Cag In difficult spots, we found that ds slept much better with the window open, if you can do it without freezing solid.

MeadowHay · 22/02/2018 18:51

Aaaaaah you are all so chatty Smile. Hope everyone's doing ok, I can't keep up at all. Cag hope baby is feeling better soon, poor little thing.

Need I can barely run five minutes never mind a marathon lol you are amazing!

Did anyone watch the Brit awards last night? I've watched it almost every year since I was about 10, it is an annual tradition that I've got DH into since we got together too.

Today's spends were 90p on a muffin and 60p on a can of Fanta lemon in my work canteen at lunch. Oh bum, I have to pay our rent as well as our SO has run out and now we're on a rolling contract and I don't know how long we will be staying here I don't want to set up another one so will need to remember to pay. So there's another £595 gone....at least it's payday tomorrow.

sirlee66 · 22/02/2018 18:55

Oo great thread! Place marking thank you!

ememem84 · 22/02/2018 19:05

Charcoal toothpaste apparently is the dogs for tooth whitening. Im scared to use it in case my teeth go black.

I’m just going for straightening at present. I use blanx toothpaste.

MSE useful Facebook notification for anyone who travels with another by train on a regular basis : There's a code for 10% off a one-year Two Together Railcard which makes it £27 (norm £30). The two named cardholders get 1/3 off most fares if travelling together: bit.ly/2stvqpX

Moanranger · 22/02/2018 19:22

Catching up myself, been away on business travel 2days, so v low personal spend.
Latest wheeze in hotels, get a flask filled with coffee/tea in the morning, have done this three times this week in three different hotels, and all hotel staff happy to do this.
In last three days£45 on food shopping, £30 on fuel ( £1.15 per L). No drinks, no lunches, 1paper for £1.70
I am getting into this, tho I basically have no choice - I must think positive & embrace this!

Loveabaconsandwich · 22/02/2018 19:28

Bad spends today
£4.70 parking as was running late
£4.50 subway
£16ish on Chinese takeaway

Not a great day. Had to do the meet and great of an ex-colleague. She chatted to me like a long lost friend. Unfortunately she was one of the main causes of a difficult period of work-related stress for me some years ago. She was nasty and vile. I’ve never been the same since Hmm . I was nice but wish I hadn’t been. No one can sack me now, it takes too long to go through the process Grin

On the plus side loads of my current colleagues are being so lovely when they hear I am leaving.

Sorry to hear cagletini is so unwell cag

And grrr to all the misbehaving DCs today.

Loveabaconsandwich · 22/02/2018 19:29

Are you ok lonely?

Bornlazy · 22/02/2018 20:04

Spendy day today, went for lunch with my friend and it was my turn to pay - £22. £15 in M&S and £40 in Morrisons - still have main food shop to do tomorrow 🙈.

Have started doing some baking and can't decide if this is frugal or not as it is being eaten as quickly as I can make it...

Pay day for me today so I am going to transfer £500 into savings account and see how I get on. March is an expensive month for me as I've got three birthdays to buy for and car insurance to renew. Still I can only try.

Cag hope cagletini is over the worst of it.

LonelyOversharer · 22/02/2018 20:07

Oh you lot are lovely, I'm fine. He just really cheeses me off sometimes. Especially with my girls. As they are my girls, and he can't feel the same for them as I do. Yes, he's brought them up for 8 years with me, but I will always take their side (and he can't see why I would, like duh), and when he's being an arse I tell him. He often doesn't see it at the time.

We went round to my parents to do some plumbing, urget trip to B&Q was £16, but no other spends ($7 on the poncho pattern too).

Late home so omelette and chips was super quick. I had cheesy chips with salad cream, just about an all time favourite. The gas tanker came today, so I've a full tank again, just as well as it was -1 coming home before it was dark.

SnugglySnerd · 22/02/2018 20:07

sunny washing powder is better for your machine than liquid and cheaper. A big box lasts us for a few months even as very heavy washing machine users! (Disclaimer we have lovely soft water in Brum so all types of soap and detergent last us a long time!)

Unexpectedly an NSD but largely because I couldn't be bothered to go to the shops tonight. I will have to go tomorrow we need some birthday gifts by the weekend.

Hope she's better soon Cag.

Unescorted · 22/02/2018 20:18

And sit......
Today has been a NSD. Except the just over £5million but that is not mine. Therefore is a good side to being frantically busy.

Lopi wool is lovely. Not as a base layer... that is why marino exists.

Lonely it is so stressful when you have to tiptoe around people you live with. I robs you of down time and is exhausting. My dh used to be like that....he now gets shoved out the door with a bike. Exercise is really good for MH.

I have been shortlisted for the job I applied for last week.

Hope all the cold ridden ones are feeling better.

Wolfcub · 22/02/2018 20:25

Great news Unescorted, well done. Blooming quick sift too.

Dh has sold one of the games I got last year that I don’t like. £24 ish after postage.

