How much was your July energy bill?

popgoesthecat2 · 01/08/2023 19:29

The prices dropped a tiny bit (if you were on the price cap), but my energy bill was still £92. Interested to see how much other people's was, considering it should be one of the lowest months of the year.

40 electric, 15 gas. Our lovely cheap tariff ends next week though so it'll only go up from here!

cptartapp · 02/08/2023 07:42

£60 electric. No gas.
Four bed, four adults.

caringcarer · 02/08/2023 09:04

I'm with Octopus and this morning when I put in my metre reading I noticed they are now offering a 12 fixed rate. For me it saves £20 month. There is a £75 exit fee for gas and electricity but that's still saving £240 per year on flexible tariff. It's called Loyal 🐙.

oiltrader · 02/08/2023 09:05

£12.67 gas
£50.19 elec

How much did you actually use?

Hugasauras · 02/08/2023 09:29

If you have the ability to be flexible when you use energy, have a look at Octopus Agile. The rate changes half hourly and you get it 24 hours in advance, so you can plan around the cheapest time. You even get free energy or sometimes they even pay you for using it (last weekend there were about five hours where you got paid for using energy, so we hammered the washing machine, mowed the lawn, etc!).

Hugasauras · 02/08/2023 09:30

(It's electricity only but you can go on a separate gas tariff - we are on tracker for gas).

FrogFairy · 02/08/2023 09:32

£63 elec £12 gas, single person in 3 bed end of terrace.

iusedtohavechickens · 02/08/2023 09:35

192 for gas and electric, six bed semi detached house x

Davestwattymissus · 02/08/2023 09:48

@caringcarer I just signed up for it yesterday, was really happy to be offered what looks like a fairly decent fix! We are coming off a cheap 24m one and this new one 9nly puts our DD up by £45 per month (whoever thought I'd be happy about that 😂)

My direct debit is £250 but my usage this month was £160ish. You usually pay a set direct debit and in the summer the direct debit is higher than what you use to build up a credit for the winter months when your usage may exceed the direct debit amount.

You could opt to pay for what you use each month but that would mean low summer payments and high winter payments. Having a set direct debit means you pay the same each month so don't have large fluctuations between summer and winter

ifonly4 · 02/08/2023 10:48

Electricity £14.21, gas £35.10 based on actual usage - just three of us. We're paying £135.61pm on direct debit - don't expect our monthly bills to go down as we won't have the benefit of the £400 from the government.

Oftenaddled · 02/08/2023 14:14

£53 - about 9 on gas, 45 electricity.

Single household. Am thinking of getting gas capped - it's all standing charge most of the year.

Plan to experiment this winter and cap in spring if that works out.

Aubree17 · 02/08/2023 21:04

Gas 65
Electric 125

Damn tumble dryer ....

Usernameunknownfornow · 02/08/2023 21:44

MintyIguana · 02/08/2023 06:10

Octopus also says this... seems a bit risky?

Tracker features Price Cap Protect, which caps the maximum daily price at 100p / kWh for electricity and 30p / kWh for gas – keep in mind that's a lot higher than the Ofgem Energy Price Cap, so if you can't afford prices to increase further, you're probably better off sticking with a protected tariff such as Flexible Octopus.

Not true

dizzygirl1 · 03/08/2023 07:23

Gas -£15.95
Electric £46.53
1 adult, 2 teens ' 1 at home all thr time as yeah 11 finished. I WFH 2-3 days a week

grannycake · 03/08/2023 08:48

£13.95 gas 146 kw
£47.95 elec 199 kw

We are on the Octopus Tracker and this is the first monthly bill on the new rate.. Pretty pleased so far as I expected a higher elec bill as we are in the middle of house renovations so lots of power tool usage. Also used tumble drier a couple of times as weather here in Wales has been dreadful

khakitrousers · 03/08/2023 08:52

So price cap drop doesn't seem to have made much difference here.

My Gas went down by £15 (£74 in June and £58 in July).

My electric stayed about the same (£102.48 in June, £105.51) but I have had to have the tumble dryer on more and the lights on much more because of the godawful weather.

Hopefully the slight drop in gas prices will make my winter bills look a bit better when we use proportionally more gas.

Thanks for the heads up on that Tracker - I've been with Octopus for a while but that tracker tariff looks like a no-brainer in the current climate.

If anyone else is thinking of switching, you can get £50 credit if you use my referral link:

share.octopus.energy/ashen-jade-551

Looks like the tracker is only for existing customers, but it does say you can sign up on any tariff without cancellation fees then switch to the tracker. You can also switch back to a standard tariff or a fix if prices creep up, so as long as you keep an eye on it, there's not much to lose

jadeashen · 03/08/2023 13:28

Oops, link fail, that goes to some faqs for some reason.

I should have said, my electric bill for July was £45.80. No gas. It's pretty consistent year round give or take a fiver. Pay £50 DD.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 03/08/2023 21:26
