get worried because it means ill have to rely on sleeping tablets or valium, which give me much more side effects and a next day comedown.

But you're not comparing like for like
My Aunt works in a busy ED department.

Someone who has had a few drinks and turns up with a child - they think nothing.

If a parent smells of weed, whether wasted or has just had a joint or two - raises eyebrows and often enquiries are made regarding the children.

But you're not comparing like for like
In the eyes of the law, they aren't alike - one is illegal and the other isn't.

It just shows your prejudices
They are not my prejudices.

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2017 13:57

Persian didn't say drunk. Said a few drinks.
A parent turning up at A & E having had a glass of wine or a lager isn't the same.
Whatever you think of the laws regarding cannabis, it isn't legal. Somebody smelling of illegal drugs isn't the same. It really isn't.

PersianCatLady · 02/08/2017 14:16

Thank you, for a minute I thought that I wasn't making any sense.

user1492692527 · 02/08/2017 14:28

A neighbour of mine smokes week outside his house. It absolutely stinks and smells all through my house if I have doors open, as I have had in the recent warm weather. So much more cloying than cigarette smoke which I also find quite offensive but doesn't hang around like weed does.

Why would you subject your family to this?

picklemepopcorn · 02/08/2017 14:54

With regard to the original enquiry, strictly speaking it's illegal to allow people to smoke weed in your house. So that would be a no from me.

As for smoking when in charge of your children, the children of families who smoke tobacco often smell- the clothes, book bag, everything. You have to work really hard to stop that happening- never smoke in the house or the car, even when they aren't present.

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2017 15:29

@PersianCatLady
You made perfect sense. I think those of us who think weed is illegal and so we shouldn't be smoking it will never agree with those who think it's fine for parents to smoke dope. Hmm

talonofthehawk · 02/08/2017 15:38

So...you're a dope addict wanting advice on how to hide your addiction at a family event?
