Tricky one Mrs butI think DD's BFF has to report her sister to the police or she's going to end up paying the loan off. Her sister obviously isn't going to pay it. She can also contact the bank to make it clear this is happening so they can put extra security measures in place for her accounts. I know it's Saturday but they'll have a "lost and stolen" helpline, use that if she can't get through to the usual telephone banking. There's three credit reference agencies I believe, DD's BFF will need to contact each and check what defaults are registered against her, maybe they also have some facilities themselves where they can provide her with a list of credit checks dine and for what, so she can trace anything else in her name which hasn't been defaulted in yet. Also so those credit checks can be wiped from her file, if possible. When you apply for credit you get less favourable rates and more likely to be declined if they can see you're applying for credit all over the place, it marks you as higher risk. Any savings accounts she should make them aware just in case sister tries to get access, some have really weak security checks like asking for info that anyone holding a statement could give them. Ultimately this is fraud or ID theft and it's serious. It's a case of either sister gets in trouble or DD's BFF potentially getting in trouble. She's got to put herself first here.

Thank you so much Em & Amber for replying so quickly Smile, l have just told her she needs to report her sister to the police. She doesn't want to but l think she is listening to me and my Dd2 . It's so bad of her sister to put her on this predicament. What on earth is wrong with some ppl!

@Mrsmadevans

Houston we have a problem Hmm l thought l would ask you here for some help please Smile
I am trying to advise my Dd2 BFF. Her sister is fraudulently applying for loans in her name. She only found out by accident bless her , the company sent her a Direct Debit Letter to set up the payments , so she rang the company and they worked out between them it was her sister, her sister achieved the first loan but since then there have been 3 other attempts in the last 3 days which have been declined. She doesn't know what to do about it . She is NC with her and although their relationship is non existent she doesn't want to report her to the police. I am finding it difficult to advise her what to do tbh, any ideas please? She's a lovely girl just hasn't got much idea what to do and am afraid l haven't either ! Thank you !

How horrible of her sister, not surprised that they're nc if this is typical of her sisters behaviour

Emailing insurance broker & have agreed on house and contents insurance with accidental damage cover for €245. I'll get refund from rental insurance as I've only had it a couple of months so this will pay half. I'm going to pay upfront want to keep my direct debits to minimum and avoid interest when I can.

Happier yes you are right no wonder she doesn't want to bother with her. Poor kid!
On a positive note though that Ins quote seems very good ! Smile

Happier I do the same, it works out much cheaper to budget for an annual fee instead of putting everything on direct debit.

€8.02 SuperValu on newspaper, wheat bran for my soda bread, red onion relish & their own brand limescale remover toilet duck which is the best
€83.44 Aldi on the rest of the food, kindling, toilet roll & 3 2pk of hanger organisers, thinking they can be used to organise dcs uniforms & stuff so there is no looking for stuff in the morning & if I want to put together an outfit for whenever we can go out or have an occasion again

Still €25.18 left in grocery budget despite buying Nutella for school hols and extra treats. Maybe I've got used to €75 food budget Wink

We always did it the other way when I was married but it's such a waste. I'll pay upfront as I've been saving for moving for a year now and then start a "sinking fund" aka category on YNAB for house insurance and by putting away just €5 a week I'll have more than enough in that category next year when it's due.

Mrs - I am with em & Amber on this. If it is not nipped in the bud and reported it will impact on her future credit applications. And in some instances her employer may look at her credit file. Also if come out at a later date that she knew and did not report it then the bank may go after her. They take a really dim view of identity theft.

Wolf I ma glad you have got a cautious thumbs up on the mortgage. It is not right that it keeps coming back to haunt you despite your best efforts.

North I use up to 20% other flour (wholemeal / rye/ spelt) and 80% white. Water is 70% of total flour. Starter is 4% of flour weight. I had to play with the water amount because I have a really strong starter so reduced the water to stop it collapsing so easily in the 2nd rise.

The walk was 12.5 miles.....around the parish boundary. My legs hurt.

I missed your news Gen, sorry, really glad you could be with you Mum

I'm also one flipping monthly direct debits to annual payments, I've got to the point where I can do this for some things and paying the interest to pay monthly irritates me.

Mrs agree with what the others all say, another friend of a friend has been through this recently and she will be liable so any residual family loyalty aside she needs to act to protect herself

Mrs I think she has to report her really, otherwise it could end up affecting her own credit rating and she would be unable to get credit card, mortgage etc in the future.

