I think my main issue would be knowing that I would never be considered a real contender for the job…

ememem84 · 06/05/2021 12:43

The bbc are live reporting it on their website!

My understanding of the situation is this:

Brexit has caused a row over fishing rights
France have been blocking jersey fishermen from landing their catches for a while now. So this means jerseys fishermen are having issues exporting to the EU.

Jersey want to issue licences to the French fleet to fish in our waters. Setting out how many days they can fish and how much they can catch

My understanding is that these licences are either free or low cost.

France have kicked off. They want to stop us fishing and landing in their waters. And also fish ours. Cake and eat it situation.

Apparently though blocking a goods vessel in the harbour is technically an act of war.

MeadowHay · 06/05/2021 14:58

Love sorry to hear you didn't get the interview but being on the reserve list is great. It's probably really close between candidates. If you want the job I would definitely still go if you get invited to interview, I don't think you'd necessarily be at a disadvantage once you get to interview as isn't it usually the candidate who scores highest at interview who is offered the position?

Jersey situation is mad Em!

I'm ok, recovering from the HG, terrified about my driving test tomorrow. I was doing so well and have now stalled at junctions once during each of my last 3 lessons, all of which would have been instant fails if it was a test. Twice on a roundabout which I've never done before in my life. I hadn't stalled once since resuming my lessons after the last lockdown so this is infuriating Angry and must be nerves stopping me thinking things through properly eurghhh. Other than that my driving has been great so if I don't do that I should pass really.

Also, had a pregnancy-related scare at 5am so I had to go the hospital which I won't go into as gross and embarrassing but they eventually said everything is fine but I can't shake the doubt and anxiety Sad.

Spends: £6.90 on 3 bus journeys to/from hospital because I was half asleep and forgot to buy a day ticket on the first one Angry and £5.20 on taxi to hospital. Awful!

I don't even think I'm going to vote now because I feel grim and it's chucking it down. I live in an area where it's almost certainly all going to be a particular party anyway so won't actually make any difference. If the weather picks up later then maybe I will.

Wolfcub · 06/05/2021 18:18

Love sorry about the job. I think my view on being invited to interview would depend on their policy. If their policy is only to interview two or three people then I would go as you have as good a chance as anyone. If it's loads of candidates to interview I wouldn't bother

Sorry you've been feeling rough, I've also been feeling completely shocking post jab - shivers, swollen glands, flu like symptoms, sickness etc. Going to take it easy tomorrow

Also had a gp appt for a suspicious lump today apparently I have to allow said lump to be suspicious for another week Hmm

Em your blockade situation is worrying and fascinating all at the same time. Hopefully supplies keep getting through and the electric stays on!

The boats have gone. Guess they gave up.

🤷🏻‍♀️

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/05/2021 19:47

I agree I would go for the interview but would maybe ask what's what. Are they only interview so many some arbitrary number.
Sounds like the app was good enough but that's the case.

Sorry people are feeling grim post stabby
Good luck meadow. Please your scare was nothing too serious

Wolfcub · 06/05/2021 20:24

Meadow glad you are ok but not surprised you are a bit shaken after that experience.

Fingers crossed for the driving test. If it makes you feel better the two drives before my test I skidded on the same drain cover during an emergency stop. On the driving test the same thing happened and I swore which is a no no. Luckily the examiner was understanding

northCongratulations to your DS
wolf and meadow hope you are both ok
em glad things seem to have settled down...the far reaching impact of Brexit
love good luck with the interview decision
Nothing exciting here. The dog is snoozing beside me and I need to go to bed. I’m doing some necessary, but very routine work all day at the moment and I keep falling asleep over my computer...

AmberIsACertainty · 07/05/2021 00:03

Fingers crossed for a good night's sleepMartha sounds like you desperately need it.

Mrs the small voting queue where I am was because they were only letting one person/couple in to the building at a time due to covid, everyone would have been in and out in 5min otherwise.

Glad the boats have gone Em perhaps they were just trying to shit you all up a bit.

Sorry you've been ill from the jab Wolf, hopefully your lump goes away soon too.

Good luck for the driving test tomorrow Meadow.

I'd go for the interview if it's offered Love you never know what'll happen on the day.

Nothing much happening here. Voting and paperwork today. NSD for me.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/05/2021 05:40

Hope the lump is nothing wolf.

