Sea
There is a little device which floats up when it fills and when it reaches a certain level it cuts the machine off to prevent flooding.
Sometimes it gets stuck .
Pull your DW out and gently tilt back and forth (you might need towels etc) to dislodge.
Or your pipes may have a blockage .
The above trick was given to me by a retired DW repairman Grin
Has saved me a few call outs .
Omg The Bodyguard -on the edge of my seat!

northender · 23/09/2018 22:38

Bodyguard...what can I say??? What a tense episode, absolutely brilliant. We all sat & watched it together & have spent another 20 minutes debriefing afterwards, great frugal fun!!

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 23/09/2018 22:48

Well my dad went home, but my dsis said he still isn't right, I told her to give my dad my work number and if he is no better or has a relapse he can contact me as I am the closest to the hospital.
Thank you all again for listening x

Spends today
Morrisons £33.35, on milk, yoghurt, tictacs and I got that jumper and some skinny jeans

ChristmasSeacow · 23/09/2018 22:50

Ooh thanks Quite - if it isn’t resolved after running this time I’ll try your trick.

Just finished The Bodyguard, which is why I’ve been offline. Was very enjoyable! I got distracted by DH crunching on Kettle Chips though noisy eating turns me into a psychopath

Here’s the cake! It won’t mean anything if you haven’t read ‘the day the crayons quit’. Great book but bloody fiddly to turn into a cake 😬😁

mammynowanauntyIRL · 24/09/2018 05:58

Brilliant cake @seacow and no cellophane needed to make it look professional Wink

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/09/2018 06:05

That cake is fab

thistimenextsummer · 24/09/2018 07:07

We're an episode behind on Bodyguard - we had stopped watching as found it a bit boring to begin but then heard really good reviews so are now trying to catch up!

Wow sea that cake is just amazing! It's also a fab book (and very easy World Book Day costume if anyone is struggling come March!)

Yesterday ended up being spendy as I was laid up in bed all day unwell. I thought the house had gone really quiet (which was bliss as I managed to sleep for most of the day after being up sick in the night) but it was quiet as dh had taken the girls out for lunch, shopping and softplay.

Wolfcub · 24/09/2018 07:23

Sea that cake is bloody brilliant

Sea that cake is fantastic!! I bet it tasted great too 😍

WreckTangled · 24/09/2018 07:36

Sea that's amazing!

Pay day today. Hmrc have decided I owe them tax because they're too stupid to work it out properly so, until April next year, I have £20 left a month after bills. Lucky me. Definitely won't be getting a freestyle libre sensor now.

LonelyOversharer · 24/09/2018 07:42

seacow !! That is amazing

I listed all the bike shoes last night, 7 pairs, they'll sell when they sell, but should nett me about £300 when they do. You see why this stuff is worth the bother of listing on ebay?

So far this morning I've made a batch of choc chip cookies, too lazy to do them last night. Just waiting for a shower before the mad rush. Clear blue sky here, but very nippy out.

LonelyOversharer · 24/09/2018 07:44

Ffs wreck thats all you need. Can you call them (and wait in the uber long queue) and talk to a human? The ones as I'm crap at self assessment I've spoken to have been ace.

QuitelovesStrictly · 24/09/2018 07:50

Fabulous cake Sea
Oh Wreckthats shit !
How did that happen?
Can you negotiate -£20 a month after bills ?? Sad
SWFL I was speechless at their stupidity .
Desperate -to be made redundant and lose their house but to carry on living beyond their means and 11 holidays in 4 years Shock
The Mum seemed to have a huge sense of entitlement -justifying the holiday expenditure by saying "but we work?" with this tone of bafflement.
And the men...
Haha either dressed in "wacky"stuff that makes them look like toddlers or wearing normal stuff that looks identical whatever the price Confused
Bonkers!

WreckTangled · 24/09/2018 08:00

Nope. It is what it is. Plus the car is costing me a fortune but we needed it because ours was broken and we already have one loan so couldn't get another one and I need a reliable one for work.

Dh has more of his own money left over each month but not loads and already feels hard done by.

We're fine really, we can pay all the bills and we've paid for holidays plus it's not a long term thing.

