Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

How long is she going to call herself the founder of EP if it doesn’t produce anything as presumably her new important work clients would ask her about that and want to know what she is publishing

I wondered about this...and the nude bikini pool shots (with strategically applied hearts/fig leaves) aren't exactly setting a professional example imho.

Also, I thought she'd removed those manic dancing reels from insta with their rants concerning narcissistic behaviour/gaslighting/trolls/suicide, but they're still there too...very strange!

I suppose she - possibly correctly - believes her new 'employers' have better things to do than trawl through her SM posts....

Maybe look through them if they exist. If people did send messages, don’t treat them like staff. It’s rude. However you sugar up your request.

line is that the outfit was entirely inappropriate for a ‘work’ meeting in that environment but the staff at the Cipriani have the grace and class not to comment about such things in public. But being TRUE TO YOURSELF is all that matters. So there you go.

All this bollocks about 'being true to yourself'. It's utter tosh. All she's interested in is getting looked at and admired, for doing...what? posing and acting as if she actually gives a shit about anyone but herself.
As has been said so many times in these threads, when, when, has she EVER shown any compassion or understanding for anyone? She doesn't give a hoot for other women, for other people; she's a narcissistic, arrogant, privileged, pouty little child playing at being a grown up

That guys comments about people giving her money and then not getting the promised information is a reasonable point , doesn’t sound like trolling only asking a question and she has posted his name and photo (assuming he is real that is)

I love the way she says 'we at Edgeway Press' as though she is in charge of some huge conglomerate 😆. The company is a company by name only and does no work. She is the only 'employee', but doesn't do a single thing as far as we can see.

Also “our readers”. I’m not sure what they are reading given there are no books. Definitely not the submission guidelines though

Looks as if she's off on her travels again ("nearly packed ready for tomorrow") - why can't she sit still at her Oxford home for more than five minutes?

Perhaps it's just me, but as lovely as it is to get away (and our last holiday was in 2015 as we've been too busy renovating to take a break. Fortunately it's only me and DH to worry about though), I usually can't wait to get home and wouldn't want another holiday for at least a year 🙄

And she wouldn't be having another pop at us here by any chance, would she, re: the "eating a fresh salad because that's exactly what I want"?!?

@Tortiemiaw But I thought she was running a PUBLISHING COMPANY which will produce a "timely and timeless library of beautiful, impactful words that MATTER" and beginning a "quiet, elegant but forcible movement for CHANGE ... to bring about societal changes that will positively impact the lives of women and those who depend on them".

That's us, Cleaners. Were we not all really excited when it was all first announced? I think we had already been silenced a couple of times when Liz announced she was starting Edgeway Press, so the thought of her facilitiating us being heard was very encouraging.

It's so weird that this wonderful idea has apparently been discarded in favour of being a TRAVEL CONSULTANT. (To whom?) Even the Edgeway Press podcasts (including interviews with writers, publishers, readers, historians, women's organisations, health professionals, social workers, judges, survivors, women of ALL kinds) have never materialised, in spite of it being stated on the Edgeway Press website that the broadcast dates would be shared "later in the Spring".

As for the submissions guidelines ....... 😂

I find it fascinating that somebody can be bothered to incorporate a company, set up a website, have a launch party (and. of course, choose some paper) but then totally lose interest. It's bonkers. It was the same with Headcase.

It's probably very telling that Ms Fraser has never had a "proper" job (not meant as an insult, just for want of a better word) because in the real working world people really have to see ideas through. Losing interest might result in demotion or job loss, certainly losing the trust of your team. It's just not the reality of the working world as most of us know it being so flighty and unreliable.

Wonder what the next reinvention will be after it becomes apparent that being a TRAVEL CONSULTANT simply involves putting holiday pics on Insta and gushing about running, swimming and sharing a plate of crisps in some lovely European city. And that it doesn't bring in a meaningful and reliable income.

Though I happen to know personally that Mike's lovely ex wife never reads Liz's Twitter or Instagram. She's got better things to do. She couldn't give a shit about Liz Fraser.

I see Scout has been loaded into the buggy to make Liz's life easier at the airport this morning. Not to worry, she will be using her 5 year old for thirst shorts before long when they get to their destination. Then shoving her back into the buggy when she wants to manically run for hours. Everyone has to fit around Liz's selfish whims.
