Ugh it's been a long day! The dcs have been really hard work. I want the sunny weather back, they are so much happier in the garden. I dragged them all out in the rain for a walk to try and run off some energy and I think I did to much of a good job as they have been tired and grumpy ever since. They had a lot of fun jumping in puddles though.
Going to have 5 mins peace and catch up on the thread now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/04/2020 19:53

Those ends of foods do sound grim. Wtf do you do with those. Are you allowed to split them or give out home baking? I imagine not with hygiene and allergies

I've done too much work today and not enough with the DC. Couldn't be helped unfortunately.

LaneBoy · 30/04/2020 19:58

Total sense unescorted that’s exactly it. I am risk averse to an extreme so the thought of confronting this is very scary indeed! But while I still have the support worker (she’s meant to be discharging us now but her boss agreed during lockdown is not the right time so we carry on as normal for now) I thought I’d get the ball rolling

LaneBoy · 30/04/2020 19:59

And thank you :)
Sorry for those who’ve had a tough day. DD1 has been a royal pain today. Preteens 🙄🙄🙄

Unescorted · 30/04/2020 20:44

Life The prunes and mushy peas come in really large tins - so they can't be split. At the moment we have enough that we can choose to send it to organisations that will make use of it - community kitchens, community supermarkets and other food banks in more deprived areas.
I have had 2 foodbanks contact me for food because they have run out. So I ask our donors for the types of food they need - I don't even bother shelving it. Just box it up and get it collected. I don't feel that I can say please stop donating for the moment in case people forget the habit. It is slightly disingenuous as people think they are helping people in their community - I view it as they are helping their slightly reinterpreted community. However the feed back we get is that it improves peoples mental well being if they feel they are helping.

Mrsmadevans · 30/04/2020 20:56

Unescorted l think you are right not to let on what happens to the food. The satisfaction of helping someone out and being needed is very cathartic. Bless you sweetheart 😘

@Mrsmadevans, what a lovely photo! Hope they enjoyed the pudding.

I finally managed to get a grocery order for Mum, from Iceland. It should come tomorow. She was very pleased and it should last her three or four weeks. She has the kindest of neighbours but likes to be as independent as possible. A good milkman too.

Our work has started a food bank to help any staff, especially bank staff, who are struggling. Sorted out a few bits to take, they sent a list round of what they wanted. Hopefully not a prune in sight. They were wanting pet food too and our cat is such a fussy madam, we have Whiskas pouches she won’t eat so I put them in a bag to go. But does she want other cats to have them? No! She keeps trying to hoke them back out of the bag.

Loved the story about the naughty pussycat hopping in at the window.

It’s so cold tonight, I’ve just got up to put the heating on and am contemplating hot chocolate.

Unescorted · 01/05/2020 06:24

Mrs they look very happy and content. I would be too if I had just scarfed that pudding. It looks Le Yum.

Duchess that is a really good idea of your work - saves your colleagues having to get a referral to an established foodbank which is difficult at the moment with so may agencies closed. If you were near us I would send you a starter pack of soup & beans....

I need to wake up - I have my first meeting at 8 this morning, but need to send some emails first. I have no breaks until half 1. I might make a series of mugs of tea that I can slap into the microwave.

Taytocrisps · 01/05/2020 07:43

After my big spending spree earlier in the week, I've resolved to have a No Frivolous Spend month. So I can spend on groceries but nothing else. Day 1 is done.

We're expecting a decision today on whether the lockdown will be extended beyond this weekend. However, our Taoiseach (Prime Minister) and Chief Medical Officer have dropped very heavy hints that it will be extended.

I'm going to clean the bathroom this morning and then I've promised DD I'm all hers for the afternoon. I'm not sure if she wants to do colouring (I know she's 15 but she loves art and has one of those adult colouring books) or start making a jigsaw. She's going to her Dad's for the weekend but will be home for the family Zoom quiz on Sunday evening. We're doing a movies round. We did up the questions yesterday.