Unescorted · 22/02/2018 20:35

We are doing a huge recruitment drive so they have sifting panels. Looking at the diaries of the interviewers It will be end of March before they appoint. One of them has just started following me on Twitter.

Cagliostro · 22/02/2018 20:48

Ooh what game wolf my most recent big purchase was Five Tribes. Haven’t actually played it yet as baby was grizzling when my friends were over so I watched them play instead. I did try it at the UK Games Expo a couple of years back though. Really like what I’ve seen. Plus I have a weakness for nice Meeples :o

Thanks all. I do think she is improving TBF. Not so many coughing fits and slept a bit longer last night although she’s still in with me.

Ordered Chinese which was quite nice although I did try a different thing and didn’t like it. This is why I’m usually a creature of habit :o today has been a total wash out, annoying DCs here too although I know it’s not their fault they’re cooped up indoors and I am feeling less tolerant due to baby being clingy and possible PMT Hmm

Interesting about the washing powder, I’d have thought it was worse due to the clumping (at least, Vanish type stuff seems to) maybe I’ll switch back.

Wolfcub · 22/02/2018 21:02

Cag I’ve sold Catan, it bored me rigid. We have five tribes, really like it.

AdoraBell · 22/02/2018 21:17

Two marathons need Shock bloody well done.

Not everything has arrived in time, so I’ll be using a £45 dress that wouldn’t be my first choice, but it fits. Also a £40 blazer, because it’s too bloody cold to go without.

SnugglySnerd · 22/02/2018 21:20

I read about the washing powder on mumsnet! I'm sure a poster who worked for a detergent company or similar explained it but I've forgotten. Anyway I switched to powder and it is cheaper and we don't get that black stuff in the little tray any more.

Good news on the short list Unescorted.

ememem84 · 22/02/2018 21:28

Frugal news I guess. Maybe.

It doesn’t look like the sale of our flat will go through. Bugger. Too many issues within our building. All resolvable but not within a 2 week period.

So we wait. At least I hadn’t started packing and at least we hadn’t settled on a dream house.

I’m hopeful our buyers may wait though - they really want our flat.

If they don’t - we’ll maybe wait a year.

I’d usually ask you to keep all fingers crossed but I’m going to need a proper miracle on this one.

needastrongone · 22/02/2018 22:32

Evening.

Ha, thank you. I love running, the first marathon will help me build for the second. Human bodies can take much more than you think they can, we were literally born to run in some respects Smile

Hope the funeral goes okay adora

meadow I watched the Brits too! I quite liked Stormsy's set at the end. What did you think? I also liked that Rita Ora was not stick thin, great role model there.

born, I'm the same re baking, im not so sure it's frugal. Buying the ingredients and the rate it gets eaten make it less economical, I see what you mean.

Fingers crossed for the flat em, how you feeling about it all?

I use own brand washing powder and fabric conditioner. I don't use fabric conditioner either on all washes.

Bless your little Dd cag, those first few years are hard for their little immune systems aren't they?

That can't have been easy love, hope you are okay. I would have done the same, kept quiet, most of us would.

moan, that's a great tip about the flask. I'll tell DH.

DH is off to London tomorrow, last minute thing.

Great training tonight for dd and pony. Another night stood in the cold for me...Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/02/2018 06:21

Ah that's disappointing em. Hope your buyers hang on.

Hope people and DC are feeling better. Not too bad here

How's the skip filling going lonely? Can you see a difference yet?

ememem84 · 23/02/2018 07:29

need strangely I’m feeling calm about it all. There is nothing we can do. We need someone to be the building manager (a new one was appointed but she doesn’t feel she can do the job and so isn’t, but isn’t appointing anyone new quickly), and apparently (according to new building managers husband) we can’t sell until a fire certificate (required by law) is awarded to our building. This could take 10 months. But the application has gone in so it’s up to our buyers lawyers to decide if they’re happy with this.

I hope our buyers wait but they may not. If they don’t its not a major issue. We won’t lose out on a new house as we haven’t got anything lined up, and can stay here. Benefit of staying is that we can pay off more of the mortgage so when we do sell will be in a better position financially.

Dentist today. Then ds and I are visiting my work. I have some paperwork to sign and apparently everyone needs cuddles. 😀

WreckTangled · 23/02/2018 07:43

I use washing powder too. The gel/liquid makes the machine all scummy and it's cheaper to use powder.

No work today and I have nothing planned! I'm not even wearing make up Grin need to order for stuff and sort out the electricity tariff. Will have a big clean and then...maybe a nap Wink

WreckTangled · 23/02/2018 07:44

Oh and pay day so will move money into joint account and pay childcare for the next month.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/02/2018 07:49

I really admire your attitude Em, obviously the universe has decided it is not the time to move. When it is everything will go nicely.

Need Did your water board ever reply to you?.

Girlie I'm trying the bicarb out daily now.

If anyone's looking for YouTube workouts I've been using Xhit, really good, short workouts. I like Rebecca Louise's routines. Dh also likes Rebecca Louise 🙄 I've told him their implants.
