I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

£5.25 at Spa today for the tiniest jar of Gold Blend. No chance.

pictoosh · 28/02/2023 21:38

Tropicana in Tesco £4.95
That made me do a sharp intake of breath.

Ludo19 · 28/02/2023 21:38

Catsan and royal canin!

Stopped buying them now, used to always have a herbal tea in the evening and have had to knock that on the head, last time I went to Asda I was shocked at the price and there were no Asda own brand available so goodbye herbal tea.

Pukka again, but their Pukka Clean Greens Powder 112g. I order it 6 monthly. Last order it was £18.99, its now £27.95! No chance. I buy another brand now.

Sorry, that cat food is now £3.90. It’s gone up again!

Reminds me of the Perestroika inflation joke:

How much is this?

10 rubles.

Ok, here's 15.

Sorry, that will be 20 rubles, please.

A few days ago someone posted a photo on the London subreddit of some packs of McVitie's milk choc digestives for sale. 433g, so the long pack, but not huge. The price - £5.39 😲

The post was titled "Is this a London thing?"

Ladybyrd · 28/02/2023 21:40

@pictoosh Tesco's carton of juice not from concentrate is cheaper and nicer than Tropicana (well, it was).

nilsoften · 28/02/2023 21:40

World peace.

Ladybyrd · 28/02/2023 21:41

@Konfetka It definitely feels like that!

ArrrMeHearties · 28/02/2023 21:41

You must be joking about not noticing Aldi price increases. Some things are so expensive in there now. Waitrose is actually cheaper on some items at the moment! I was truly shocked in Aldi.

Agree...Aldi, Lidl and Asda have played catch up by whacking loads onto items...50p, 75p etc etc..tried Ocado for first time last night and everything except the coffee and sausages was cheaper than Asda and Aldi...buy same stuff each fortnight and keep receipts to monitor prices !

Hellybelly84 · 28/02/2023 21:43

Baxters Soup, Heinz Beans (I love both of these - I know there’s cheaper alternatives if we wanted them), Weetabix. Family of 4 -always did a Tesco weekly shop for under £90. Never below £120 a week now ☹️

Soapnutty · 28/02/2023 21:44

Butter and a pint of skimmed milk which was about 50-55 p a year ago, now 95p.

DuvetDownn · 28/02/2023 21:46

Lidl Piccoli ( spelt wrong) tomatoes £2.99.

BritAirwaysgirl · 28/02/2023 21:47

mommatoone · 28/02/2023 19:43

Too many to mention😭. Ive also noticed that supermarket own branded stuff (which i udsed to always buy) is not much cheaper than branded stuff now.

I notice a lot of the time recently own brands aren't even available for some things (cereal for example)

earsup · 28/02/2023 21:53

Mc Coy crisps....last year appx £1.25 for mixed pack and now £2.75 so not buying those as lidl ones just as nice at 89p. Also the nice instant coffee at Asda, that has gone up to £3 now, it was £1.50 for years and they have doubled the price in last few months, so also get the lidl or aldi brand.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 28/02/2023 21:53

Weetabix and cans of heinz soups and as for heinz beans etc they used to be a cheap meal addition! Oh and just paid nearly £7 for a box of fish fingers!!!

Saltisford · 28/02/2023 21:54

In Sainsburys, chicken thigh fillets are now more than chicken breast fillets… 💁

GHxx · 28/02/2023 21:54

not an item but we went swimming - husband, our one year old and I - £18!!!

loveliesbleeding1 · 28/02/2023 21:54

Sainsburys subbed my leek and potato soup with Heinz,2 tins were £3.40,thank God I was refunded.

Ladybyrd · 28/02/2023 21:55

@Saltisford Thighs are so much better though.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/02/2023 21:56

Paxo £2.70 (small)
Elnett Hairspray £6.50
Heinz soup £1.70 can get 4 for a fiver in Tescos but it's not the point.

Chickydoo · 28/02/2023 21:57

Was going to put some Venus replacement blades in my Tesco online shop today 3 blades £13!!!
Only want to shave my pits & legs.
Yet 3 Tesco disposable razors £2.50. I have been buying blades as its not so much plastic waste as a fully disposable razor. I just despair.