We're both waiting on parcels. I'm waiting for clothes from Boden and runners (trainers) from Sports Direct. DD is waiting for clothes from Bershka and Sports Direct. The Bershka clothes are very late - they were due by the 17th April. I don't usually shop online much because it's a very inefficient way of shopping, especially for clothes. Also, we don't have free returns in Ireland so if the clothes don't fit or I don't like them, I have to pay to post them back. As well as the cost involved, I have to go to a post office and it's hard to find time to do that when you're working full-time. But obviously we're in exceptional times atm and the shops are all closed.

maddenlightfoot · 01/05/2020 07:57

Payday woohoo! And the day I get to go shopping!! (who would have thought that supermarket shopping would become the social highlight of the week?!!)
Lockdown has made me massively review our food budget. I used to set it unreasonably low (£60/£70pw) but being home with 5 of us eating all meals I think it's a more realistic £100pw. Really trying not to do any top ups either so need to get extra bread and milk and really think ahead to anything that might run out before next week.

Taytocrisps · 01/05/2020 08:52

I just heard some bloodcurdling yowls and discovered Stray Cat in my dining room! The bloocurdling yowls were coming from DCat 2. Poor DD got a rude awakening. I don't know if it's actually a stray cat - it doesn't have a collar but looks very well fed. I've been leaving the back door open during the day so the cats can come and go as they please but I might have to rethink that.

SnugglySnerd · 01/05/2020 11:16

What a cheeky cat Tayto. I was frightened half to death once when a random cat jumped in through our window!

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/05/2020 11:37

Cheeky cat seems to have picked you.

Yeah pay day, debits should have gone so will log on later. Going to get a basket full from Aldi yesterday

Rainb0w · 01/05/2020 11:52

Also thinking the cat has chosen you!
Nsd here and I'm keeping it this way for the weekend hopefully

ChristmasSeacow · 01/05/2020 12:12

Rushing in with a question: can I make salt dough with bread flour? I have enough of that to spare but not enough plain flour...

Trying to keep the kids occupied today so DH can catch up with his work.
Back later.

Unescorted · 01/05/2020 13:40

sea yes

Lockdown has gone on too long - even my leggings are feeling tight

ememem84 · 01/05/2020 14:34

We are lifting our lockdown!!!

Personally I think it’s too soon. But there we go.

LaneBoy · 01/05/2020 14:40

Wow em Shock

ememem84 · 01/05/2020 14:44

Well. We can see more people. Golf courses will open 🙄.

So the headline of “lifting lockdown” isn’t entirely accurate.

LaneBoy · 01/05/2020 14:58

Ah. Golf eh? Well I suppose it’s possible to social distance on the fields 🤔

Unescorted · 01/05/2020 15:07

Could it be your powers that be don't like golfers.... get them all to infect each other & then they can develop the golf courses.

Happierwithouthim · 01/05/2020 15:36

Don't know if I'll get to catch up on thread before bank holiday weekend but if I don't have a good one everyone.

I just did some preorders on Amazon for three Marie Force books - one is released 5th May so I'll be paying that then, another end of June and third in August. I love her books so this is something to look forward to.

Paid my rent today €800 and ordered a rent book €6.95 including delivery, this will enable me to complete application for GP visit card so well worth it. Will also be spending €10 on courier to collect my phone for repair, will argue that charge with my phone provider once it's repaired!

Yesterday €44.35 on tank of gas & sweets out of dc pocket money, think gas was on expensive side but it was nearest shop and I was hungry Shock

Happierwithouthim · 01/05/2020 16:11

unescorted dettol all in one disinfectant spray is pleasant and not at all drying on your hands if you can get it, it also polishes mirrors well according to mrs hinch, she's right it does!!

mad that bread & butter pudding just looks so good I'm going to have to make some for bank holiday weekend.

SnugglySnerd · 01/05/2020 16:22

Unusually calm and productive day here. Dh is now making spag bol for tea. It smells amazing!
