It's been one of those weeks and haven't been on mumsnet (I found the amount of Corona virus and scaremongering threads stressful so been avoiding coming on here)

I'm spending lots on food but no one is really eating it here, we just about manage 3 meals, the occasional snack. I've got a cupboard full of crisps/crackers and sweet snacks. Need to have a use up few weeks to get rid of it all!! We are going through lots of squash and tea bags though!

Had a spendy week - I bought some lucy locket loungewear for me and dd. Dd is super fussy on materials and clothes, shes worn them 3 days straight! I also treated myself to some run & fly rainbow dungarees in their sample sale, I'm so in love with them they are beautiful!

On a positive this week our butterflies have hatched (well 3 of the 5 so far!) Dd2 is fascinated, she checks on them constantly.

Its DH birthday on monday so tomorrow me and dds are going to make cards and geeky birthday bunting while he's at work. I'm very excited, theres going to be star trek, dragonball, pokemon, final fantasy, possibly some studio ghibli. I've also found a giant jaffa cake recipe so that should be fun to attempt to make 🤣

IcyWind · 09/05/2020 22:25

Hi all, it’s give. I had a break from SM after everything with my post in the media etc. I’m back now! I shouldn’t be spending too much as have found out the DC are supposed to be shielded (only recently got the message), so I can’t just pop up the shops and waste my money. I hope everyone’s well!.

Unescorted · 09/05/2020 22:45

Eh up Give. Good to see you back.

We have had the maddest thunder claps here ( not NHS or Thursday related) The rain hammered it down for half an hour and then pouffe! Thankfully we changed our mind about a BBQ - it would have been a steam- A- Q.

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/05/2020 07:58

Where has the sun gone? Sad

Going to put the winter clothes away, see if I can fall out of the loft hatch again. (I'm ok just a scrape) wash the dining room walls ready to paint.

SnugglySnerd · 10/05/2020 09:12

Good to see you Icy. I'm about to venture into the loft too Life to try and sort out what is up there.
It's a shame the weather had changed. For now the dcs are quietly (well, fairly) playing with Lego. Not sure how long that will last though!

Wolfcub · 10/05/2020 09:22

Morning all

We're going for a walk shortly then I need to finish washing the things from my big cupboard and putting them back post-antmageddon

Lovemaltesers · 10/05/2020 09:30

We started sorting through the big pile of kids stuff in the loft yesterday and plan to do some more today. I started getting all broody over the tiny clothes, my DP was like “no way, can you imagine that right now” 😂

LaneBoy · 10/05/2020 09:40

Nocuts I love LLL! I have a pair of the active capris as my gym leggings. But as I’ve been exercising most days at home I’m thinking I may need another pair :o

We’ve been decluttering too love :)

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/05/2020 09:57

Happy belated birthday unescorted 🥳

The washing sounds grim Mrs 🤢

Nice to see you meadow

I'm dipping in and out of mn a bit more now, I found the dementors thread and felt very relieved it's not just me thinking these thoughts!!

We saw my mum Ystd, went for a lovely walk and had a general catch up. The risks to social isolation outweigh the risk of cv IMO. So many people I know (including close family) strongly disagree though.

Went to the big Sainsbury's last night and somehow spent £100!! Think I went a bit lockdown mad in there, picked up some dvds and clothes as well as food but even so 😳

Not much planned today other than having a roast dinner at some point.

SnugglySnerd · 10/05/2020 09:59

Nocuts I had never heard of Run & Fly before but just had a look at their website and I love it! So much fabulous fabric! The sorts of dresses I imagine I would make if I knew how to sew. I might order a coue of summer dresses later as I have very few summer clothes. That will probably guarantee the next 4 months is cold and wet for us all Grin

MeadowHay · 10/05/2020 10:37

Weather hasn't half turned today! DD been difficult this AM. She was only up 3 hours when she decided she wanted to go back to bed Confused she's the only kid I know who is nearly 2 and often still has a morning nap after only a few hours of awake time Confused

Today likely NSD unless I do any online shopping. We do have a huuuge grocery delivering coming tonight. The first delivery in lockdown as I assumed we wouldn't be able to get any slots. We did although it was 10 days ago I did it. Fair amount of it is for my DPs and DB but they often do bits of shopping for us so we massively owe them. It came to like £135 I think.

Girlie I agree to an extent. It depends on the person I guess. I think back to when DD was tiny and I clearly had PND and I was soo unwell and I used to call DH and tell him I just couldn't manage and sometimes he couldn't come back easily so would call my DM who would come rushing over. If I was in that situation now she would still be coming over when necessary (which was often!), It would have been dangerous for me and DD otherwise. Deffo not as simple as just don't see your family.

We also planning some loft sorting today haha.

My initial covid anxiety has completely gone and we are just fed up with it all now. Sorry if that sounds glib Blush I'm in the office tomorrow, I volunteer to go on our rota about one morning s fortnight, and I enjoy getting out for it.

Unescorted · 10/05/2020 10:39

Good morning everyone.... I was woken up early because dh had nicked all the duvet. Inconsiderate lump.

Gardening is not going to happen here today - the soil is too wet and the wind is too windy. Although I want to share my success story. Last year I bought a £1 chilli plant from Morrisons, and neglected it. It produced one chilli but refused to die. I was reading up on how to care for it because it was making me feel bad. So I put it into a much larger pot and fed it and have been watering it fairly regularly. It has doubled in size and now is covered in flower buds (30-40), with 2 already developing into little chillies. It feels as if it is going into the cheaper to grow your own territory. Next time you get jalapeno chilli from the supermarket - plant up the seeds and give it a whirl. It appears it is near on impossible to kill them.

