Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

RhinoRhino · 25/06/2023 12:13

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

If she is on medication how on earth does she drink so much alcohol? I know when on anti depressants you are not to touch it and these surely would be similar?
But do not understand why anyone would post all of those videos. It’s not healthy to wallow in this surely?

She's just desperate for attention. Any attention. What a load of childish drama around taking a stupid bloody tablet. How immature.

Tortiemiaw · 19/08/2023 20:03

It's mad on two levels. Firstly that she actually did that a year ago, and secondly that she's showing it again. I may do an annual update on my medication. I'll cry a lot and then remind everyone how HAPPY I AM now and then cycle to Germany and get a job.
Sorted

LynetteScavo · 19/08/2023 23:13

She's posted today that she doesn't actually drink the alcohol.

That’s a beautiful hotel (I have also just been in salzburg) they have a very professional looking team

They may be PROFESSIONAL looking but I bet their collarbones don't stick out!

There's her dreadful punctuation again - why on earth does she call herself a writer I wonder.

This is all wind up nonsense isn’t it?

I know things have changed but 25 odd years ago I worked in another European country for my employer and they had to prove to the unions that there was no other person from that country who could do the job (it was a bit niche and someone could have done it with training eventually and I was only going for 12 months during which time I did train someone up…). But that’s just one of the hurdles that has to be dealt with applying for jobs (and I’m sure things have changed massively now with DBS clearances, right to work, reference checking, SOCIAL MEDIA and personal reviewing, etc.). She literally has no clue how recruitment or HR works. Drinks in a bar DOES NOT EQUAL a professional job interview/ presentation/ CV /portfolio as @RhinoRhino says.

She wouldn’t get through the initial sift of meeting ”essential criteria” of the advertised role where I currently work.

And as for the constant Twitter bio updates 🙄🙄🙄. Immature narcissistic compulsive lying red flags right there.

Shortbread49 · 20/08/2023 07:24

So she orders a glass of champagne to take a photo of it for Instagram but not drink that is seriously weird she must have more money than sense (donated by other people)

RhinoRhino · 20/08/2023 08:33

Maybe Ms Fraser hoping the new 'employers' will treat her product in similar fashion to her alleged habit of ordering drinks but not drinking them, eg the swanky hotels will commission 'work', but never do anything with it.

That would work for Ms Fraser.

And once the blank white pages of Wedgie Press's offerings are on the shelves of Missing Fiction it will be as well if the customers do not actually try and read the contents. Just buy the books, damn you. Don't try to READ them. That would just spoil everything!

And the potential clients of Headcase will sign up to the platform but then never look at it, and thus never find out that there are no instructions on how to make their mental health issues 'beautiful'.

Oooh, there's quite the pattern here. A brand new way of working. Or should that be 'working'?

Maybe next week when I go to work I will tell my line manager that I have produced the required reports and that he can have them, but ask him not to read or action them. See how that goes.

Yes, I wonder what her future employer (ahem) will think of these wailing videos about her past and about her medication - not to mention all the hundreds of thirst shots - on her Instagram page. It's very common these days for employers to check out your social media. I expect their hearts would sink (if they had offered her a job at all).

Raffington55 · 20/08/2023 09:28

Just to be clear: I'm not being critical of someone taking medication in that last post. I take an SSRI myself, sertraline, 150mg daily - happy to name drug and dose, Liz. On that note, I find the film of LF taking her medication a year ago completely obnoxious as she's just reminding us all that she STILL hasn't told us what medication she takes (if any) - and MANY people asked her, I believe. How mean. Goading everyone a second time around.

Tortiemiaw · 20/08/2023 10:37

I'm devastated for her. Her 12k run this morning was SO BAD due to all the travelling and sitting on planes, trains, cable cars and boats. I honestly thought I had problems but they just pale into insignificance..

Isn't it funny that her "fitness is really low" and yet she tried to make us believe that she swam 50 lengths of a 50m pool the other day. 🤥🤥

CambridgeBuns · 20/08/2023 13:36

She claims to be such a proponent of women, yet not a mention of the recent successes of the England women’s netball and football teams both reaching World Cup finals this month.

Or of the attendance of Lucy Fraser, Secretary of State for culture, media and sport attending these, further elevating women and demonstrating what can be done, not simply posting to a diminished social media audience, an audience that is mostly men who follow seemingly multiple vulnerable women.

