martha ouch that is a lot for dual fuel. Bulb put prices up recently, wolf and I both switched when they did, both to People's Energy which came out best on comparison sites.
meadow ds' test was due at the end of July so we paid £17 for an app called driving genie which offers you cancellations, so his was effectively brought forward by just under 3 months.
Had a lovely couple of hours at the pub last night. I booked it as a last minute thing for Dh and I but other friends were there so we joined together for an impromptu social. Had food too, £65 (took food home for dc too) but it was already paid through the Save Pub Life voucher scheme, we bought £200 vouchers & Budweiser matched it with £200 to spend at the same pub. It's a lovely place, does great ale and fantastic wood fired oven pizzas & has worked so hard to develop through lockdown, it's no hardship to support it!

Feel very flat after the election results so far. It feels like we are so out of step with the country we live in and no real prospect of change for years

ememem84 · 08/05/2021 07:42

Bad luck meadow if it’s any consolation I had to sit my test 3 times. I’m sure you’ll get it next time.

Yesterday was spendy.

£197 in dunelm. New bedding for the dc. A new step for ds. Laundry baskets. And some lanterns and a planter for the garden.

£75 in local pub for dinner. It was so nice! The kids were super well behaved and loved it. Ds ordered his own food.

Wolfcub · 08/05/2021 08:11

I agree re feeling flat after the election results but it's interesting to see what is happening in Wales where it's turning more red and in some of the southern seats where it's flipping to red. I noticed Hartlepool a lot of the vote share flipped from a brexit type part that was no longer on the ticket to blue.

Spendy day yesterday £80 on various gifts for the team for various happy things for them. £40 birthday gifts for friend and cards etc. £130 car tax I haven't had to pay car tax for years so this was a shock. £100 gardener - most of this was for plants rather than labour.

New window should be ready next week so that'll be £££

And in good news after a lot more (probably fecking expensive) back and forth with the solicitor I think we've got some paperwork for stbexh to sign so it can go to court. Progress has been made.

Absolutely persisting it down today so apart from a bit of shopping to do I think we will be staying in. Steak for tea. All your meals out sound lovely

Thank you for the people's energy tip, I will take a look.

Absolutely agree re election. We had a conversation about politics with DD as she will be able to vote next time. Was reflecting that she's pretty much always lived under a Tory government so has no comparisons to make. I appreciate others on here may have different views but I felt depressed at the level of corruption we've seen with this govt, yet still people are voting for them...

northender · 08/05/2021 11:34

Totally agree Marthasmum people just seem to accept lies & corruption as part of Boris' charm, it's really worrying. One positive for us is that dd plans to do 2 language A levels and a business degree with 2 languages & because so few Brits want to study languages now it will put her in a strong position, though work in Europe will be harder to sort.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/05/2021 11:45

£35 riding. Dh is off to the garden centre this afternoon with ds.

I’m going to do my weekly “potter round the house snd tidy up” saturday jobs.

Got back from the stables and dh and the kids were outside in the garden. He’s taken them to see Fil and left his keys there. I got in and opened the back door (which was unlocked….) ds has started referring to dh as “silly daddy” 😂

Mrsmadevans · 08/05/2021 13:32

Car tax £155 Hmm got to be done Smile
£6 Aldis
£3 Waitrose on 2 bars of 200 g wholenut Cadburys Grin
One for me ! & One for me ! Grin No.... both for my Dds Smile
Re the election , l am so pleased Mark Drakeford is still in overall control of the Senedd. The Torys wanted to build a relief road to Newport costing, 1.4 bn (the lowest estimate in 2018 ) the estimates already showed that the £1.4bn figure would have been far higher once VAT costs and overspending was accounted for. Drakeford made the decision to stop the relief road being built , due to the global climate crisis and local environmental damage that would be done to the beautiful Gwent Levels. He led us so brilliantly during the Pandemic he stuck to his word , he actually cared about his people imho. I respect him so much for doing this . It really doesn't come down to politics in the end it was no contest.

AmberIsACertainty · 08/05/2021 16:30

Sold two things £15. NSD. Nothing going on here. Need to get off my butt and so something.

