Couldn't see one so took the liberty of starting a new thread.

@lifelongfrugaleer thanks! The blankets were made by my sisters best friends mum (who I’ve met once.....) such a lovely kind gift.

Dd has gone off to sleep on her cot.

Gym this evening and veggie satay stir fry for dinner.

Tomorrow will be a stay home and do chores sort of day.

ChristmasSeacow · 11/11/2019 23:39

Argh, bathroom guy came round and talked to me for ages tonight (he has Aspergers, which I count as a plus in a bathroom fitter, but he does like a lot of detail...!). Anyway, he said the tiles I have chosen are going to be a pain to clean as they are like a natural stone and not as smooth as porcelain. I do have a second choice but they are not as pretty and they don’t come with a different textured tile for an accent stripe round the shower cubicle, and running round the room.

Wwyd? More beautiful, hotel type tiles with fancy stripe but harder to clean, or easier to clean (and cheaper) tiles but more industrial urban vibe? And plainer (no accent stripe)? If it makes any difference this is the en suite that DH uses, I don’t tend to go in there.

£4 on chicken, due to my inadequate ocado shop this week. Resisted the treats.

northender · 12/11/2019 04:52

I'd go easier to clean seacow

northender · 12/11/2019 05:07

wolf well done on getting all that paperwork sorted.
Welcome curse, lots of encouragement and advice here.
Em cot looks good, well done.
Had a busy but good weekend. Quite spendy, but mostly planned spends.
Made lentil soup last night. Should be enough for 2 days lunches for dh & I.
Not been feeling great, trying to fend off a nasty cough. I have a condition which means I'm prone to chest infections, but at the moment this is just a cough & sore throat, nothing more, so trying to keep it that way.

Wolfcub · 12/11/2019 06:23

Are you going to be cleaning the en suite Sea or is dh?

North hope you feel a bit brighter soon

Em lovely cot and blanket

ChristmasSeacow · 12/11/2019 07:09

I’d have guessed North would go head, not heart Grin.

We have a cleaner Week to week but it would be me doing the deep cleaning.

ChristmasSeacow · 12/11/2019 07:10

Fancy tiles and not-so-fancy

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/11/2019 07:17

Do people clean tiles?.
What about fancy and that shower spray stuff? Probably can't if they are stone.
If in cleaning them I would want easy to clean but the other are nicer imo.
Which does DH prefer if he had to see them?
Took me a while to see the difference tbh so there is not much in it.

Sorry not helpful

We use that Method shower spray every day and it seems to keep the tiles fairly clean. They still need a proper clean but not too often. We sometimes give the grouting a scrub. Not sure about using it on stone tiles though.

Saved £150 on my car insurance yesterday. The new quote includes AA cover and it's still loads cheaper than our existing provider's renewal quote.

ChristmasSeacow · 12/11/2019 07:33

The tiles look like stone but they’re not, so I can go all out on the chemicals. They are hard to photograph but do look very different irl. The ‘clean’ ones have a distressed, slightly industrial finish with slight lines on. The others look like natural stone.

Here’s some walls in the shops. Thanks for indulging me!

Btw, Topps Tiles has 10% discount for nhs staff, in case that’s of use to anyone.

ChristmasSeacow · 12/11/2019 07:34

Nice to have you back Snuggly

Wolfcub · 12/11/2019 07:40

Get the ones you like in that case. An occasional steam clean will sort the twiddly bits. I also swear by the method shower spray

Wolfcub · 12/11/2019 07:44

Hotel breakfast this morning but as usual it's not a great one so tomatoes on toast and hash browns for me

SnugglySnerd · 12/11/2019 08:37

Thanks Sea! I like both lots of tiles. If they won't be difficult to look after then just choose your favourites.

ememem84 · 12/11/2019 09:13

Both look lovely. I prefer the second picture though.

Interesting morning so far. Text from a random number “hi it’s xxx fils gf’s friends daughter. Fils gf said you had 0-3m baby stuff I could have and to text you to arrange collection?. Can I come by this week?”

Text dh who has called Fil. Apparently fils gfs friends daughter has just had a baby and can’t afford much stuff. Fils gf has said she can have all our things.

Text the person back and said that fils gf was mistaken. Person very apologetic (or as apologetic as you can be via text).

Fils gf however...not happy I’ve told her friends daughter no. I’ve text her (fils gf) and said not to offer our things to other people.

