Morning morning all☀️☀️😎

Hoping for another NSD.

Does anyone have any tips on cutting down lec use?? turning the broadband box off at night or timers??

Does anyone use timers??

Loveabaconsandwich · 05/08/2017 07:39

wheely DP's new thing to buy is smart plugs. I think they turn things on and off on timers that you can set up from your phone. I haven't paid that much attention to be honest but I think they are costly but he insists he is buying great deals off Amazon!

Loveabaconsandwich · 05/08/2017 07:45

Think today I will take DD1 to buy her new school shoes in clarks. I also really need a new pair of dull, functional, comfortable shoes for work. If there are problems with my connecting train I need to be able to do a 30 minute walk at pace. So (as clarks sometimes do) if they offer 20% off an adult pair I will get new shoes too. My old pair were past their best about three months ago.

ememem84 · 05/08/2017 08:09

The sun is out today?!! Hooray!!

Were going to do tidying up. Then dinner at yum portuguese restaurant later then a birthday party.

I'm also thinking of going up to the stables for a pony snuggle.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2017 08:19

mammymammyIRL · 05/08/2017 09:34

Sorry to hear some of the frugaleers are ill BrewFlowers

Having baked French toast for brekkie le yum

Spends yesterday €5 on lunch out with my work bestie. But frugal win there thought I'd have a can of something 330ml can €1.10 440ml can €1 Grin everything else regular weekly expenses.

An AIBU - au pair accidentally pranged my car (as in backed into it with the one we supply her with!) when she was in a temper one eve in Jan/Feb. Has never asked what it cost to fix. I got bill two weeks ago €200. She's away now for 3 weeks, I mentioned yesterday that I must pay garage for fixing it, she never offered anything. Dh thinks we should pay as our life runs very smoothly with her here. Initially I thought actions have consequences & she should pay it all. On one hand it would be a very costly €200 if we were to lose here but I still think she should have to pay something HmmShock

Saving into summer!
mammymammyIRL · 05/08/2017 10:03

Enjoy wedding holly
Dd has a friend over for the morning. I'm going to fill bags for charity shop & paperwork for shredding & recycling. Some stuff will go to my friend who recently had a baby.

Also miss collie

I've just four more working days until my holidays & starting 45-60 mins later to accommodate babysitting Grin

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/08/2017 10:31

We managed a frugal success. I've been paying an online company for a website that teaches breathing exercises, which have been working really well for me. They just said my initial trial had finished and they wanted to charge me £20 a month to keep going.

Dh instead has rigged up my own system on my own in-house website so I can keep doing the exercises for free. Yay!

mammymammyIRL · 05/08/2017 10:33

Posting as I catch up Smile
North where are ye off to on holidays ?

Smart plugs sound interesting

Em dh must have baby brain to forget you like that Smile cool trick with cat face.
Dhs friends gave us a load of cat food as their cat died.

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/08/2017 10:47

We are borrowing all our neighbour's pets this holiday. We had one cat to feed for a week, then two cats for a week, and now we have four chickens and a cat for a week. It's amazing the variety of things that these cats are fed. I like the Iams one best as it is non-smelly and not squooshy like whiskas so is easy to clean. There seems to be quite a lot of variety between cats too. I hadn't really realised.

WreckTangled · 05/08/2017 11:00

I have a throat infection and a weeks worth of antibiotics. Hope they kick in soon!

thewaitresses · 05/08/2017 11:10

Get well soon wreck and Fluffy Flowers

Sunny that sounds impressively geeky 🤓!

Mammy that's a real toughy...my gut is to say let it go, it happened a while ago and she hasn't had any other accidental outbursts since - perhaps she has taken the consequences on board? Also I'm one for an easy life and if asking for the money would likely cause tension then would leave it. However, as it did happen a while ago and it's still annoying you then I think tension may be caused anyway. How about asking for a contribution towards the cost?

It's actually sunny here today and we have no plans - I really think a LSW may be possible!

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/08/2017 11:16

Thanks thewaitress, we like to try to look geeky if at all possible. Ds had started choosing his own clothes and is recreating geek clothing culture from scratch, which make me laugh. I showed him how to wear a t-shirt over a long-sleeved top to look cool, and he has adapted the style by wearing his school thermal vest over a sweatshirt. Classy.

mammymammyIRL · 05/08/2017 11:22

Brilliant frugal success sunny

Girlie think those Toyota aygo are cute, perfect for you & dd and toyotas don't give any trouble. I bought a 05 Corolla verso in Feb 12 in those 5 years all I've replaced is one cv joint Smile au pair drives it now and we'll keep it until we don't have an au pair anymore as it's 7 seater so handy to have.
It's disappointing to have to replace after putting money into your own recently but it's a good decision. 0% credit card for a car sounds amazing, our market in Ireland isn't that big unfortunately for cc's!!

