Wreck mine might possibly have same idea Grin
Our plan was to cuddle up in bed for a few hours, however dh got them up at 7 it's going to make a long day.

Em is your colleague for real? Doesn't she know the law?

We've got some snow ⛄️

Boss’ personal feelings are the same as mine. Amazed at her and full of admiration. Business hat on and he’s very much “she’s an idiot, we’re ok, let her try”

mammy yes. Yes she is. And no. No she doesn’t. She’s claiming discrimination on the grounds of being a woman and making a choice to not have kids. Apparently “we” (women) should all have the right to months off whether pregnant or not. Not sure I’ve had time “off” if I’m honest. I’ve had time away from the office, and time feeling uncomfortably pregnant, and time pushing baby out and time caring for baby. But time off? Nope. That’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed the time I’ve had. But it has not been the holiday I guess she imagines it is.

By that token men are entitled to paternity too, or they can identify as women and have ml.

ememem84 · 02/03/2018 08:41

And this is where she gets interesting. They’re changing the law here soon so that mothers and fathers can take up to a year off shared leave. So a guy in our office will be taking a few months with his new baby once his wife goes back to work.

I don’t think work are paying him I think the govt will give him £x a week benefits like what I got for Maternity.

It’s “not fair” is the main word used. (Boss sent me the email correspondence...)

I’m interested to see how far she takes it to be honest. Dh reckons one of two things will happen. She will push and push until she either takes to tribunal and loses. And then leaves the job (of her own accord) and will then struggle to find new employment as were a small island and all tribunals are a matter of public record. Or she’ll push push tribunal then stay but won’t get further in her career with us )because no one promotes a troublemaker) so leaves and then doesn’t get another job...

Em she sounds like a real cheeky fucker. I definitely had comments from colleagues along those lines when pregnant but no one actually went down a legal route.

Porridge with Muscavado sugar and cream for breakfast to be eaten whilst I triage my emails. Have a good day all

WreckTangled · 02/03/2018 08:49

We have that law here em. It's great. Your colleague sounds bonkers Grin

Loveabaconsandwich · 02/03/2018 08:53

Shock em

I once had to explain to a colleague that the person working part time so 25 hours a week, did not earn exactly the same as her working 37. She thought part timers got paid the same as full timers, and felt completely hard done by that they had such a good deal. I tried not to laugh at her! She was also very intelligent Hmm

mammymammyIRL · 02/03/2018 09:00

That's amazing maternity leave is definitely not a holiday

ememem84 · 02/03/2018 09:07

Yeah...when we talked (we being hr and me) about my coming back to work and I mentioned part time/reduces hours hr did make it clear I wouldn’t be paid the same. I knew this. Apparently the last person got shitty because she thought she would get paid the same if she dropped to 4 days a week....they said no to this arrangement and she left. Also citing tribunal for them not letting her do flex hours. At this point though the law was such here that they could say no flex. Now they have to consider it. Which they did for me. Still said no but they entertained the discussion. I could have had flex hours if I went non client facing which I didn’t want to do.

ha ha at 'does lamp do the reading for you?' i think it ruddy should at that price.. its not even attractive.. DH said (you'll like this) ' I am just fed up with lamps that just look like lamps'.. Well, there is no arguing with that then!! Grin.

We still have a skimming of snow (about 5cm)which has now frozen hard.. our road not gritted . Boss has rang and said work from home.. luckily i can, pity those that need to go out as care workers etc.

hello creme Good to see you back!

Laska5772 · 02/03/2018 09:09

ememem84 · 02/03/2018 09:28

I wish I got paid the same for part time hours as full time. That would be amazing! I might suggest it at work and see what happens...

Welcome back Creme.

Snow day here. Hope everyone is keeping warm. I am dreading our gas bill!

Laska5772 · 02/03/2018 09:45

em Now that is definitely a non-lamp!! . Is that a special kind only found in CI? i reckon if you put a match to it you'd definitely get enough light to read by for a while..

Ours here really do look like lamps and really that's what i thought they were...

Icant post a photo because i am still in bed!(where i was when boss rang also).. id better get up and log into work I suppose..

Laska5772 · 02/03/2018 09:48

we should have a competition for the best and most frugal non-lamps!

LonelyOversharer · 02/03/2018 09:53

creme lovely to see you back. It's grim up north at the moment isn't it!

em now I have a pair of those lamps stored in the greenhouse. I find them a bit dull tbh, maybe they need brighter bulbs in?

Your colleague is clearly bonkers. Does she think she's off to change the law? Having dc when you have a decent career is a compromise not a free holiday. Ffs.

Both the roads out of our row of houses (all we have is a phone box, so I struggle to call it a village) are blocked. So I cannot get to where dd1 is. I know she's safe and sound at my parents, but I need her! I'm going to go to bits when they go off out into the world. This is clear.

Laska5772 · 02/03/2018 10:07

This one on my side of the bed is apparently a lamp but the matching one on his side is not..