Nocuts I know what you mean about the scaremongering.

ememem84 · 10/05/2020 11:08

Ds’ reaction. “Oooh pink!!!” 😂

Dh’s reaction “oh. Pink. 😳🙄”

Unescorted · 10/05/2020 11:11

I am in the oooooh pink camp. It looks good

SnugglySnerd · 10/05/2020 11:12

That's the reaction I'd get too Em! It looks great!

Wolfcub · 10/05/2020 11:18

Love the pink.

Walk done. Saw cows and birds and bluebells. Looks and feels like there is a storm coming in even though the Weasley says no rain we have been drizzled on all round our walk already

Pain au chocolate for breakfast. Making a beef and mushroom casserole later.

Pulled a muscle in my calf yesterday lugging stbexh's crap down from upstairs to take for him. Made it worse doing hopscotch on our walk Blush

I'm spending far too much on books, seem to be reading one a day on none workdays at the moment and another during the work week

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/05/2020 12:23

Hey icy.

It's really easy to spend £100 in Sainsbury's.

Girlie make a risk based choice. It's the same for us seeing in laws. Mental health is as important.

I'm with DS oooooo pink.

ememem84 · 10/05/2020 12:28

Knew ds had good taste!!

Rainb0w · 10/05/2020 13:53

I'm in the oooh pink camp too.
Nsd here though I could really do with a couple of things but it's raining so I'll be doing without!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 10/05/2020 14:02

lane you definitely need another pair!!

snuggly their dresses are beautiful but I cant justify anymore dresses.

We have been decluttering but have no where for it to go as the charity shops are closed!!

meadow dd1 used to sleep for around 3 hours in the afternoon until she was nearly 4! She still loves her sleep now at 11.

em love the pink! My hair is so dark I cant get bright colours to take.

northender · 10/05/2020 14:14

Welcome back icy
Nocuts I blocked all the covid threads a while ago & have found mn so much less stressful since!
Em I'm with your ds!
Girlie We haven't reached the point of making that choice yet, but if the advice to shield goes on & on for my mum, then at some point she might well decide to venture out & I can't say I blame her. It's difficult because there is so much judgement about.
unescorted what a horrible reaction of people to dd2, can't believe how much small mindedness is still around.
Life I think it's easy to spend £100 in any supermarket at the minute!

The bank holiday weekend has been mixed here. Glorious weather Friday & Saturday, not so today. Did a click & collect order (£70) from a local nursery of Friday & mum had potted up loads of perennials for me so we have been able to fill the bed at the front of the house, created by the new driveway. Dh needs watching like a hawk though, he is clueless about gardening & I definitely don't trust him with weeding! I'll post a picture of the garden from my phone
We had our usual zoom quiz with friends last night. Nice to have some routine, normally we would all be at the cricket club on a Saturday night.
I got really emotional (again!) on Thursday. This week should've been our annual beer & gin festival at the cricket club, obviously not this time. Someone from the club had set up a bench in their garden with beer & gin, union jacks etc and videoed it set to We'll Meet Again. Just made me realise how much I miss everyone, it is like having a big extended family. Am okay again now, until the next time!
It was one of ds' best friends' 18th on Friday. They had a zoom afternoon/night for him and ds didn't manage to pace himself & ended up very drunk which was a bit of a nightmare, anyway he suffered for it yesterday & was forced out into the garden with dd to help! As it is, we all enjoyed a bit of working together which we rarely do. Swings and roundabouts....
Sea how did your VE day tea go, your baking sounded wonderful. I had a bit of a sourdough fail yesterday. Am going to try a different method next time I think. There is a MN sourdough thread I think so I may venture onto that. Unescorted any recommendations? I keep looking out for a sourdough proving basket, but they are still sold out everywhere.
Hoping to go for a walk later & then reading & sewing for me I think.

MeadowHay · 10/05/2020 14:15

Em I love the pink hair! Ive always wanted to dye my hair funky colours but my hair is so dark, like nocuts, that semis never show up and I can't commit to the maintenance to have it done professionally. But i have been starting to go grey since pregnancy anyway so I figure I will probably be dying it soon anyway. Another expense I was not anticipating so early on!

Nocuts - she doesn't actually sleep for a long length of time, only 1-2 hours after lunch if she has one nap and otherwise she will have 1hr in the morning and then another hr late afternoon. Whereas none of my friend's kids of a similar age even though they overall sleep more hours than her usually, they wouldn't nap within a few hours of waking up lol. Odd! She's always been a decent sleeper though in general, we got pretty lucky there. Expecting any future ones won't be as good in that respect eek.

We are going to have Quorn mince bolognaise for tea today.

So who in this thread is still going to work outside of the home just out of interest? DH is (hospital). And I'm WFH but in the office about one morning a fortnight.

northender · 10/05/2020 14:27

The finished garden...

ememem84 · 10/05/2020 14:38

meadow nocuts I used Schwarzkopf live. There is a variety of this that also lightens as it colours. My hair was already blonde at the ends anyway.

Although grey is apparently in right now meadow. Own it!!!

SnugglySnerd · 10/05/2020 15:55

I am going to work (school) on a rota Meadow so about once a fortnight.

Loft cleared out. Have even more for the charity shop now and it is all in the car as I have nowhere else to put it. I guess they won't be accepting donations for a long time to come though.

I find the corona threads on here stressful too. So much discussion about what is going to happen in schools, shops, everywhere else and in reality nobody knows. I should hide the thread too.
