I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Those that like Heinz ravioli or sausage and beans. All Heinz "meal" tins were £1.25 (plain beans £1) in Poundland today

They’re 4 for £5 in asda atm as well

Aunt Bessie’s toad in the hole. Used to be a £1 in Asda, now £1.40 but never in stock. Morrisons had some but was £1.99 so didn’t buy it and made my own. Im
fed up with Morrisons and their ridiculous prices! How can it be 60p more?!

Brokendaughter · 11/03/2023 02:08

I'm finding the price of salt pretty mind-blowing.

Last year it was 37p in Sainsburys & everywhere else was either double that or out of stock for regular table salt.
It was a good 10p lower than that the year before.

Today 65p for 750g of table salt.

Why has salt gone up so much & why does it keep being out of stock?

DH's car is an insurance write off so he's looking for a new one. Shocked at how much the prices have gone up

A basic block of butter. You struggle to get one for £2 now even buying the basic own brand. Used to be able to get it for about £1.30 so a massive increase percentage wise.

This. Decent pastry is now a luxury 🙁

Thomasina79 · 11/03/2023 03:37

I nearly spent £1.80 on a tin of lentil Heinz soup in sainsbury, but luckily I noticed and put it back. I think it used to be around £1. I always make my own now, luckily I have a soup maker which I use all the time now. It also uses up bits of vegetables I used to throw away. The soup is much nicer too.

elotrolado · 11/03/2023 19:25

Prices:
Toilet roll
Frozen fruit (blueberries)
Multipacks of crisps
Milk & bread

But not just prices but sizes of packs too:

Go Ahead crispy slices used to have 5 bars now 4
Warburtons pittas, were a 5 pack now 4

This is all Tesco 🤯

Am not usually a biscuit fan but fancied choc biscuits today …chocolate hob nobs £3.50 in Sainsburys …they were left on the shelf!!

I thought that sounded way too much even now, so I checked online and that's for a twin pack. £1.90 for a single pack. But I had to click through for those — Google's prices seem to be a bit out of date. I wonder how long ago those are from.

Heinz tomato ketchup.

ThePoshUns · 11/03/2023 20:30

The annoying thing is that the prices will never come back down again

Itawapuddytat · 11/03/2023 22:36

I had a look at a Lidl receipt from February last year. A cucumber was £0.43. A litre of UHT semi skimmed milk £0.55. a bag of sweet and crunchy salad £0.59, a jar of green pesto £0.65. The other day I paid £0.75 for the cucumber, £0.95 for the UHT milk , £0.83 for the salad and £0.85 for the pesto.

My cat really really likes the catsan cat litter (and for convenience's sake we keep buying the prepacked bags). A year or so ago it was £7.25. Now it's £10.25.

Not even going to mention the Heinz beans, ketchup, soup etc.... but unlike our moggy and her expensive "must have" litter , we're fine with the shop own brands so we switched to Lidl ketchup and cream of tomato soup, Morrisons's mushroom soup and Tesco beans.

Truly astonishing, right? I’ve not paid as much for car insurance since I was a teenager. And I have no claims going back yonks.

You need to go to Waitrose, £2.30 for the same size pack. I've started using trolley.co.uk to do price comparisons. It's a nightmare having to work out which shop to get what, but where as a couple of years ago it would be the odd pence here and there saving and possibly not worth it, it's now pounds difference and I arrange car journeys to pass certain shops.

Car insurance they've got a cheek. Cars were off the roads for months during covid and we still had to pay. They must have made a fortune in lockdowns

Lamb mince. Always used it for spag bol and shepherds pie etc. £6.90 for 500g. Get out of town!

SoCrossAboutThis · 12/03/2023 17:04

Went to Starbucks today, said on the menu on the wall a medium Frappuccino was £4.60 so ordered it and was charged £4.95. Guy just shrugged and said prices have gone up and the board hasn’t been updated. It’s an electronic board! 🤷‍♀️

On 5th March 2022, my Forthglade dog food order from Amazon was £69.70 for five boxes of dog food (12 trays per box) average £13.94 - this was with a subscribe & save discount.

In July 2022 it was £74.20 (£14.84 per box)

On 6th January 2023 it was £80.95 - £16.19 per box.

An increase of £11.25 in ten months.

When I first started buying it back in 2017, it was £11.34 per box (£56.70 for five)

So I cancelled my subscribe and save offer and went to Aldi and got all the dog food from there - 10 boxes of 6 trays can't remember the brand name but very similar to Forthglade - It was either £5.49 or £5.95 per box - can't remember which way round.

Even the poor dog has had to economise.

Spacie · 12/03/2023 22:44

Water biscuits
Tesco's own were 65p a pack as recently as last July which was the price they'd been for years.
Now they are £1 a pack.
