Afternoon everyone Smile
Been to MumBobs , sorted them out , cancelled her hair appt , we paid just the same but it' too hot for her to go , so l washed it for her instead , shopping in Aldi's 32, mostly drinks, burgers, cheese and salad stuff.
Weather here is absolutely boiling and l am not complaining Smile
Gen if a bikini wax / new clothes makes you feel good then bgr it and have them l say Smile
Unescorted Dd has not had a pay review for last year or this & they all voluntarily dropped a days pay/hours a week during this period , she works for A well well known national Hospitality service who treat them decently & their staff have reciprocated in this difficult time. It sucks but the managers have taken a 20% cut so they are all trying their best to help.
Em l hope you don't go into another Lockdown lovely Flowers
Love that must be infuriating for you Flowers
Meadow sorry about your Maternity vests , yay for the Nursery funding though Smile
Just watching a junk movie on Channel 5 and quite enjoying it , l must be tired Grin

HumbugWhale · 21/07/2021 15:58

School's Out! Hooray!!

daintydaisies · 21/07/2021 17:23

spent £4 entering hearts triple play competition today Hmm not sure why I bothered tbh!

still going strong with meal prep for work though, lovely Turkey chilli made by DP Smile nice to know I’m at least saving £5 a day everytime I don’t spend it on lunch!

Bornlazy · 21/07/2021 18:39

Hi dainty and welcome aboard 😊 Food is a major source of money frittering for me. I don’t buy lunch out at work ever thankfully but unfortunately spend it in other ways.
I am incapable of going into a shop and only buying what I went in for and I hate running out of food so I tend to overstock on most things 🙈 I’m much better than I was before I joined this thread though so improvements have been made.

I am top of my pay grade with no desire to go for any promotion. It’s slightly depressing that my wage is probably worth less now than five years ago but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m sure we will get a worthwhile raise at some point. Well done Meadow on your raise however small.

The heat is almost killing me. I can’t even enjoy sitting out when it’s as warm as it’s been let alone working in a ward. Yesterday at work was grim 🥵

Humbug - that must be a relief 🎉

Unescorted · 21/07/2021 19:48

Happy holidays Humbug

Em Hope it turns around for you guys.

I am going to the office on Friday.... I am not looking forward to it with the way our numbers are going.

Welcome Dainty!

Unescorted · 21/07/2021 20:59

Oh wow unescorted amazing stuff!!! Well done to ds!!! I’ve seen some of her work that you’ve shared. Beautiful. She really is talented.

Allegedly pubs bars and restaurants are closing for 2 weeks minimum on Friday. That’s the rumours. 3061 cases currently. One died in hospital very sad. He was only 47 and had 3 kids. 12 others I think in hospital with it. Some already there for other things, some tested positive but asymptomatic on health screening for hospital admittance (I know one is definetly on the maternity ward) and some in for COVID symptoms.

We’re doing small steps back to lockdown I think….

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 21/07/2021 23:28

Unescorted, she really is. It certainly cheered everybody up!

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/07/2021 06:50

Be proud unescorted she’s amazing

ememem84 · 22/07/2021 06:55

Morning y’all.

DH is taking the kids to nursery today and is going into the office. Hoorah - means I can work at the table downstairs today!

Cleaners are coming too yay - they haven’t been in a month because of me having to isolate. So that’ll be £64 (£16 an hour x2 cleaners x2 hours = money well spent in my mind)

Am going to take a walk to coop at lunchtime to post a couple of bits and also to grab some fruit and veg and milk.

Must get back on the self care - have let that fail spectacularly.

Am also out of cat biscuits. I have wet food for cat face but she’s sometimes a bit picky about this. Although it’s possibly better for her in the heat. I’m going to ask DH to try and get some biscuits for her while he’s in town today. I think there’s a pet shop just down the road from our house so may take a all there just before coop. Otherwise it’ll be garden centre tomorrow to stock up on food for her.

HumbugWhale · 22/07/2021 06:56

Wow Unescorted that's amazing!

marthasmum · 22/07/2021 09:05

Just catching up with the thread. DS1 has tested negative but still has a cough and tight chest so end of term for him. DS2 is isolating due to a contact at school. So once again house is full and teenage boys spending long hours on x box as nothing else to do! We are hoping and praying to go to wales with my family mid aug so probably going to isolate the kids for a week beforehand (DP and I have to go to work). So holidays not feeling much fun just yet!
humbug hurray for holidays! I well remember that feeling of 6 weeks with 3 little ones though
dainty welcome to the thread
unescorted fab news with the prize! My DD has decided to swop A levels as she needs biology for the course she wants. So an extra year at home, gives me time to save up for uni Smile
em sounds scary, fingers crossed not another lockdown