She’s going to come over with Fil apparently and “talk to me” about it.

No is a complete sentence right?! As is “I’m not a shop or a charity”

The crazy thing is, if she’d asked I’d have probably let some of it go....

Bornlazy · 12/11/2019 10:43

Sea I would definitely go cheaper and easier to clean, especially if you don’t actually use the shower much to admire them.

em that’s totally bizarre. Who even does that without checking first?

Limping along financially. Have done quite a lot of Christmas shopping but still have most of the DS’s presents to buy 💸 Think I’ll wait for Black Friday now.
Yesterday’s spends:- Petrol £25 and Lidl £34

Happierwithouthim · 12/11/2019 12:05

sea I'd be going with easy to clean especially when you're not going to get the benefit of them yourself, and your only time seeing them will be to clean them, you'll just end up regretting the decision.

em fil's gf doesn't know what your plans are for perhaps more children or maybe you've already decided to give the clothes to someone else. There's nothing to discuss. They seem to have the attitude that they can tell you what to do Angry

Spends yesterday €5.25 on cooking oil (borrowed friends deep fat fryer) and a yogurt.

Today I'll be buying lunch as we've managed to run out of tuna which I was planning on having in my sandwiches today. Always have about six tins in the press Hmm and I'm spending €50 on wood pellets for my boiler also.

ememem84 · 12/11/2019 12:44

born I know. 😳🙄

Shes been round with Fil. I had to ask them to leave. She went on and on about how I had to give the things away to her friend. Because otherwise she’d look bad and I wouldn’t want that would I?

I need to think about my position within the family aapparently. And stop being so selfish. I need to learn to do what’s expected of me and stop trying to cause trouble. And learn my place young lady. This was backed up by Fil.

They’re going to have words with dh about my behaviour apparently. 😂

I’ve relayed everything to dh. He sent me an 🙄

In other less interesting news I’ve been to boots and picked up my orders, and have cracked on with the laundry.

Happierwithouthim · 12/11/2019 12:52

Just order a 2kg food storage container from Amazon for cat food with a pour spout, because I'm sick of it spilling on the countertop £5.99 + £1.99 postage and a 15kg one for dog food with scoop in underside of the lid for the same reason £11.65 + €3.85 for DPD Parcel Wizard. this will also make them tidier in the kitchen too.

How very victorian em, they don't seem to realise you're a person in your own right with your own brain and earning capacity. She'll look bad because she made a mistake offering your stuff away, if she's feeling so generous maybe she could buy this baby some clothes?

Happierwithouthim · 12/11/2019 14:13

€3.40 on lunch which was sandwich & bag of crisps so very cheap sandwich
€40 on pellets couldn't fit anymore into the car Grin

SnugglySnerd · 12/11/2019 14:36

Oh my goodness Em that is just crazy! I bet her friend feels really embarrassed too now about texting you. So she put you both in an awkward position.

Just ordered some Christmassy string with the intention of getting the dcs out to collect twigs and make lovely natural and festive Christmas decorations like on Pinterest. I'm being a bit optimistic I think!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/11/2019 15:06

Your dhs family are nuts Em, although the 'friend' sounds nice so the softy in me would probably bag her up some bits! I gave all dds stuff away as liked passing it on.

I like the first tiles sea, I've lived in my house 3 years and have yet to clean my tiles 😶 they look fine honest 😜

Nice to have you back snuggly was wondering where you were.

I've worked from home today and just realised I was meant to take my car to the garage as a few things need checking - I totally forgot oops!

Spent £65 in Aldi last night, about £15 of that was on various Christmas bits and I needed to stock up on other things.

ememem84 · 12/11/2019 15:43

Dh has called me. Fil has called him at work and has told him to make sure he keeps me in check. Essentially Fil told him that his gf is “top woman” in the family so I need to toe the line and know my place.

Dh said he told Fil that at least I shared the same surname and that I’ve been part of the family for longer than gf.

I told dh that if it’s been approached differently I’d have put a bag together. I just don’t like being told what to do with my things.

Nsd so far.

SnugglySnerd · 12/11/2019 15:54

Seriously Em that is awful. Keep you in check?!! I think the 1950s are looking for him...

ememem84 · 12/11/2019 16:05

Yep. Dh was laughing when he told me. as if he could keep me in check
