No idea why how the gritter did it, but it explains why we haven't had one past! My fault for saying they always keep our road open Blush A tractor with a plough on is going passed now and then, so they must have out sourced. But coming from Northumberland side, not Cumbria. We're right on the border, and usually get covered by both counties. Dp didn't get as far as the crash, the farmer was in the road turning cars back.

I have spent the day knitting bunnies. I will post a pic when I have given them eyes and noses. Proper work to finish tonight, but if I can't get it in for tomorrow, I won't get paid for it for 2 weeks.

quiteclean is Raynaulds where your fingers go white and numb? Some of mine do it sometimes, like I cannot get blood into them. I have been taking photos to ask the gp about it. But my hands and feet are notorious for being freezing. My hands get excruciatingly painful when properly cold now. I've been blaming it on getting old! come on spring.

ememem84 · 01/03/2018 20:02

quite yes - Home made. Super easy too. Bake a couple of sweet potatoes remove skins and throw potato into bowl. Add can of black beans chopped garlic chopped red onion cumin and smoked paprika. Mash. Make into burger shapes. Bake for 30 mins. Le yum.

The ruched skirts are great. I’m 5’10 and am rather leggy. But they sit nicely on me. But I am a fan of a short skirt tart

cag stay warm. Hats at bedtime. And dressing gowns. And socks. And blankets. Tons of blankets. When it’s freeeeeezing here (like tonight) I have the bed made up as follows:

Matress, double duvet, king fitted sheet, duvet, a millionblankets. The extra duvet underneath gives added fluffyness and also warmth. Also hot water bottles.

Arggh i remember the days of no real heating (huddled around on egas fire) in our old house cag yes do all em said plus thermos of tea beside bed and definitely hats and socks . We had electric blankets also ..do you have any of those? If not, hotties! .. We are just burning gas totally unfrugally ....Don't care. (but I do have a vest jumper socks and a pashmina/shawl on )

I am officially back at work today (have been on leave all week) but luckily have work laptop here and can get into our office system from home. Our CEO has emailed us all to work at home tomorrow if we can anyway.

Not so much snow laying here so far, but a real killing wind .. but what has laid is freezing hard and I would have 14 miles of rural roads to drive if i did go in tomorrow. .

Dh is here also this week and we did venture out earlier before snow arrived and spent £600 (Shock! on new telly and peripheral stuff..(DH choice & ££)

DH has also spent another £340 this week on a new sideboard unit for lounge and £299 on a 'Serious Readers' standard lamp ( his choice/ his £££ although i think its far,far too much to pay for a lamp).
Lamp was delivered today and yes.its a good lamp you can read by.. Hmm

Then £40 at Pets at Home on cat food . and another £32 in co op on food.. I have made a mahoosive chilli, h/m garlic bread and h/m coleslaw this evening.

Tres, tres, Le yum if I may say so myself.. and enough left so if we get snowed in for a few days we will survive!

WreckTangled · 01/03/2018 20:31

Thanks everyone. I'm having an early night as feeling a bit stressed from it all!

Cag that sucks. Have you got a fire? Lots of layers for you all hope you're ok.

Still reading horror stories of people near by stuck unable to get home. Sad

CremeEggThief · 01/03/2018 20:35

Hey everyone, signing back on and aiming to post daily spends again. £11.05 in Asda, on a few provisions. I have an online Sainsburys delivery booked for tomorrow evening, but I'm doubtful it'll get through. Lots and lots of snow up here!

WreckTangled · 01/03/2018 20:36

Yay creme! Smile

needastrongone · 01/03/2018 20:37

To cheer you all up in this crap weather here's the pony, we let him out in the yard while we mucked outGrin

needastrongone · 01/03/2018 20:44

Bloody brill to have you back creme xx

Moanranger · 01/03/2018 20:46

Well, the boiler conked out yesterday. Engineer arrived 4pm today, explained briefly what to do & left, so DS & I spent 2 hrs in cold & dark taking apart condensate pipe, running boiling water down, taping up joins & lagging pipes. DS brill - many hours on film sets have given him useful bodge skills - gaffer, origin of gaffer tape. Meanwhile, DP mysteriously “unable” to answer phone Angry to come home early and help. So it is mighty frosty around here & I don’t mean weather!
Spends: B & Q kindling £5, Wickes, lagging £6 and £4 on the two coffees I bought whilst staying warm this morning in Costa before plumber arrived.

CremeEggThief · 01/03/2018 20:51

Thanks old friends, Wreck and Need. 🙋

Moanranger · 01/03/2018 20:59

House still freezing (24 hrs without heat will do that). DS gone to pub to watch footie & stay warm. I have a little nest in bedroom with space heater, electric blanket & TV. DP in kitchen ironing. He is allowed to say NOTHING about house temp!

ememem84 · 01/03/2018 20:59

Yo! creme

laksa does the lamp also read to you? IMO that would be worth the £££

Am also in bed. Ds is too. Am le tired. It’s been a busy day doing nothing.

Cagliostro · 01/03/2018 21:27

Thanks folks I feel a bit more human having eaten, not tasty just a shove in the oven lasagne but it was all I could stand up long enough to do and the point is it warmed me up! Ranted in our group chat about it to avoid crying in front of the Caglets. What is it about cold that turns me into a tearful wuss? I don’t have reynauds thank goodness, my BF does and it’s horrible :( she’s a teacher and sometimes has to send the TA out with her class instead. Cold just really flares up my joint pain which has been bad recently anyway. We have all gone to bed early to warm up!

