How's DGS doing?

I had a good day, a friend took DD to a home ed trip as I wasn't well enough, I stayed home with DS and rested and played some board games. Frugal fun both in monetary and energy costs for me :o

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 20/06/2017 21:56

Hi all, yes still very hot here as well. I'm tired from not sleeping well and waking up due to the heat i'm hoping I'm making money on the solar panels though Wink

Yes Meadow it is hot but fortunately the powers that be have let us wear a 'summer uniform' which consists of black shorts and a white polo t.shirt, it looks quite ridiculous but I don't care as its better than the alternative!!

Spent £1.20 on a drink as the water in my car was ridiculously hot.

Popped into the garage as my front indicator light had gone and they fixed it for free which made me happy Grin

I have £31 in my account to last till payday - next Tuesday!!

ememem84 · 20/06/2017 22:19

Trying to think of a nice cooking outfit for work tomorrow. So far I've got pants and that's it.

I want to complain about the heat but am afraid it'll go away...! 🌞🌞🌞

£89 at shops this evening. Enough food for a couple of weeks. Probably.

Dd1 got second place, which was ace. We had a good time too, drove down over the Kirkstone pass, so very scenic! Very hot when we'd finished, hot diet coke is yak and very fizzy, so we stopped at the services and had a costa 'over ice' so so amazing! £6.50 for 2 though. Tescos for dd1 choice of tea, and top up £19.

Ran dogs 5 miles, which is the coolest I've been all day. Now working as I am so behind from a busy weekend etc.

mammymammyIRL · 20/06/2017 22:41

Anyone got thunder where they are? Last 5 mins it's been rumbling here Sad
Lonely I read your post about the snake that went missing and googled corn snakes, I felt sick to my stomach after! Didn't realise that I felt like that about them.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/06/2017 06:11

No thunder but it is raining. I think it's forecast later.

I love driving kirkstone pass.

Sorry about dh aunt em. Possibly you might need more than pants.

Where are need and crème? Word is guns and roses was awesome, hope crème hasn't run away with the band. wish I had gone to the gig.

WreckTangled · 21/06/2017 06:50

Another hot day forecast here. Dd has forest school and swimming.

I need petrol. Otherwise no planned spends maybe parking.

ememem84 · 21/06/2017 07:17

life the gig looked amazing didn't it? I'm not a huge g&r fan but god it looked good!

Set to hit 34 degrees today and then 26 for the rest of the week much more manageable. We're off to the beach after work for a BBQ and a swim.

I may treat myself to some sort of frozen drink at lunchtime.

Might buy insect repellent today as midges were out in force last night, dh gets destroyed by them and he needs to go to the bog next week Grin#caringwifeGrin

Spent €57 on diesel on Mon eve on my fuel card, so will need to pay that in approx 2 weeks. I get 2c off per litre and deferred payment - win win Grin

Registered dd for summercamp last night, so must pay €45 this week for that also.

SnugglySnerd · 21/06/2017 07:54

No thunder here but it's forecast for later. Hope so I love thunder!

SunnyLikeThursday · 21/06/2017 09:26

My frantic week has come to a bit of a stop today, which is a relief. Everything seems so busy at the moment.

It's hot here but not as hot as a couple of days ago, so just quite nice really.

I hope all is going well there.

Taytocrisps · 21/06/2017 09:35

Hi folks, sorry I've been awol. Work was busy in the run up to my holidays and then I had a busy weekend with other commitments.

The weather's been fab here and we had a record three barbecues in a week Shock. Met Eireann issued a weather warning for today (28 degrees) but it's raining this morning so I guess that's the end of the the heatwave.

MIL and FIL called up yesterday to help DH with some outdoor stuff - painting the shed and power washing the driveway etc. When DD got home from school, we had a barbecue and ice creams and sat out chatting for a while.