Gensola · 22/07/2021 10:29

em that sounds so worrying, I hope it calms down.
unescorted wow that’s amazing! Congrats to DD! ⭐️
DH gets paid tomorrow - this month has been so expensive. Someone broke the driver window of my car which is costing ££ to fix Sad my neighbour thinks it’s kids but it’s happened three times now so I’m worried I am being targeted.

ememem84 · 22/07/2021 11:14

I am hoping and praying for no more lockdowns. but knowing our government it will happen.

looking on social media and one of our journalists has received a legal threat letter from a crew of anti-vaxxers for daring to write in his blog and also in our local paper , and state on tv that the vaccines are working. they (the anti vax crew here) are also calling for another lockdown to save us all. that and it'll kill the finance industry which will make them happy as we're all evil. allegedly.

went to coop. spent £60 on fruit and veg and other bits (including tiger balm as my shoulders and wrist are v sore - i think its adapting to sitting at a proper desk at home again instead of hunching over the laptop).

glorious day here. last of the hot ones though as we are predicted thunder storms tomorrow.

Unescorted · 22/07/2021 12:51

Gen report it to the police. That sounds worrying.

Martha my DMum set up university accounts for each of her grand children when they were born. She put money in each year - so they now have enough to pay for fees and accommodation. DD uses her student loan for food, going out and party outfits. Without my mum's foresight it would be vey expensive.

This morning I watered the garden before it got too hot.... it cooled the house down as well. The effect is wearing off now.

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 22/07/2021 17:55

Yay to nursery and cleaners Em

And yay to negative tests Martha

Gen that happened to me a lot when we first moved here. Agree either report or get a security camera on it/in it

Very very hot day out. Spent £40 on a ring and £21 on parasols and a hat. Would have also bought lunch but the card machines were down so dm paid

MeadowHay · 22/07/2021 18:13

I have just cooked a roast, albeit almost entirely from the freezer but OMG why did I do that. Sweating waiting for DH and DD to get back. Have left it all in the oven and pans and DH can sort when he gets back cos I am not going back into that kitchen. Not sure which bits of my hair just haven't dried yet from my shower and which bits are sweat Grin.

My bedroom has been 29 degrees from about midday, and that's where I work. G r I m.

No spends so far but I might but some toiletries and things for the new baby on Boots online later.

Nursery have confirmed they have the availability I need for baby so that's good, awaiting their formal offer letter.

Got letter from work confirming the pay rise - £400 a year pre-tax, told you it was pennies! Backdated to start from last month so I won't even benefit from it on mat leave as my SMP will be calculated from an earlier period. Almost pointless tbh. I'm probably not even going back to my job after mat leave anyway.

Home insurance renewal due soon. They said it will be approximately £1 more expensive next year if I just auto renew - is it worth the faff of comparison sites or shall I just leave it given its basically the same cost? What do you lot think?

Hope you don't have a lockdown Em. Crazy about the antivax lobby!

Have checked the weather and tomorrow is meant to be the last super hot day here. I like warm weather but I think about 25 degrees is my max really then it starts to become too hot to do anything much comfortably. DH on the other hand struggles with anything above about 21 Grin.

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/07/2021 19:44

I think I would have a look and see if it was any cheaper in just one site and factor in cash back sites. If it is cheap anyway and no cheaper there then no just renew

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/07/2021 19:45

Hope you had a good day wolf
Yeah on nursery
Phew to uni savings and negative tests

Nsd last few days

northender · 22/07/2021 21:27

Always worth a look Meadow I go through TCB too and it's amazing how much you can reduce by
Gen I remember that happening to you previously, I'd say worth reporting.
unescorted thanks for the new thread and well done to dd!
Hope today was good wolf

Back to the thread after a hectic weekend straight into an equally hectic week. It was our 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. The original plan was to have a big 125 celebration this weekend as we both hit 50 this year too, but obviously covid put paid to that so it's postponed until next year for a 128 party!
So a spendy week but worth it.
No real frugality to report, need to get back on it!
Dh has gone to Devon for the weekend & the dc are both going to be out tomorrow afternoon and evening so I have at the last minute booked the afternoon off work. I am soooo excited, it feels like forever since I was home alone for any significant length of time

Gensola · 23/07/2021 09:41

How much do people here with student kids contribute to their uni costs annually/monthly, if you don’t mind sharing? In a bit of a situation Sad
I just had jab 2 and my arm is feckin aching!
Now have to work out how to get back into town from this very random location on an industrial estate 😂
