It’s bonkers. We just have to hope that people have common sense.

But hey ho.

£40 riding today and then I’m going to shop on way back to grab some “generic red wine” and some lemonade to make sangria later and some crispies so we can have “pop’n’tiff” (aperitif) before dinner with dparents and dsis.

Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2021 11:11

We've just run out of toilet roll ShockShockShock luckily we've got baby wipes(not putting down loo) and we're leaving soon

Emptied bathroom bin obviously haven't done it since moving in 9 toilet roll tubes in it Hmm

Oo congratulations daisy how exciting! DP and I aren’t married (obvs) but I felt like buying our first house together was the equivalent commitment for us.
Happy anniversaries em and north!
DP and I were wondering whether we could manage a night away without the kids yet, we both decided we don’t feel we could leave them on their own (17,15,13) yet. My 17yr old is very sensible but worried they’d burn the house down making unhealthy snacks 😱
mrs I’m chuckling at you with your St Clare books, good for you. I read The Magic Faraway tree to all three of them - I love that book.
gen hope you are feeling ok. I don’t have one at uni yet but am reckoning on the loan paying her rent and I top up, about 400 a month?? It depends on your income though doesn’t it.
meadow that must be so stressful re your midwifery care. For what it’s worth I’m not sure it would help to move hospitals. I imagine most are being hit by isolation etc affecting staffing.
So glad the hot weather has gone!

ememem84 · 24/07/2021 13:08

mrs I missed the st clares books! I re read them (plus Mallory towers) a while ago on holiday. Love a bit of Enid blyton - even if she is getting cancelled now for being a smidge racist.

Home from the stables. DH and the dc are out at fils. Bit annoyed at this because I was going to stop at the shop on my way home for things for this evening. But didn’t because I figured I’d be late for lunch. Turns out they’re the ones who are late…! Grin

Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2021 14:19

I loved Enid blyton growing up but reading the faraway tree to my dc wasn't my cup of tea at all!

Might reread them

€46.90 on deli lunch including dunkin donuts & cone versions of lucky bags for dc

Ds is down for a nap. Her sleeping is still shit. She still wakes up screaming for me or DH every morning at 4am. Anyone have any ideas?!

Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2021 14:39

Press fast forward to a couple of years time em sorry I've no helpful suggestions Smile

It's my closest hospital and the one with the specialist NICU so if you have a baby at any of the other hospitals in the region and there are severe complications the baby gets transferred there anyway. I could change hospitals and am considering it but the NICU thing is in the back of my head plus distance in an emergency and the convenience of organising my community midwifery appointments as I'd be out of area for any of the others and as I don't drive I couldn't be travelling to the other hospitals for all my community appointments. I have been referred to speak to a consultant so I am going to wait to have that appt and then I will reconsider. Although my community midwife said there was no such referral on the system yesterday even though the perinatal mental health midwife said she was referring me about two weeks ago. That's just one of the many issues so far. I agree though that moving hospitals might not prove worthwhile either anyway though as there is a national shortage of midwifes plus all the covid issues on top. Tricky and stressful.

Anyway spends today £3.40 on drinks at the park. Absolute rip-off and could have been avoided if we'd have planned better and brought more drinks so there's a learning point for next time. Oh and 99p on a card from the card shop on the way home.

How old is DD em and what have you tried already? (Although I think most of sleep is probs luck/kids innate behaviour tbh though...)

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/07/2021 17:46

Sounds like sticking with the hospital you are at is the best thing meadow.

£122 Sainsbury’s on not a meal shop. Jeez food prices are rocketing

No idea I'm afraid but I feel your pain. Dd2 has finally started sleeping through most nights aged 4! The dts behaviour this weekend so far had been appalling. So much running about, screeching, taking other people's stuff, breaking stuff, fighting and refusing to do as asked. I have already had a small glass of wine. I can't stand 6 weeks of this, I must be the only teacher in Britain who would happily go to work on Monday Blush
marthasmum · 24/07/2021 19:22

Aw humbug I feel you. I always found mine were similar the first week of the holidays when they were small. I imagine you and they are pretty frazzled from the term. You deserve the wine!
Sounds very stressful meadow and sensible to wait and see. Travelling out of area to PN appts would be a right pain.
£28 cash and carry for sweet treats (to last a couple of weeks)
£90 Tesco (how did that happen?)
£23 veg box
£22 fruit box
£22 butchers
Equals: too much. Note to self, every time you book fruit and veg deliveries you then cancel them as they’re too expensive!!

Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2021 20:21

Marthasmum did you wait to see what came in the deliveries before shopping in Tesco? Hopefully it'll just reduce your spend next week

Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2021 20:22

Le yum em Wink

marthasmum · 24/07/2021 20:31

happier I did sadly! I got the veg box as I’ve been in a bit of a rut and wanted to try some new stuff. That’s good for me but problem is the DC won’t eat cabbage, squash etc so I end up getting veg I know they’ll eat like peppers, as well 🙄
I go back and forth with it but hopefully as you say next week will be cheaper.
Also £50 on physio for my back. Worth every penny especially as I will be able to claim back on my health care scheme. Frugal win!
BTW em I owe you a thanks for that. A while ago on the thread you asked if my work would pay for glasses etc. They don’t but I did discover in my work benefits a cheaper version of the healthcare scheme I’ve been paying into all these years, so I’ve joined that instead.

I don't like the sounds of this, normally what happens in uk happens over here too
Happierwithouthim · 24/07/2021 21:04

Maybe you'll get a few portions of stuff for the freezer sorted too

Dd will be 2 next week. I’m up again for the second time. She used to sleep through. So does know how to settle herself (I think this is the most annoying part).

But it’s the screaming. When ds used to wake up early he just used to sing to himself or play with his cuddlies in his cot. Dd doesn’t. She just screams until someone (me) comes in. This is why at 430 in the morning I’m sat on a chair in her room waiting for her to go back to sleep.

Because her screaming wakes everyone else up inc ds and that’s not fair on him.

May have mentioned before that DH sleeps with ear plugs in. So doesn’t hear any of this. Or on the occasions he doesn’t and I ask him to deal with dd he leaves her to cry it out (which she doesn’t) and then ds wakes up.

Vicious cycle.

I’m exhausted with it. It’s been a month of me essentially waking up for the day at anywhere between 3am and 5am. With wake ups during the night. I’m going to struggle to get back to sleep now. 😞

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/07/2021 06:46

That’s hard em. Sleep deprivation is awful.hope you managed to doze off

D puppy is fine now
Nsd planned today. Big of packing maybe

ememem84 · 25/07/2021 09:30

Nope. No dozing off here.

Bornlazy · 25/07/2021 10:20

em is dd still in a cot? Would she be better in a bed and then at least if you had to go in to her you could maybe lie beside her in comfort?
I'm pretty shocked that your dh thinks it's ok to sleep with earplugs in when he has two young children in the house. That is so selfish.

Meadow I think most hospitals are a bit shit at the moment. Our staffing problems are worse now than they were at the height of the pandemic as staff are burnt out and leaving in droves. The only thing I can suggest is to be assertive and if you think your care is not up to scratch then tell them you are not happy. Make a complaint.

Two days until dh gets paid and it can't come soon enough. I've dipped into savings several times this month it's been so spendy.

marthasmum · 25/07/2021 10:31

em you must be exhausted. My patience would be wearing very thin with DH not helping. Does he have any explanation for this? Or perhaps you’re too exhausted to face that conversation 🙁
We coped with sleep by having ours in the bed with us, but I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea and it did go on for years. I think the idea of a bed that you can get in with her is a good one.
