£78 birthday present to myself
£24 present for neices birthday.
Feeling a little brighter today.

Lovemaltesers · 29/04/2020 12:48

Thanks for all the love and thoughts 😘

I did a bit of finances sorting yesterday by setting up a new regular saver but chose one you can make withdrawals from this time, just in case.

Got a bit of a quiet time with work to do this week. Next couple of weeks will be busier though as about to hit my least favourite time of year. On the plus side none of the normal day to day stuff to do at the same time this year.

Hope DD is on the mend em

Sorry to hear about DPs reduction in work duchess

DD2 has been playing with play doh for about 2 hours... seems a shame to stop her to make her do school work. So I’m having a ☕️

Lovemaltesers · 29/04/2020 12:49

NSD so far and maybe yesterday. Bought some hand gel online but can’t remember what day it was!

Lovemaltesers · 29/04/2020 12:52

We have flour on the Ocado delivery due on Monday. On tender hooks as to whether it arrives.

Unescorted · 29/04/2020 12:56

Happy Birthday Rainbow

Duchess Thrifty Lesley is another good one for super cheap but tasty meals. Is it likely to carry on past the lockdown period or is it going to be a longer term thing while the company gets back on its feet? Also could they not furlough some workers to reduce their out goings and keep the rest on full time hours? It must be such a worry for you - hope it is only a short time.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 29/04/2020 17:07

Hi everyone fell of the thread again for a few days, I'm still quite busy really as am now working in two roles plus managing dd at home and trying to do my uni work. This week I did Pilates on Monday evening via zoom and then pub quiz on Tuesday also via zoom!! We hosted the quiz this week and My quiz questions were on famous dogs 😁

I've been paid and have moved money into savings, savings account looking quite healthy for a change. Although am ear marking £2000 for decorating the living room when all this is over, I want hard floor and am guessing that will be at least £1000.

We walked to a local supermarket today was a nice walk along the river, the dog absolutely loved it but has come back with a weird smell that's lingering even though we have bathed him 🤢

Picked up a few bits including two dvds for dd £18.

Hope everyone is okay, sorry I'm not very good at keeping up atm.

Unescorted · 29/04/2020 17:59

Hi Girlie - sounds as if you are busy.

I have just got back from the Aldi... I have flour. Not strong, but we can cope. The world has tipped back on its axis. The only thing that is missing now is pot scourers, so I am voting that I don't do the washing up.

Just a heads up the blood service is really short on blood and platelets … if you could spare a pint they would be really grateful.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/04/2020 20:04

Oh I'm not allowed to donate as I faint. But that was years ago I wonder if they have changed policy.

Spent afternoons ordering clothes for DD who at 12 is taller than me. Got discounts though
£35 h&m, £34 Hollister, £15 coop on sweets for DS friend birthday. We will get her a proper present after this. £47 milk man.

Rainb0w · 29/04/2020 20:20

Burnt tea brought a takeaway £20

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 29/04/2020 22:13

Thank you for the kind words re DP’s work. We think it may lead to redundancy in due course. So anything I can save now will be a boon. But as long as I can keep in work myself we should be ok. I had quite a nice pay rise last year. There was a little finance on some work we had done in the car but the last payment for that is June. I cancelled my gym subs a while ago, Dp is still paying his but will try to cancel asap. The only thing I slightly regret is upgrading my phone a few weeks ago, iPhone 11, two year contract. But I did it with the idea that when the time is up, DP will have it, he has my SE now, so at least we pay for only one new phone at a time. The only other expense is the cat, but we have insurance for her, not too dear.
Thank you for the Thrifty Lesley recommendation, @Unescorted I read her blog a while back, must revisit.
Lots to think about. But feeling reasonably positive.
In happier news, it’s my Mum’s birthday today, 81 years young. I rang her earlier and she said she had “a canny day”, lots of family rang her up and sent cards and she made herself a nice dinner and was going to put one of the DVDs I sent her on this evening. Will resume supermarket battle in the morning.

northender · 29/04/2020 23:11

Duchess sorry to hear that news. It does sound like you have things as organised as you can.
em hope dd is improving.
seacow I think the wadding you use makes a big difference. We use cotton wadding rather than polyester which is twice the price, but well worth it, a much nicer feel. I love that design in the picture, go for it!