Postal vote here so no Q

Pleased the boats have gone

House stress here and work stress

Wolfcub · 07/05/2021 06:31

Oh bugger Life what's happening with the house it's been a right old up and down for you so far. Happy to lend an ear to any work/house venting

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 07/05/2021 08:36

Twitchy chain, unanswered questions in pack. Battered from all sides at work. Trying badly to write an application for another role but it's all changed to CV and personal statement.
Plus usual life stresses

Gensola · 07/05/2021 09:12

wolf hope the lump goes away

I just had our dual fuel bill, it is down to £39 for gas and £40 for electric for the month, during lockdown it was £110+ so I am pleased, having said that the petrol bill will be up so you can't win Grin maybe if it would stop being so bloody COLD I could turn the heating off?!!

Need to meal plan, we have a huge veg box full of new veg just arrived. I have also ordered some clothes but these will be the very last for a while as we need to tighten our belts and save.

SingToTheSky · 07/05/2021 10:17

Wolf argh hope you’re ok, how stressful 💐

Meadow hugs! Sorry you had a horrible experience but you were so right to get checked 💐

Might do some online shopping for clothes today. Really thinking forward to volunteer work and then interviews and jobs etc, I am a frumpy scruff and I must start presenting myself better! I saw some nice tops in Next the other day.

Lovemaltesers · 07/05/2021 14:34

I’ve been offered the interview, and it’s after I’ve finished work for the day so no need to tell the boss!

Wolfcub · 07/05/2021 14:38

That's great news Love

OP posts:
MeadowHay · 07/05/2021 16:00

Thanks lovelies, epically failed my test within 15 mins of starting Sad I know most people fail their first attempt but I've probs had about 80hrs of lessons (£££££!!) .and it's all so frustrating with the covid stop starts of lessons and the earliest I can get booked in again is early September. My anxiety was horrific though I was holding back tears before I'd even pulled away from the test centre...but at least next time I will know more to expect so hopefully I won't be so wound up.

Life sorry to hear things are so stressy atm I hope you're ok Flowers

Gen I've still got the heating on pretty much all day tbh I've been especially cold the last fortnight.

Love great outcome, best of luck!

NSD today

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/05/2021 16:11

Yah for interview
Boo for test

Mrsmadevans · 07/05/2021 17:54

Amber we had an awful lot of ppl waiting for ours, I will be interested to see how much the turn out was because l am sure it must have been higher than normal Smile
Aw Meadow that is a great shame lovely l am sure you will pass next time and Sept is not too far away really Flowers
My Dd1 passed on her 4th , she was so nervous, she did things she would never have done normally but she was so nervous . l gave her some Bach's Rescue Remedy the fourth test and she passed then thankfully. I don't know if it had anything to do with it but she passed Smile
Love that is brilliant! fingers crossed Smile
Life l am sorry to hear things are still so stressful Flowers
Gen I've still got the heating on a little in the morning and the evening , it's May! We have a Yellow weather warning for us tomorrow torrential rain from morning till night!Hmm
Just sorted out Dd2 energy for her , decided on Octopus 2 year fixed with renewable energy , whatever that means , it's a green deal so that is good Smile
My power cut the other day was from my tumble dryer , it was 32 yrs old and has finally died . Bought a new one from Boots appliances free delivery and Boots advantage points 209 , 836 points so 200 really Smile scrap man cometh to take old tumble on Sunday. New one delivered Weds Smile

SnugglySnerd · 07/05/2021 17:59

Bad luck Meadow, what a pain you can't rebook for so long.

Fingers crossed for you Love.

I am so tired. Early night tonight!

AmberIsACertainty · 07/05/2021 18:11

NSD and a covid-related insurance refund Smile

Life that all sounds very stressful.

Love that's fab, hope it goes well.

Meadow sorry about the test. I found it very nerve wracking too, although I did just about scrape a pass on mine. Is there any chance you can buy your own car and get people to sit in with you until you've passed the test? I found that helped massively with my confidence.

marthasmum · 07/05/2021 22:44

gen sounds like you are doing well with the frugal plans. Our fuel is expensive - 215 a month for both with bulb - but I've done comparisons and can't seem to make it much cheaper. We don't have double glazing, have a loft extension and teens have lots of baths and showers!
meadow fingers crossed for next time. I think COVID, being pregnant and having a little one (so presumably being tired) would all make it harder. I'd have struggled to learn at that stage of life.
Spendy here as just committed to direct debit of £50 pcm for DS1 for magic contact lenses that you put in overnight and correct your sight in the day. Expensive but they are supposed to reduce short sightedness long term. I am really short sighted so all for that.
Happy Friday everyone
