I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Fat food comes to mind. I used to be able to buy two boxes for £7, they're now £5 each. We have two of the little monsters so get through quite a bit.

my cat has to have a special diet 12 pouchs (a box) were £11 now they are £18 a box

Cacb15 · 17/03/2023 23:45

I can't get over the price of saucesc £3.50-4 for a big Heinz, and Aldi no longer do the peri mayo's and the other £1 sauces you can get seem to have vanished! Actually like Aldi brown after years of being strictly HP Wink

Kitchen roll. Over £5 for 4.

I couldn't believe the price of kitchen roll

Cadburysucks · 18/03/2023 19:00

Monday bought a carton of all butter cookies from m and s cost 4 pounds, son loved them so went back Saturday to the same m and s, cost £5.50. Went through the checkout so too late to put back. Unbelievable.

justasking111 · 18/03/2023 19:29

Re thick fabric like kitchen roll. OH uses them as hankies etc. Used to be if one went through the washing machine it stayed intact . Now it's in a million pieces.

Last week leg of lamb £14 kg, this week £10 kg. So £27 . My butcher is cheaper than that

We never buy biscuits, but today I was visiting my great aunt. She loves biscuits so I bought some in M&S.

I have no idea if they’ve gone up exponentially, but I did notice they were £2.40 for 8. Seemed a lot.

Neverknowinglysensible · 18/03/2023 20:25

Saturday newspaper: £4!

It's alright Annie more! Nobody is going to judge you for buying biscuits!

Well actually lots of Mumsnetters will. But not me! Come out of the biscuit buying closet, I say.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 18/03/2023 20:36

I bought Prima magazine for my mum. It’s a more interesting 50 plus magazine but not glossy and not high end. £4.99! That’s the price if an actual book!

AnnieMore · 18/03/2023 21:07

It’s not that, it’s merely that we don’t buy them for ourselves so I have little idea what they cost.

It shocked me when I went to our local Tesco express and 8 small cans of Fevertree tonic are selling for £5.05!! Making them dearer than lager which was 10 cans for £10.20.

Local corner shop asking £5.25 for a tiny jar of Nescafé. On your bike. I'd rather go without.

thebutcherswife · 22/03/2023 17:48

Asdas own brand ketchup is £1.20 for a massive bottle and is actually as good/nicer than Heinz. I’ve tried them all (Lidl, Aldi, Waitrose etc) and this is the only one everyone in my house agrees on.

thebutcherswife · 22/03/2023 17:50

Also Waitrose own brand half fat mayo is very good too. Bit dearer than Lidl and Aldi’s own brands but a 1/3rd of the price of Hellmans and Heinz.

justasking111 · 22/03/2023 18:30

ASDA tomato soup is as good as heinz and a £1 cheaper. Heinz are price gouging insisting on all sellers use RRP. Well I'm just not buying anything they sell now. That's my protest

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2023 06:34

Heinz products can sometimes be found a bit cheaper in bargain type shops, eg Home Bargains, B&M, Farm Foods etc.

We don't buy many Heinz as we either don't use the item or don't like Heinz, or at least don't see how they're worth so much more than supermarket brands.

Maybe they're happy to sell less as long as they earn a much larger profit per item? It could be that they're beyond capacity and actually want to reduce demand? Or reducing sales could allow them to turn off some of their production facilities to save money? Their Wigan factory at least is enormous. Imagine the electricity bill and how much it's gone up recently.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2023 06:42

@OneCup our
Swimming lessons are still the same £15p session

Oat milk uht. Sure was around 49. Then 69/79 and now £1.09

Cucumber was 39/49 now 79

Sausages was 139 now 179

Most stuff lesst 25% more

Crisps were 88/99 now 1.35

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2023 06:59

Duckingella · 01/03/2023 08:13

Chicken;thé cost is ridiculous;I can't justify £12 for enough chicken breasts to make a curry etc for the 6 of us in our house.Have had to start buying chicken thighs but the ones with skin and bone on/in as the boneless ones are getting expensive too;I cut the skin/bone off/out myself

@Duckingella we now buy Aldi frozen chicken breasts. Can be cooked from
Frozen and about £4/5 now

Nearly died at these.

They are not actually £50 though, it's 50 per l kilo.

ssd · 25/03/2023 08:18

My worst was 2 rolls of kitchen roll...£4.45 in small tesco during lockdown.

Closely followed by £3.50 for the small sized jar of Lloyd grossman sauce in local scotmid

CheshireCat1 · 25/03/2023 10:42

Fray Bentos tinned pie, was £1.00, now £3.60

Yes… but I'm not used to paying £50 a kg for fish. Even if that's a what those species usually cost, it seemed a funny time to start stocking them, and a banger of a shelf-edge sticker price!

(Don't most people look for the per 100g or per kg price when making shopping decisions anyway? And incidentally, it's "interesting"/irritating how frequently the supermarkets get it wrong Hmm)

justasking111 · 25/03/2023 11:29

At our fishmonger I thought £29 a kilo was expensive for wild salmon last year but £50. Fish can be dearer than meat.