Unescorted · 08/05/2021 18:57

I knew you peeps were my tribe. I have been avoiding the internet since Friday. My family - as my birthday present voted Labour for the first time in their lives (Lib Dem normally).

North Ds is doing French, Maths and Physics for his A levels so he can go an work elsewhere if he needs to. It also helps that the he (and DD) can have a choice of passports due to their mongrel mother.

Meadow I didn't pass my test first time and frankly I couldn't imagine doing it pregnant. North I am going to ask for Mum Taxi payback trips to the pub too.

life what sort of cycling? We ended up not going down that route with DS - he is more of a diesel engine than a racing whippet. From a really young age he was doing endurance racing, which is why I keep off the "how far is too far for my child to cycle / walk / run" threads. For him to have the top end speed would have required supplements... not really ethical.

Unescorted · 08/05/2021 18:58

Mrs £145!!!!! mine was £20.

Mrsmadevans · 08/05/2021 19:29

I know Unescorted it's a big Hyundai so we have to pay it .
My Dds cars are both 20 quid too Smile
That was lovely for the family to vote Labour bless them ! Smile

Wolfcub · 08/05/2021 19:41

My old diesel car was £0 now driving a newer less powerful and not diesel car £130. It defies logic

Unescorted MTB In the local forest. He loved it and was drenched.

I'm not to far from Hartlepool but not my district. Very surprised at the results on the face of it but looking deeper I think labour have done themselves no favour. Lib dem are not strong enough alone to make a difference.

Still stressful here.

My car tax is £145 and has been for years. One was £220 as a sports engine diesel.

Mrsmadevans · 09/05/2021 14:10

Tesco £9, nothing else , bought some chocolate for us to have tonight while watching Miss Marple tonight , while Dh watching the Grand Prix.
Weather is absolutely awful! River Usk on flood alert Hmm

SingToTheSky · 09/05/2021 15:05

Oof. Spendy day - £120ish between Amazon and Wilko on various household things. Cleaning/storage etc. Have been keeping a list for a while so managed not to get anything impulsive... this time. 😬

SnugglySnerd · 09/05/2021 15:38

How is it Sunday afternoon already? This week has been so busy. Not spendy though apart from £21 yesterday in Aldi and some ice creams while we were out on Friday.

ememem84 · 09/05/2021 17:31

Nsd. Had dparents over for dinner. We picked our potatoes and had them with lunch

Then went out into the street with the neighbours for cake a a drink. It’s our liberation day here. 76 years since we were freed from nazi occupation. We’d usually get the day as a bank holiday but as it’s a Sunday it’s just a weekend. O

Been rubbish at keeping up. Today 2 icecreams £2.60

Unescorted · 09/05/2021 20:40

life I am glad he enjoyed it.

Onward lovely to see you again.

em I love fresh out of the ground spuds....

Today has been so lovely.... met up with friends in the pub and had proper belly laughs. One we met on the way and co-opted into the shits and giggles. It was almost as if Covid didn't exist.

SnugglySnerd · 09/05/2021 22:12

That's sounds lovely Unescorted, isn't it nice to do some normal things?!

northender · 10/05/2021 06:30

Impressive potatoes Em ours are yet to go in!
unescorted I think I've missed your birthday, was it Election Day?
Things are definitely feeling more normal again now. Dh and I sat last night & went through the calendar for the week and agreed a to do list, so we know who is doing what.
Ds driving will help so he can get himself to cricket & to the junior games he is coach for. Tonight he has a junior game as coach, but best way is on the motorway so Dh will go with him, I'll meet there and drive Dh & me home so ds has someone with him for that first Mway drive. We are a mile away from the M6 so he will soon get used to it.

Unescorted · 10/05/2021 07:11

Yes it was North

We have a poorly DS - 2 Lateral Flows suggest that it is not Covid. I need to call / email school to let them know.

I was going to be super organised today & get the washing done before an all department work get together ( they are long self congratulatory and dull dull dull until the last 10 minutes then they put us on notice of redundancy)

Unescorted · 10/05/2021 07:13

hit post too soon....

I put the washer on and for got to turn it on last night. So I think I might be painting / drawing for 3 hours. this afternoon