Nope no fire either, it’s a basic ‘new’ build with storage heaters that the LLs refuse to take out even though they don’t even warm up 🤔 and an electric radiator in the bedroom that isn’t much better. I think most council houses have gas supply and therefore actual radiators which will be a huge relief!

On the plus side, the cold has meant we haven’t lost any food. The fridge broke properly yesterday 🙄 it’s been on its last legs for ages though and as had always been the plan we are getting a charity shop one - delivered on Saturday assuming they can get here. It’s a bit bigger than the current one so I’ll be able to start batch cooking yay!

The other positive is that believe it or not today I saw my first actual proper snowflake. As in ❄️ rather than just little blobs of snow. I actually thought DH had got a sequin on him it was such a perfect shape, I was quite awestruck 😳😍

Had the craziest couple of days, giving up typing for now though as Cagletini is too wriggly 😂

AdoraBell · 01/03/2018 22:23

We have proper snow now. Shops closed at 1 and school let pupils with travel issues leave at lunchtime, they’re closed tomorrow. Dogs are not impressed with the snow Grin

Cag no heating? Shock hope you are managing okay with this bloody weather.

Spent £20 in butchers, £5 in bakers £5 on chocolate-had to get change the Big Issue lady- £2.50 on Big Issue and £100 ish on delivery. The Sainsbo’s driver had shorts on Shock

Wolfcub · 01/03/2018 22:31

Cag make sure your head and feet are covered if you have no heating, a hoody or a woolly hat and socks it’s debilitatingly cold. Cold is awful for joint pain, I have arthritis and winter used to be my favourite season, now it just causes me too much discomfort. Home bargains sell the joint heat patches for a few pounds for two, when I’m cold at rugby I stick one on even if I don’t have joint pain to ward it off
School closed again tomorrow, will work in the morning to cover some meetings from home and then log off
Em your burgers sound lush, I might give those a go

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/03/2018 22:38

Cag I picked up a little electric oil heater when I lived at the flat and had really crap storage heaters, its brilliant and heats up a room a treat, I still use it now on cold days!!

We have been in the middle of the storm (South West) and now have about 20cm of snow and its still snowing Shock think it will be impossible to get to work tomos and dds school is shut. Will ring work in the morning and see what they suggest, it might be that I can walk to some local patients.

Have felt stupidly hungry all day and eaten like a pig Blush must have eaten a whole packet of biscuits and just polished off two mini magnums - I blame the weather Wink

The cats are not impressed, I don't think girl cat has been out for a wee all day, boy cat ran out, wee'd and ran back in!!

notmrscookie · 01/03/2018 23:23

Cag .I believe u live near Gatwick in a town beginning with C if so I have a few electric heaters if u want to borrow them Being cold is awful ..mini shop and hopefully OK for weekend. Working Sat and Sunday .need to drive but hoping for volunteers with 4 wheeled drive cars

Unescorted · 01/03/2018 23:37

quite yes Raynaud's is the white finger thing. Not much can be done by the Dr but exercise, avoiding tight things on arms and hands and waving your arms about helps. I get it really badly in my hands and feet. Stress is a trigger too... I get it in summer on baking hot days.

Cag and moan hats and hot water bottles. Our old boiler used to pack up every winter. As we are currently causing the gas shortage I feel your pain.

Creme waves.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/03/2018 06:44

Cag That’s awful. I’ve lived with only two working storage rads & that was bad enough.

Creme yay you’re back ❤️

Still snowed in 😭 I’m so bored. More heavy snow here today.

WreckTangled · 02/03/2018 06:50

Girlie the cold makes you hungry for sure. I haven't looked out the window yet still in bed.

QuiteCleanBandit · 02/03/2018 06:54

Mine is triggered by changes in temperature -sudden cold such as supermarkets is the worst and I have to wear gloves.
I have it in hands, feet, face and nipples Blush
I cant take meds as it makes my BP too low.
Waving my arms about doesnt help just wearing layers and avoiding trigger of cold -I have heated gloves, arm warmers, wrist warmers, silk glove liners.
If it progresses my specialist can give me infusions but hopefully Im not at that point yet .
Air con is the worst - utter misery .
Off to look out and see whats going on and treck to work.
Have a safe one frugaleers.
Should be a NSD

ememem84 · 02/03/2018 07:22

Morning all.

We are almost back to normal here. Schools open today as the snow is pretty much gone. It rained from around 5pm last night and melted a lot of it so it's now lovely and icy but it’s meant to reach 7 degrees today so that should melt off.

I’m meeting a friend this evening for a drink and dinner. Yay! Taking Ds to dh's work at around 5 so he can visit and spend the last half hour or so with his daddy while Mummy goes for wine. Haha!

Ha! Boss emailed me from Hong Kong (he’s on business). He needed to know the name of the restaurant we went to a couple of years ago. Luckily I took pics of the place and found the name.

He also said a colleague has been spouting off about how it’s unfair that I’ve taken all this time off and can just waltz back in. (Must learn to waltz and then make s proper entrance when I go back...). She says it’s discrimination against women who can’t or don’t want kids. She should be entitled to leave too. Apparently if they don’t let her she’s taking it to tribunal.

I’m amazed st her balls. But part of me is in full admiration.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/03/2018 08:11

Wreck Well he’ll sleep well tonight doing that.

Em My jaw is on the floor. Poor tribunal lawyer having to keep a straight face through that.
