Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

I still don’t understand why she thinks constantly telling us how hot her flat is and reminding us you can’t leave the windows open at night as it’s ground (maybe upper ground) floor is a good advert for her property but hey

Thought I’d check up on Bitemesausage to see what’s what, but it looks like his twitter account has been suspended. Hope he’s OK. Hope there’s not some sort of roadside sausage-selling wars going on over there in Colorado Springs, like the Glasgow Ice Cream wars of the 80’s. And that he’s not been trading sausage-based hate tweets with Chip the Chipolata or Nina the Wiener from the next layby down, resulting in his Twitter suspension.

Seriously, should we be worried that a Brattie-selling competitor has blown the ‘Wall’s’ off Bitemesausage’s trailer by sticking a lit Porkinson Banger underneath it?

Yet another concern to add to my list that I am not going to discuss with the staff at my local corner shop …….

Of course, weather in Venice is so different to weather anywhere else. It’s exciting and unique in Venice, whereas, elsewhere, it’s a bloody nightmare. Her opinions on “poor”people and backstreets are the same.

Thank you so much @Beanchops . You are right. We are all about the support on here. It was impacting my Sunday, worrying whether one of Bitemesausage’s adversaries had shoved a Jolly Hog Proper Porker up his exhaust as part of some awful turf war. It was making me a bit out of sorts tbf.

You’ve set my mind at rest, and I can now enjoy the rest of my bank holiday weekend ……. Women supporting women supporting sausage sellers indeed! If that's not a force for good, I don't know what is.

Actually, thinking about it, it's women supporting women who support sausage sellers who support women. It's just one big circle of support on here. MN should be proud of us.

The accent. The ‘work wardrobe’. The converse are back. ‘Kitten heels’ not needed for five star hotels in Venezia. Manky bikini got an outing too. Why have a ‘work’meeting if you can’t throw in a few thirst shots from a jacuzzi?

Good grief, who is this all FOR?? What is she trying to prove and to who? So tiring.

If Mike is following any ex on SM it has to be his ex wife. She’s just divine. Mentally, physically and emotionally fit, beautiful and wholesome. Her insta is glorious testimony to the strength of women. She makes Liz look old, festered and past it.

@JemimaTab Who is it all for? I think mostly Mike, the guy who dared to leave.

It’s been said on here before but again, Marriott is a huge hotel brand across the world who will have agencies and comma people etc etc coming out of their ears. How can you go to a lunch meeting (having never mentioned them before so doesn’t sound like there’s a history) and then be working for them? Or is this like the Salzburg ‘job’ which has vanished off her bio in the space of a week?

I really do think, as others have said, she is very unwell and these fevered posts are getting more and more indicative of that. And as others have said, who is this for? All the energy used on social could be much better used on work or child and she’d probably be so much happier for it too

Personally I find most people are friendly. Sometimes people are having a bad day, but honestly most people I meet, especially those in hotels who are paid to be nice to me are friendly. Although there was one hotel receptionist in Berlin on 2017 who was not friendly....but he gave us an upgrade "because we have no other rooms available" so I'll let him off.

All this fevered pretend work stuff will no doubt have its origins in Mike holding down a reasonable job with a reasonable title for a reasonable length of time. Maybe a comment was made about Ms Fraser’s lack of employment in spite of her education, so to show him who’s boss she is zigzagging around Europe, blagging her way into hotels and giving herself random job titles one day, only to be deleted the next.

Until she produces anything obvious like a review in a respected publication, is listed on the employee list for any of the hotels, or even tags into her SM posts any of the ingratiating thanks to the Andreas and Allessandros with who she is on first name terms, I think we can add this to the Headcase, Wedgie Press, Smashing the face of Podcasts etc etc irrelevancy.

And @Umbrellaisback – nothing wrong with comma people. I’m particularly fond of the old comma myself! 😂

Where are her parents/friends/family/mental health support worker? She is evidently very unwell. To be in charge of a small child at this point seems very concerning.

Just like the Salzburg people who (apparently, ahem) took her out to lunch in Soho last week, after offering her a job at their hotel in Austria.

@Raffington55 Yes. It is all very puzzling. It's a fool's errand trying to pin down the precise motive for the latest manic escapades, and it's very obvious that all actions lead back to Mike somehow. But I think maybe there was some attempt by Mike to discourage her from going abroad with the child all the time, so she's had to manufacture some mega career so she can tell the courts she 'has to' travel, 'for work'. So sad choosing to make your every move in relation to garnering attention from an unworthy ex. Impressing him. Annoying him. Detrimentally affecting his relationship with his child. She just cannot seem to move on and put the child's needs first.

Mike evidently had the strength of character to get clean and move on, but those Fraser genes seemingly prevent Liz from moving on from the past.