Thank you Unescorted Smile Yes! l agree with you, she is talking with her Mum atm and it seems that her Mum has been a victim of her as well in the past Shock her Mum just couldn't report her but she is going to . She has shown her Mum all the replies and she has been horrified by the possible repercussions that might occur Hmm

Thanks for new thread Wolf

Mrs did the company that contacted BFF about direct debit not do anything when they discovered it was a fraudulent attempt at gaining credit? Surely they can't just let that slide.

Gen glad you got to be with your mum.

I desperately need to clear out my loft. It's full of crap with a few sentimental things thrown in to muddy the clearing out waters.

Officially declaring myself fully committed for April! Thanks for the new thread wolf.

Mrs tough for your dds friend but has to be done. Surely even if she just reported it as fraudulent then the bank would be able to trace it to her sister? That way she's reported the crime rather than her sister (although frankly, if her sister would do that to her then she shouldn't feel any guilt at reporting her).

Hi everyone,

I've been busy with work but I'm on holidays now up until Easter Monday. And I have DD all to myself for this week. So all is good in my world.

I haven't much news really. We've been in strict lockdown since December so you can't go anywhere or do anything. We're expecting a decision next week as to whether the current restrictions will remain in place. I'm hoping they ease things slightly, especially the 5km rule.

I haven't been actively frugaleering but I've saved a fair bit of money because I've been spending so little. Although I've an MRI next week which will cost €350. I probably could get it for free on the public health system but I suspect I'd be waiting forever. It's a one off cost. I'm on a waiting list to be seen by an orthopedic consultant and that consultation will be free (and any follow up appointments) but as I'm going public (free treatment), there will be a long waiting list. If I had private health insurance, I'd be seen quicker, but I held off on taking out health insurance because I was applying for a mortgage and I didn't want too many direct debits showing up.

Everything to do with the separation and transfer of mortgage is taking forever. I've had to send in a mortgage application for the second time. I was approved last year but the approval only lasted three months and it expired before we got the Deed of Transfer sorted. I'm so, so lucky that I haven't been furloughed. That would have really messed things up.

DD and I have started watching 'Grey's Anatomy'. It's soo good! And there are 17 seasons so it will take us forever to get through it.

I read back over the last few pages of the previous thread and these two pages so I'm up to date on your news.

Sing glad to hear your work coach is so nice

Happier well done for spotting the sale and getting such a good reduction on your fridge. And a further reduction for opting for a less popular colour.

Wolf sorry to hear about a potential setback due to your Ex's debts Angry. I'd be fuming too! On a happier note, your team member's comment was lovely. And good news re: audit too.

Amber that's a lovely idea re: scrapbook.

north if you think your DD would like a break in Ireland, I'd be happy to host her. I wouldn't charge. All she has to do is cook a few meals. DD likes cooking but only on rare occasions. And if she cooks, I have to clean up. Somehow that rule doesn't apply when I cook. Hmmmm..... Very envious of your cheese. I might do a cheese order from Sheridans Cheesemongers for this week- they do a fab fenugreek cheese. And I quite fancy a brie too.

Gen so glad you made it to NI and got to see your DM and attend the memorial service.

I forgot to attach this photo of some 'special offer' strawberries from my local fruit and veg shop. Needless to say, I didn't bother with two punnets.

Also, I'm getting a new work laptop. I've been using my own laptop for working from home but it's ancient and doesn't have a camera, so I haven't been able to join in any Teams meetings. I was toying with the idea of buying a new laptop but held off. Anyway, my boss said she's going to arrange a work laptop for me Smile.

tayto great bargain!!!

I’ve just been to waitrose. £149. Fuck. Although most of it was chocolate. 10x Lindt bunnies for next Sunday =£40. We’re having dparents dsis and boyf and Fil and his gf round for Sunday lunch. So one each.

I’m making a Middle Eastern feast. Dh said that Fil won’t eat any of it. But bugger him. I’m making it anyway. Have borrowed ottolenghis books from ddad. And have emailed my Israeli client for some recipes.

Fils gf will most likely be put out because jesus wasn’t from the Middle East.

I’m trying to keep it “traditional”

Dh has been faffing in the garden this morning building his own grave a raised bed for veggies. His back has miraculously healed. It went yesterday just as I was going to head to the stables. I still went as I am a true believer in miracles.