Second sourdough loaf is proving overnight, ready for breakfast tomorrow.
no work til Tuesday, woohoo!
NSD as usual at the moment

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/04/2020 07:11

Sorry to hear that dutchess. Also make sure the stuff you are paying for you are on the best deal. Martin money saver has a finance overhaul in a day thing. Will see if I can find it.

ememem84 · 30/04/2020 07:35

Dd seems like she’s back to her normal self. Phew.

News here today: antibody testing begins tomorrow. 1500 people will be selected for the initial phase of testing. And back to school/nursery date has been moved to 1 June at the earliest.

Dds third tooth has broken the skin. Hurrah!!!! Finally. It’s been causing her a lot of grief.

Today I need to order catface some food and litter.

Taytocrisps · 30/04/2020 08:03

I opened my bedroom door this morning and a strange cat appeared in the landing! I assumed it crept in yesterday when I was doing some work in the garden. I shooed it out the front door. Two seconds later the same cat appeared in the hall. Turns out DD left a downstairs window open yesterday, so no sooner had I shooed it out the door than it popped back in the window. I guess I'm lucky I didn't have any other intruders during the night.

ememem84 · 30/04/2020 11:10

Almost spent a fortune on paperchase as I saw that they were doing 50% off today for all “heroes” (nhs and education). Dsis was trying to log in but couldn’t so I said I’d try. £100+ stuff in the basket I didn’t need. And she couldn’t find her union membership no. So didn’t buy anything.

Dd is in her jumperoo next to me at the table. Ds and dh have gone out for a walk.

Happierwithouthim · 30/04/2020 12:43

Hi everyone
Hi girlie sounds like you're super busy but doing well
em great news

Almost €190 in Dunnes yesterday including €15 on a pair of shorts each for dc.

There's issues with contracts for purchase of house so I'll be renting for another few months.

Lovemaltesers · 30/04/2020 14:26

That’s frustrating for you happier

I would have been very freaked out by that tayto!

About to go and do ours and my parents food shop. Urrrgh, it takes ages even though I go when it’s quiet.

Rainb0w · 30/04/2020 15:17

£6 spent on fruit shopping

Happierwithouthim · 30/04/2020 15:34

We're living in a beautiful spot though while renting so that takes the sting out of it love

LaneBoy · 30/04/2020 15:47

Glad DD is feeling better em!

I’ve not managed to keep up with the thread since like page 12 sorry 😳 it’s bizarre how busy I feel at the moment when arguably we should be less so.

I did something a bit scary but exciting today. Asked my support worker if she knows any organisations that could help someone in my situation (autistic but supposedly “high functioning” plus health issues etc) find work. It is time. I miss it a lot.

I’ve had some paid work this week (typing/editing for someone self publishing) but it’s very sporadic and in future I want to do something out of the home. A career. But confidence is approximately zero so I am being brave and asking for help :)

Lovemaltesers · 30/04/2020 18:09

That’s an exciting step for you lane

1st world problem- I really dislike buying my mum full price pringles 😂 But they go on her list every week. We never buy them ourselves unless they are on offer! Next time then go on offer, I may have to buy more and ration them out to her each week.

£119 in Tesco. £31 was for my parents and my mum writes me a cheque. Fortunately I have now discovered paying in cheques online.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/04/2020 18:11

I hate paying full price for anything. The Aldi stackers are nicer imo.

Got lots of lovely vouchers today for my leaving next and pandora. And some lovely flowers.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/04/2020 18:12

What about going back to tutor work lane? How exciting for you. Well done on being brave

LaneBoy · 30/04/2020 18:31

Thank you!
I do definitely want to tutor again as well as paid employment - TBH it is quite easy money as well and I do love it. I know I’ve been saying that since Cagletini was born (she’s 2.5) 😳
My confidence just disappeared though and it’s A Thing now IYSWIM. However I’m hoping that lockdown is giving me an opportunity for a fresh start and an easy way to open up lessons again once it’s over!

Unescorted · 30/04/2020 19:39

Lane well done for confronting you fear & asking for help. I always think it is the hardest bit because it is easier to not start something than fail trying even though not starting guarantees failing. Hope that makes sense - it is a bit garbled.

I have been to the food bank today - we have had loads of donations of the unwanted bits of the govt food boxes. My word they are grim - catering sized mushy peas or prunes in light syrup anyone? Cereal that looks like someone has stomped on it. Some tinned meat product …. I think.
We are also getting what looks like the clearing out of cupboards with medical nutritional drinks in- I worry about why the cupboards are being cleared out. So my hands have been washed more than Lady Macbeths. We have run out of hand sanitiser & have no running water so am using kitchen cleaner. My skin is cracking.
