I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Dog food now £1.50 more ( 12 packs) and a whole fresh chicken £7 .. I use to be able to get one of £3.50:

BillyAndTheSillies · 28/02/2023 22:00

The raspberry mushroom sweets in Tesco. Used to be 50p a bag or 3 for £1. Now they're 60p and no offer. But I still want three bags.

Cucumbers on Ocado were around 47p/50p and are now 75p.

My weekly shop has gone up roughly £5 a week every week. I do my food shop online to try and avoid endlessly buying shite.

Each month I go to Poundland to buy my cleaning products and snacks for after school/lunchboxes. It's usually £35 roughly. This month £55. I don't remember picking anything up that actually cost £1.

fluffylampbear · 28/02/2023 22:00

branded cereals such as shreddies for like about £3.50 per box. insane!

Forgottenpeeves · 28/02/2023 22:00

Hot cross buns! Asda's own are now four for £1.50.... they've always been £1 for six.

Whowahway123 · 28/02/2023 22:01

Burgess cat food 10kg
was £16.99 during lockdown
now
£34.90 albeit has dropped to 28.99 but even still!

Nap1983 · 28/02/2023 22:02

My dogs food… nearly fell over today was £60.99 for 12kg. Not sure on the exact increase since I last bought about a month ago but I reckon at least a £5. Was under £50 when I started buying it 2 years ago 😳

AmberGer · 28/02/2023 22:04

I agree with the cost of aldi shooting up! It used to be much cheaper than other shops. Not so much now! Every week prices were rising.
A few weeks ago I had some vouchers through the post for Sainsbury's. Gave it a go. Very little difference in price to aldi. First shop used a voucher but also acquired more, used them on subsequent shops, which made my shopping cheaper than aldi.. aldi have now lost my custom.

Whowahway123 · 28/02/2023 22:04

Also cinema pricing!

my son went with a friend during half term, afternoon show x2,
2x medium cokes, 2x medium popcorn - £31.90!!

cinema is not a cheap afternoon out now!

LilyPAnderson · 28/02/2023 22:05

Funny how all the anti EU politicians forgot to warn people of price increases.

I was looking around the Iceland supermarket and was shocked how much frozen chips have increased, and also kitchen roll. You used to be able to buy a single kitchen roll for a Pound, but can't any more.

78Summer · 28/02/2023 22:05

Oven chips. Seem to go up every month.

WhoLetTheSprogsOut · 28/02/2023 22:06

A loaf of 50:50 bread has been £1 for years (I have a 7 year old so have been buying for around 6!). It crept to £1.10 in Sainsbury's a few months ago and then to £1.40.

I couldn't believe a box of Atora suet is now £3! I don't know what it was before, never noticed the price but certainly wasn't £3!

Nice big bag crisps like Tyrells - now £2 a bag even when on special offer. I not buying any at that price. Aldi versions have also gone up loads.

PrincipalCharlotte · 28/02/2023 22:07

Bloody soreen bars. DS inhales them. £1 to £1.75 for 5 in the space of a couple of months 🥲🥲

bellsbuss · 28/02/2023 22:08

Always bought HP sauce but it's now £3.50 a bottle so I switched to Daddies. Heinz ketchup can't remember the last ridiculous price but I've switched to M and S and also buying their mayo and salad cream. M and S is actually quite reasonable now for a lot of things

Bellie710 · 28/02/2023 22:09

Plenty Kitchen Roll 2 for £7.50 in our coop!

WhenDovesFly · 28/02/2023 22:10

Haven't read all 10 pages to see if this has been mentioned but Asda toilet rolls now £9.50 for 12. Used to be £6.50.

Olive oil. £5.10 for a litre of Tesco own brand. Not even extra virgin!

Crikey - that's a big increase! I think extra virgin was £3.40 per litre when I bought a few bottles at the end of last year. I've just opened the last one so will need to get some more soon.

Mine is Tesco Finest Vanilla Yoghurts. My (adult) son has one every day for breakfast and my husband has one every weekday as part of his packed lunch. They've gone up from 60p each (or even cheaper when on offer) to 95p each. That's an increase of over £4 a week just on yoghurts!! We're lucky that we can afford it. We're quite frugal in other areas so I've continued to allow this 'indulgence'.

I've just searched my email receipts for the suet and am even more gobsmacked: it was £2.05 in November 2022 and £1.60 between December 2021 and October 2020. Also surprised to see how often we buy it, my youngest's dumpling habit is going to have to be reigned in 🙈

Cat litter. If you have a garden use compost and lighten your soil

What item price increase has shocked you the most?
FayKnights · 28/02/2023 22:20

Marmite…Marmite is a fiver FFS.
I get enraged anew every time there is a post asking this question , because I cannot believe MARMITE IS A FIVER

StellaGibson2022 · 28/02/2023 22:27

I’m pleased you said this as I’m sure we were warned about olive oil specifically.

it’s a very depressing situation. I was shocked by the cost of Mr Kipling the other day. They used to be a cheap ish treat!

Ivebeenframed · 28/02/2023 22:30

Nescafé Gold Blend £8 odd a jar!

RosesAndHellebores · 28/02/2023 22:32

I can remember by grandparents shaking their heads in the 70s as we joined the EEC. "It won't take long until butter costs 5 shillings" they said.

motherhoodroad · 28/02/2023 22:32

Well my o2 phone contract just went up 17% today I only signed a contract a month ago. 😤
