I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Yes, lots of competitively priced foods in M&S.

I was reading a similar thread that mentioned what good value M&S is. I went in and thought I'd try it but everything seemed really expensive. I picked up a few bits but in the end I put them back and left. The meat was really expensive.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 28/02/2023 21:21

I know this thread is (started anyway) about food, but I was gobsmacked to finally visit garden centres again & find the price of a garden seat DH & I dithered about buying before Covid has gone up from £300 or £400 depending on where you bought it, to £600!! Definitely not buying it now. How could it possibly double in price in 3 years?

Ozcando · 28/02/2023 21:21

Is Ocado a cheap option?

Gritch · 28/02/2023 21:22

Chappie dog food. I have emails from Oct and Nov 2021. At which time 24 tins were £14.20 and 6 tins were £4.20. Today they are £27 and £9 respectively. Chappie is the only food that will sort my lab when he gets runs and as my lab loves to lick the ground etc he gets runs often. It's daylight robbery !

Trouble is....people keep buying, price will never go down..... this month has been a genuine struggle until pay day 😔

MissLuker · 28/02/2023 21:22

Waitrose own brand loo roll for 9 used to be £4, gradually nudged up to £5.80😵‍💫

@lovemycbf Funny you should mention soda crystals. I saw them on shelf in Morrisons yesterday £2.50. Last time I bought them they were 80p.

£2.50 ! I thought £1.70 was bad enough

MachineBee · 28/02/2023 21:24

Salmon - tinned or fresh
Heinz Tomato Ketchup
Toilet paper

Footgoose · 28/02/2023 21:25

@SpyouttheLand .
you don’t happen to be around North Lincolnshire do you ? Same here .

HellsCominWithMe · 28/02/2023 21:25

Canned goods in general.

beans/lentils - borlotti, butter, chickpeas etc was 55p now 90p a can

canned soups was 45p a can now 60p

lard was 39p a block now it’s 69p. I switched to use a bit with butter for savoury pastry to save some money and replace oils.

olive oil. I buy the cans that were iirc 1.5l rather than the glass bottles and they used to be £7 a can and now close to £15

RaquelCC · 28/02/2023 21:25

Baked beans!! £1 a tin!!

Kenco Millicano Decaff Americano.

Used to be £4 in Sainsbury's but you could regularly get it on offer for £2.50 and I would stock up when it was that price.

Now it's £6.50 and £4 is the offer price!

I raise you £7.00 in my local Coop.

I then started to buy either Coop own brand decaff, or Lidl Bellarom Gold Decaff which is £1.50 for 100g. I now prefer both enough that I won't go back to Millicano this side of £5.00/£3.00 on offer, which isn't going to happen is it.

defi · 28/02/2023 21:25

Cat food. Used to buy Asda owns 6tins for £5 it's now £9

Milk. About a year ago I was buying MIL 500ml cartons for 50p. Now 95p for same size. I know it’s relatively cheaper to buy larger sized, but it’s off before it’s used up.

I buy the big one and freeze half, been doing it for years as I hate to run out of milk for my big mug of tea in the morning and now as it has jumped in price it helps to save a bit of money

Footgoose · 28/02/2023 21:26

Coffee Mate . £5.95 for normal size tub . I don’t know what it was before if I’m honest despite buying it a couple of times a month for years but that’s because it didn’t make my eyebrows shoot up .

SoCrossAboutThis · 28/02/2023 21:26

Protein yoghurts were like 70p and are now £1.65! Per yoghurt!

SheSaidHummingbird · 28/02/2023 21:27

That reminds me. Ikea kitchen island. I paid £299 for mine 18mths ago. Went to get the link for it for a friend and the price was £450 for the same item!

It’s actually now £479. I can’t believe that price increase.

Neverknowinglysensible · 28/02/2023 21:29

Milk. Always used to get Cravendale 2L. It was £1.70 on my first Waitrose home delivery order in 2020; it’s now £2.65.
Now getting Aldi’s filtered - I think it used to be £1.25, just paid £1.75.
In all honesty, I can’t tell any difference.

tulippa · 28/02/2023 21:29

I came on to say olive oil but see that everyone has beaten me to it. Cheese goes up nearly every week too - £3.20 for a block of cheddar. With all the ridiculously expensive stuff like £9 for Filippo Berio olive oil, is anyone actually buying any of it. Surely it will start going to waste as no-one will be able to afford it?

Cottage cheese in lidl.... just can't bring myself to buy it buy it anymore.

Also disappointed that Vimto has gone up but can't go without that!

Original vimto squash was 99p in home bargains last friday .

ivegotthisyeah · 28/02/2023 21:34

I've started shopping at farm foods some cracking deals in there

SoShallINever · 28/02/2023 21:36

It feels like we are going back to war time eating and rationing. I am very thankful to my Mum for having the foresight to buy me plum, cherry and Apple trees when we moved into our home 25years ago. Think they'll come into their own this year.
I'm most shocked at the price of dog and cat food. I predict shelters will be full soon.

Pukka herbal tea now £4 for a box of 20 they used to be £2.50

Stopped buying them now, used to always have a herbal tea in the evening and have had to knock that on the head, last time I went to Asda I was shocked at the price and there were no Asda own brand available so goodbye herbal tea.
