Gensola · 18/07/2021 13:09

London has been expensive but worth it I think.
£23 on eyebrow, upper lip and chin thread and eyebrow tint.
Drank too much this weekend so going to have a detox for a few weeks!
Need to meal plan when we get back.

Bornlazy · 18/07/2021 13:38

Thanks Unescorted.

Unescorted · 18/07/2021 15:21

I have been waiting weeks to do that title. Grin

More spends on the garden... Aldi was doing slate chips for£2.99 for a 15kg bag. So I bought 10. Less than half the cost of the bags in B&Q or Wikes. I might get another couple. The Garden has cost me £115 this weekend... But so worth it.

Evening. Too much sun. Half a bottle of gin fizz (man that stuffs delish) bbq and friends over. Nice day.

Had morning snack on the beach. Hot day.

Lovemaltesers · 18/07/2021 19:52

Thanks unescorted

Still 27 degrees here 😎 it’s hot 🥵

MeadowHay · 18/07/2021 20:07

Aaaah the heat has caught up with me now because I haven't drank enough today. My blood pressure is low and I feel awful with it. Have drank a load of water and juice and eaten but still feel soo rubbish Sad serves me right I guess, I need to make sure I drink tons throughout the day from tomorrow. Although I will be home all day tomorrow working in our bedroom - which is currently a toasty 27 degrees Shock.

Spent about £13 on books. I very rarely buy books and I have had nowt to read for ages so don't feel tooo bad for the indulgence. We spent a lot more today but DH tends to pay for things when we are out as a family.

Has anyone been watching Time on BBC? I've watched the first two episodes on iPlayer so far and think it's brilliant although my nerves can barely stand it! Plus I adore Stephen Graham.

Hope you're ok Wolf hope DS has cheered up!

Taytocrisps · 18/07/2021 20:35

We've had such a hot weekend here. Really high temperatures for Ireland. I got into the car yesterday around 5 p.m. and the car display said 31.5 degrees! Not quite as hot today and there's a nice, cool, evening breeze so hopefully the bedrooms will cool down a bit. My bedroom is beside the hot press so if I put the immersion on for hot water, the bedroom gets really warm. I ran out of cropped trousers today - they were all in the wash - so I put on a short sun dress I last wore in Portugal. Never pictured myself wearing it in Ireland Smile.

A busy weekend. I did loads of laundry and cleaned the house and made cocktails. Treated DD and I to lunch out today. I had fish cakes for starter and chicken with roast veg in a delicious sauce for main course. DD had chilli nachos to start and then a seafood linguine. The restaurant has transformed the side entrance/car park into an outdoor seating area - complete with chandelier lights and partitions between tables etc. Last time I was there was Mother's Day 2020 and they were on the verge of closing due to Covid. Seems like a million years ago......

Spends

€4.69 bread and sausage rolls
€54.80 in restaurant

em glad you enjoyed the BBQ after all the stress earlier

Wolf sorry to hear DS is acting up.

Gen glad you had a good time in London

Meadow sorry to hear you're feeling rough. I'm not sure if I've congratulated you on your pregnancy.

Unescorted glad you're getting such joy out of your garden.

Hi folks Smile
New to this thread but really trying to become more frugal as i desperately need to save money!

Currently living with my SO’s parents which is helping us save, however my wage isn’t the best and I will also be starting uni in sept which means trying to make the pennies stretch!

Since moving I had to cancel my BT broadband early (as they don’t have the option to freeze an account, ridiculous really) which meant an early exit fee of almost £200!! Shock however after sending a strongly worded email I managed to get a refund for that today Smile also spent £10 on a dress alteration for a wedding and £20 on petrol.

The main issue I have with spending money is lunches at work. Over the past week or so I’ve began making my own lunch and honestly it’s been so helpful as I’m not tempted by the meal deals!! I’ve also been picking up a lot of overtime at work but have to try and restrain a little as don’t want to have to isolate or risk isolation for others before the wedding we attend (family member)

Lovely sunny day again so off to do some loads of washing and hang them out in the sunshine to dry! Smile hope everyone has a fab day

MeadowHay · 19/07/2021 13:16

Welcome dainty. When I was office based me and DH had a rule that we would both buy lunch out once a week. That felt manageable and still allowed us to have a treat, plus I usually got a healthy hot lunch from one of the local independent cafes so enjoyed supporting them and having good food too.

Have emailed nursery to confirm that I want to take DD down to 2 days a week from September. Been umming and aahing but money is going to be tight come September and even worse from the September after when I'm meant to be going to uni for a year. So we need to make the financial saving for some breathing space. I will have to cope! So that's frugal. Also asked them to put baby no.2 down for two days a week from September 2022. Which seems mad but they do sometimes have waiting lists of a year or so for the baby room and I need two specific days according to the uni.

Also will be getting a) a very slight payrise at work backdated to last month (pennies tbh) and b) a one off shareholder type payment for selling some work share things in August which will be around £1350 pre-tax. Awkward though because I will then have to update my tax credit details yet again and I'm worried this tiny amount of money may throw us off it which would be a right pain. If we get kicked off it though we will start using tax-free childcare instead so it's not all completely lost I suppose.

I seem to have caught DD's cold virus which am fuming about. Was literally well for one week after the last cold I had from her which I had for THREE WEEKS. My immune system is just not working properly atm with the pregnancy clearly.

Plan for tonight is for DH to help me sort out our tax credits renewal online as the deadline is very soon.

ememem84 · 19/07/2021 13:44

dainty echoing meadow there - i buy lunch out once a week if i'm in the office. the rest of the time i take my own. initially when i started doing it i was really "meh" at the thought of a boring pack up. but i've got quite adept at making salad boxes so its not too boring.

also invested in a cute set of snack boxes so i pack up lunch, a "lunch desert" (thanks ds for making this a thing during lockdown 1 - he tried to make breakfast pudding a thing too...but whilst i like his style, its not good for the waistline). lunch dessert is usually chopped fruit. sometimes a yoghurt. then i'll throw in a mid afternoon snack too - as i seem to be able to go all morning without eating, then get the munchies at about 3pm. so need something sweet then. ordinarily i'd opt for chocolate. but i'm trying to eat better so recently it's been dried fruit on the menu.

paperchase have some cute snack boxes...

another thing i do, is i worked out that i was spending between £5 and £10 a day on lunch. so whenever i bring my own, i throw the money i would have spent on that day into my savings.

if you want interesting salads to pop in lunches - check out Ottolenghi's "Jerusalem" book its amazing. a fave for me is wild and basmati rice, with chickpeas and crispy onions. cook chickpeas in oil (from the can) with curry powder and coriander seeds. throw cooked rice in (can get packets of wild & basmati rice) add raisins/sultanas then add crispy onions. or spring onions if you either dont have the crispy ones, or can't be arsed to fry them yourself. i made a huge batch of this last week and added it to everything. salad boxes, wraps as a filler, and we had it asa side with chicken and corn cobs. mmm.

i initially thought you were talking about "Murder Most Horrid" the tv series with Dawn French. must try and find that online...

Lovemaltesers · 19/07/2021 16:38

Last day of isolation, might not be… got advised that if my stomach isn’t better tomorrow, I’ll need to continue it as might still be infectious. Everyone else in the house can finish isolating still 🤔

Lovemaltesers · 19/07/2021 16:39

I wish you would make my lunches em

meadow it is all such a balancing act

We’re having a roast dinner tonight. Yes, we are nuts 😂