It happened because they didn't tax me for my car and they didn't remove the married tax allowance like I told them to and for some reason they've only just realised this?!

It doesn't help that dh is on a shit wage and hasn't had a pay rise for about five years.

Bornlazy · 24/09/2018 08:30

Wreck that’s all you need 😨. We have had various problems with HMRC over the years and it’s always been to do with dh’s company car and fuel allowance. We even had one that went back five years from a previous employer...it was so frustrating as it was the company who had given them the wrong information but we still had to pay it back. You can pay it back over a longer period of time but think they can charge interest on it.

WreckTangled · 24/09/2018 08:39

It's for the current year so the back pay is only over the past five months its just annoying because they've put my tax code down to 548!

ememem84 · 24/09/2018 09:08

sea that’s incredible. We have the day the crayons quit. Love it.

wolf swfl. I don’t get it. I don’t. I never had branded stuff when I was a kid. It wasn’t for lack of affordability. I remember being so mad that I wasn’t allowed Adidas trackies when I was a kid. “Everyone” else has them. I didn’t. I get it now. But man so mad.

I dont buy much full price for ds. The last things I bought full price were a coat for winter and a lovely jumper in next.

Ds has been spoiled for his birthday. Absolutely spoiled rotten. He’s napping. It’s all a bit overwhelming for him. He loves his balloons!! and people have been super generous and he’s now got more money in his account than me...

Will post pic of cake later once it’s done.

CurlsandCurves · 24/09/2018 09:14

wreck that’s really crap. At least like you say the bills are paid, there’s just nothing left after that which is horrible to deal with. Been there myself before. At least there’s an end point to it. Hang in there.

seacow that cake is ace!

Got the youngest at home on an inset day today. So I did the weekly shop yesterday so we can do something nice together. Came in £20 under budget. And that I used £6 on a bunch of flowers and £6.50 stocking up on deodorant and conditioner that we don’t need but I buy coz it’s on half price. However I have not meal planned. But we have tons of stuff in to easily last us the week.

Think DS wants to go to the skatepark with his scooter this afternoon because all other schools are in so he’ll have it to himself. Best wrap up warm for that one!

Bornlazy · 24/09/2018 09:33

em happy birthday to your ds 🎂

I bargain hunt for all my DSs clothes but I do buy them branded (and sometimes ludicrously expensive) stuff. They are 15 and 13 and very aware of what everyone else is wearing. When they were younger they got supermarket or next clothes and didn’t care.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 24/09/2018 09:48

Happy 1st birthday to your ds em I seriously can't believe he is 1 already! ! Dd always cries on her bdays as she gets too overwhelmed, I have a photo of her at her 1st bday party crying her eyes out with at least two of her friends joining in 😵 such fun 😂

That's shit wreck it's very disheartening to work hard and still struggle.

Spendy day here as boiler getting serviced, it needs doing pretty winter and will use savings to cover it.

Wolfcub · 24/09/2018 09:51

Em happy first birthday to ds hope you all have a lovely day. For what it’s worth my ds has at far more in savings than I do!

My instant pot should arrive today yay. Probably not in time to cook in it today but I’m planning beef casserole and possibly dumplings tomorrow (or today if it arrives in time)

Payday on Friday can’t come soon enough. I have overspent this month. Some of this on the garden, some on the instant pot. I am owed some expenses from work though which will reduce the overspend but as usual I was doing brilliantly until last week and then all the money I’d squirrelled away over the month has gone. I have a real last week of the month overspending problem. It’s like I deprive myself for three weeks and then get fed up. Need to sort that out.

I have booked a Christmas carol at the theatre for December. Cheapest potential restricted view seats - two of these were the same price as one average one. I have become quite worried about Christmas over the weekend. Making it special for ds on my own, having to do everything on my own, the long expanses of time on our own and selfishly the fact that for the first time in 15 years there will be no presents under the tree for me on Christmas morning which does make me feel really quite sad

Wolf I do that too! I think I’m doing well and get to the week before payday and then suddenly the money disappears. I think with internet banking there can be a bit of a delay with things coming off. I still haven’t mastered keeping track of all my spends on a spreadsheet.

Could you give your ds some money and take him to a shop to let him choose you a Christmas present?
