Ps when they were small I used to fantasise about the idea of them sleeping in as teenagers. I thought I would get great pleasure from waking them up instead! Unfortunately it just gives me the rage too when they won’t get up. It was the source of many lockdown arguments with DS2!

ememem84 · 25/07/2021 11:02

@marthasmum

em you must be exhausted. My patience would be wearing very thin with DH not helping. Does he have any explanation for this? Or perhaps you’re too exhausted to face that conversation 🙁 We coped with sleep by having ours in the bed with us, but I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it did go on for years. I think the idea of a bed that you can get in with her is a good one.
Oh I ran out of patience a while ago. And I just don’t have the energy for that right now.

I’ve popped her cot up on risers at one end. This has helped in the past and I only thought of it this morning in the shower.

A lot of it is my issue because I can’t get back to sleep probably because I’m on edge waiting for dd to wake up.

ememem84 · 25/07/2021 11:03

She is still in a cot. I don’t think moving her into a bed just yet is a good idea. Because I think she’d just get out and wander round.

Happierwithouthim · 25/07/2021 11:30

Em that's terrible that your DH thinks it's ok for him to get a full nights sleep every night while you're suffering from sleep deprivation, would you take yourself & ds over to your parents for a couple of nights sleep & let him deal with dd?

No argument just tell him you're exhausted & come back every morning, not to let him nap mind Wink

I didn't sleep well last night, combo of wine, fluid retention & sleeping in bed with ds.

Happierwithouthim · 25/07/2021 11:32

€10 payment needed to pay for dinner above what was left on voucher. 4 course for me, bottle of wine, two courses for dc & soft drinks €100 including €5 tip.

So everything was covered by my Black Friday voucher except for €23.50.

Bornlazy · 25/07/2021 11:43

It's hard to know what's best em but by the time your ds was dd's age he already had a little sister so I'm assuming was out his cot. I know my ds2 climbed out his when he was about 18 months so that was the end of that. Ds1 was in our bed for years. Every night without fail 🙄 sometimes one of us would get up and go and sleep in his bed just to give us more room.
I hope the propping up the cot helps. Sleep deprivation is awful.

I, in a moment of sheer indulgence ordered a set of two loungers from ebay and only one has arrived. I'm hoping this isn't going to turn into a dispute to get my second lounger 🙈

ememem84 · 25/07/2021 13:07

Thanks guys. I’ve had a word with DH. He doesn’t get it. He thinks I should just be able to sleep.

Going to mum and dads would be an option if dad actually slept too. He’s up half the night as it is. Coughing toilet etc. So. My option is a hotel - but money.

He’s tried to explain it away re the hot weather making sleep difficult. However this has been going on for a month. So it’s probably a phase she’s going through but it still doesn’t help.

He’s decided that we’re all napping this afternoon. Annoyingly there’s so much round the house that needs doing but I’m just going to ignore it. And nap.

daintydaisies · 25/07/2021 14:42

Went to pick up booklets for our house & had a little sneak peak at it. We decided to stop for coffee & a cake nearby which totalled £7.30. 😊

Mrsmadevans · 25/07/2021 14:50

Well what a change in the weather! Dark , dank & miserable here today Hmm cannot believe the difference!
Enid Blyton was my favourite author when l was little. I still remember crying when , Shadow the sheepdog was taken from his Mother and chained up in a kennel by his new owner.
Food has become so expensive , l've noticed over the past few weeks,
Today l bought cat litter that sells for 1.55 normally it has been raised to 1.90 overnight in Tesco this was !

Mrsmadevans · 25/07/2021 15:31

God Em how on earth are you managing to cope. Your Dh needs a kick up the backside!

Lovemaltesers · 25/07/2021 15:38

I don’t really know what to suggest em, apart from sharing the load of early waking. DD1 went through a phase of getting up around 5am, so we ended up getting up & watching this awful CBeebies show with Granny Murray in it. Makes me shudder to think about it! If we hadn’t shared it, we would have been on our knees. We still alternate who does which child’s bedtime each night, even though they are 10 and 6! But yes, they do eventually grow out if it.

I think I’d refuse family outings/gatherings at the weekends to catch up on sleep if I was the only one getting up!

I’ve got one more week to go until 4 weeks off. Quite excited to go back to work this week 😂

We had them both in with us too Martha we pushed 2 single beds together until the eldest went to school and we bribed them with a lovely bedroom for the two of them Smile They were 3 & 4 by then.
Lovemaltesers · 25/07/2021 15:48

Oh yes, I think we got through DD2 doing the night waking once out of her cot, because her bed is actually a double bed (used to be our spare room) and we’d just go and sleep with her.

Bornlazy · 25/07/2021 15:55

It's funny Mrs but my boys slept in with each other too even though they had a room each. I think they felt safer together. It was the oldest who needed the comfort, think he'd have thrown his little brother at the boogeyman to save himself 🤪

Ahhh aren't they just lovely Born Smile My eldest Dd was the same she needed her sis too bless her. She was so quiet, so shy and the youngest the total opposite ! Grin We joke that the youngest would attend the opening of a very small lunch money envelope, she's such a social butterfly Grin I think re Children sleeping , we just have to find something that works for us, no one size fits all Smile

£7 ice creams. Half an hour swearing at a stupid dvla form that seems to require a degree in Martian to understand and I'm really good at govt forms usually but fking hell. Plus turning the house upside down for my national insurance card which I haven't seen for at least 10 years!
Washed the towels and hung them out and swept and mopped the kitchen. Other than that lazy day alternating between puppy play and reading my book.

Em not surprised you are exhausted. Personally I'd pick her up, lay her right next to dh's ear and let her scream. Or else the ear plugs would have a nasty catface or vacuum incident

Agree re food getting expensive. You don't get much for £100 in a shop these days

School uniform shopping in the morning. Kill me now. We need the full log this year so tomorrow will be two PE tops, blazer, a minimum of five embroidered shirts. I've already done trousers, shoes, trainers, pe shorts and tracksuit bottoms.

marthasmum · 25/07/2021 16:57

Yes mine slept together in various combinations. Think my DS1 and 2 would kill each other if they shared now, I’m very grateful to have the space.
mrs I remember something about Shadow the sheepdog!! I used to take things like that very seriously when I was small

ememem84 · 25/07/2021 17:11

@Mrsmadevans

That he does. And I have no idea how I’m coping. Other than ploughing through.

I keep trying to be positive and tell myself it’s just a phase. She does know how to settle herself so will re learn it.

It will happen again. but please let this happen tonight

Been to adventure park this afternoon to knacker them out. Neither ds or dd napped this afternoon which meant neither of us could. And our lovely neighbours were being noisy in their garden. But they’re usually so quiet so it’s no biggie.

Dd is helpfully asleep in the car now.

Oh I took advantage of what should have been nap time and found Dhs ear plugs. And have binned them.
Happierwithouthim · 25/07/2021 18:06

Happierwithouthim · 25/07/2021 18:58

That was a very good move re the ear plugs Grin
Meadow it is such a lovely story , we had the most wonderful teacher , she was called Miss Hart , a beautiful lady who everybody loved. She used to read us Shadow the sheepdog in the afternoon and we used to put pour heads down on the desk and some of us used to drift off to her voice , she was the kindest woman l had ever met at that age , l think l was five or six. Smile
Wolf Good luck tomorrow Flowers

Happierwithouthim · 25/07/2021 19:24

HumbugWhale · 25/07/2021 19:51