Laska I'm similar I'm happy with my online friends & a few good real ones, you put in the effort & then left them to it, best of both worlds I'd say Grin.

I'm gone teetotal since last sat night for two months, don't drink much but I want to see if it'll boost my weight loss further. I read that when your body is clearing out alcohol it can't work on fat loss at all, which means losing maybe 24-36 hours of that every time I drink along with poor food choices so giving myself my best chance.

I've got stock from a ham after cooking it in slow cooker yesterday, will it be ok for soup. Glazed ham with a yellow sticker gourmet glaze I bought weeks ago Smile

Fridge I was always a frequent poster & lately that's slipped but that's life & no one expects people to remember everyone & everything. Just do what works for you.

Sorry not going back any further on thread but promise to keep up from here Confused

mammymammyIRL · 05/08/2017 11:38

Waitress she said at the time she'd pay to get it fixed. I got it fixed & she never mentioned it since. I'm ok with letting things lie but fact that it wasn't acknowledged irks me somewhat

MeadowHay · 05/08/2017 11:40

Ahhh you guys are so chatty atm!! I can't hardly keep up.

Had a disappointing morning as got up early and ready and stuff despite feeling tired, nauseous, and anxious, went into town for a union meeting and then only like two other people turned up so we all went home again. Really annoyed at all the people who didn't bother to send apologies as we would have just cancelled it if we had known, and we had to pay for the room hire still and everything, and I could have just stayed in bed longer and not suffered so much grrrrrr. Angry

Anyway back home now feeling sorry for myself. Today should be NSD really.

Get well soon wreck and fluffy. My tummy is feeling a bit weird too and I have nausea, this often means I'm about to get a migraine, I really hope not D:

Em I want pony snuggles!! I will have to have guinea pig snuggles instead. Smile

Holly Enjoy the wedding. I love weddings. Went to two last summer but none this year Sad.

ememem84 · 05/08/2017 14:44

Such a lovely morning. Went to the stables and had pony snuggles. Helped tack up, saw my riding buddies, they backed out so I walked with them (and jogged along as they trotted) then came back and sat in the sun while they continued the lesson in the sandschool.

So lovely. Forgot how much I missed it. The smell of the ponies and the stables. Absolutely intoxicating. 🐎🐴😀❤️

Also according to mapmywalk I walked/jogged almost 6k this morning. Going to need a nap later!! Feeling so good though for getting out and doing something!!! Hooray for sunshine and fresh air and ponies!

Came home and dh has cleaned everything in the kitchen. Yay! Humous on toast with tomatoes for lunch and a lovely cup of tea.

meadow you know guinnea pigs are my weakness. Bloody love them!! (I put in the Channel Islands guinnea pig rescue as my charity choice at work last year - and it got chosen as one of our two charities to support!!! Yay!!!)

I also have a calendar on my desk at work with guinnea pig Olympics. Some of those piggies are super sporty! Haha!

WreckTangled · 05/08/2017 15:34

Massive thunderstorm here

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 05/08/2017 16:03

Mammy thats tough one with the au pair, hmm not sure tbh I think I would be tempted to ask her for half though....

I have put a deposit down on the car Shock eek, seemed a tidy enough car, went fine and they will give me £950 for my shit heap old car!! Was happy with that, so can just about afford it with savings and over draft although that will completely clear me out. Bit scary but seems a better idea than getting into debt is I don't absolutely have to, that said if anything else crops up I'm screwed Hmm The deposit was £200.

Also spent £57 in Morrisons on food to take camping next week, bought lots of crap that I wouldn't normally get but in theory will save on buying snacks etc.

Just need to start gathering all the gear for camping up now but have run out of steam!!

WreckTangled · 05/08/2017 16:15

Well done girlie it's great you could afford it without getting into debt. You're so good at saving you'll have a buffer built back up in no time, especially as you won't have all those unexpected car costs.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/08/2017 16:17

£25 soft play and drinks. All back to ours for lunch.
Ds wants MCD for tea, we will most likely have takeout