These sports teams and government ministers are driving change. Not Liz Fraser. None of them need to post their legs on a trampoline to get attention. They earn attention. This is why Liz will never mention them.

With her young daughter, she was very excitedly following the men’s football World Cup last summer, but not the women’s this summer, despite being in at least three of the competing countries while it was being played.

Liz Fraser loves men, not women. Rather than lift up women, she batters them down. In none of her recent “employment successes” has she mentioned the women who have interviewed them or hold senior positions in these organisations.

In the most recent “hiring” hotel, at least one of the meetings she claims to have had must have been with the director of marketing and business development, a woman.

Liz is the most likely woman I know to have a workplace affair. She has no boundaries or morals where is comes to adoration from men. I imagine she is unable to work with women.

And parenting. She’s blamed part time parenting for her lack of fitness 😂

She should just wait until she’s working full time too. Three jobs, plus her other “commitments” surely can’t fit into two 30 minute work stints a week? 😝

Umbrellaisback · 20/08/2023 14:37

I wonder how it is empowering and lifting up women, especially vulnerable women, to continually promote everything synonymous with an ED. Barely any food. Drink that we now know is a sip and discard. And an exercise regime that’s obsessive at best. A 12km run this morning followed by the gym this afternoon. None of this is a healthy way to live and that’s before we get into any of the rest. It seems to be glorifying a hugely unhealthy way of life (look at me, my skinny legs, my bong chest) and that’s irresponsible at best and certainly not helping any women at all

Umbrellaisback · 20/08/2023 15:07

Bong = bony

Umbrellaisback · 21/08/2023 07:41

A long run followed by a gym session followed by a swim followed by another run and more gym in the space of just over 24 hours is profoundly unhealthy for anyone, let alone someone who barely eats. Nor is it the action of someone who is happy happy happy in life or in themselves. (Also ‘they send’ trainers and socks in these colours. More freebies or is that just what we are supposed to think?)

RhinoRhino · 21/08/2023 09:09

@Umbrellaisback Totally agree. I think anybody ruled by addictions must be extremely unhappy. It's sad to waste your life being a slave to addiction. It must take a huge amount of strength and determination to overcome such problems. Good for the ex that he seems to have managed to overcome his addiction issues and has been sober for years.

Two addicts living together was never going to end well. For Mike, I understand life is good. He was a postie alongside me. For Liz, I hear and fear she’s a long way from being well.

If they are gifted and not grifted, the least she could do is tag the company.

I suspect, like the “bot” clean up to cover up her follower haemorrhage, it’s more fantasy talk. Liz, babes, you’re losing followers because you’re self obsessed, manic and quite frankly, boring now people have seen through the lies.

Got top tips on how to live the dolce vita Liz, check out the insta accounts of the two wives whose lives you tried and failed to destroy while destroying your own. Mike’s ex wife in particular. Now she travels well. She really does explore countries in a way you don’t. If I was hiring a travel writer, it would be her.

These two are strong women. Calm, kind, supportive women. Their insta grids make me want to be their friend; to share in their lives (I love how they’re now friends.) Your grid makes me pity you. It’s very easy to see how and why you were jealous of them and to want what they had. I bet you now wish you have what they have.

Karma hit you pretty hard Liz, didn’t it.

LynetteScavo · 21/08/2023 09:52

DH asked me who she was when I was scrolling though Insta yesterday. When I explained he said "She sounds ill." Well yes, and Liz is mostly aware of that herself. As I've said before, it's it's all quite sad, but her actions do have consequences for others. She does post online about her life, several times a day, and also frequently refers to her books and previous appearances on TV, so she shouldn't be surprised when there are online discussions about her.

Umbrellaisback · 21/08/2023 11:49

I think I worked out why the urge to be in business development, even if for only three days. M is now in business development for a company. A case of anything he can do, I can do with knobs on?

No way?! 😂 That's hilarious

Raffington55 · 21/08/2023 12:09

@Umbrellaisback Just checked his Instagram and there it is in black and white 'Business Development Manager for ...,,,'. You are spot on. 😂

Umbrellaisback · 21/08/2023 13:43

Coincidence? I think not. His ex is a (very good) travel writer too. Hmmm