DD is finishing primary school next week (how did that happen?) so she has a graduation mass this afternoon and then a brief ceremony at the school where they'll be presented with a certificate. She has warned me not to clap loudly or cheer or do anything that might embarrass her in front of her friends Grin.

Off to Paris tomorrow for a few days. DD is very excited about our day trip to Disneyland Paris. And (to a lesser extent) seeing landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe etc.

It hasn't been a particularly frugal few weeks as I had to buy some summer clothes for both DD and I. It's very hot in Paris atm - we didn't plan that very well. Anyway, the new clothes came in handy when the heatwave hit unexpectedly.

When we get back from Paris, I'll be back on the frugal bandwagon.

I was very shocked and sad to hear about the terrible fire at Grenfell Tower in London. Devastating for all concerned - the victims. the families and friends of those who died, the survivors, the emergency services etc. If the investigation proves that the cladding used was responsible for the rapid spread of the fire, I hope it's removed promptly from other buildings.

Hope all is well with you frugaleers and the pregnant ladies aren't suffering too much in the heat.

100yearsdotcom · 21/06/2017 09:59

I think it must be the season for being busy sunny! I've been trying to keep up with the thread but absolutely crazy busy this week, will probably get a break on Saturday but then all next week and weekend will be busy and non-stop. I'm getting to the point where I just want to chill out with my baby really - I feel like she's already changing so fast but there's so much distracting us from just being able to enjoy her :(

100yearsdotcom · 21/06/2017 10:08

Spends - NSD Sunday, £2 for baby group on Monday, £4.50 taxi to get back from appointment on Tuesday. Today should be a NSD but tomorrow will be spendy as I have my food/household shop for the week and there's lots of staples that we've run out of including cat litter.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/06/2017 10:27

Day off today which is lovely, got a friend and her toddler turning up in a min. Have caught up on house work (ish) one lot of washing on the line and another in the machine. Making the most of the sun!!

My mum managed to kill off an orchid she was given so I used the bark chip to re pot mine which is looking lovely! Frugal win as the bark chip is not cheap to buy.

Don't think I will go far today so all being well a NSD.

Cagliostro · 21/06/2017 11:34

Aah well done Lonely's DD! Great result with the contest :)

Home alone for the day as DH has taken the Caglets swimming, then DD has gym. Kind of annoyed I've caught up on all the telly I'm watching (eat well for less, the loch, fearless, paula...)

Coppersulphate · 21/06/2017 11:54

Well done Lonely's DD.That's amazing.
Cag, DGS is doing really well. I am looking after him for a few days while DD and DSiL have a much needed night away and rest. DGD is on a short school residential.
I'm in London and it is bloody hot. DGS just been sick and I think it's the heat

mammymammyIRL · 21/06/2017 12:55

tayto have a fab holiday Envy
copper lots of cuddles with your dgs x

ememem84 · 21/06/2017 13:01

We have a sea breeze!!!! It's lush.

Couldn't find a frozen drink for lunch 😩 I was after a frozen Fanta or Coke and knew I'd last had one from Burger King in New Zealand so thought they might do them here. I could have had an Oreo one but wanted something a bit less creamy.

Settled for regular Fanta instead. Mmm.

Spends today £1.99 cat soup for catface. crazy cat mummy alert

Also. Sods bloody law. We gave notice to our estate agent on Monday. I've spent most of the morning turning down offers for us to view places from other agents. At lunchtime my phone rings and our agent has an offer from a cash buyer £21k off the asking price. I said no but if he can come within £2k of the asking price we'll talk. Given we'd then have to find somewhere to live before baby it needs to really be worth our while. Sods bloody law right? Stop looking and things happen. Maybe.

Also - my new niece/nephew is arriving hopefully today. Sil went into hospital weds evening nz time. That's the last we heard. Eeeeeeeek. I am excited!!!! Sad that I won't get to meet him/her in person for a while but exciting none the less. I've never been an auntie before!!!

Hello all! Just a quick hi before I go back and rtft. Busy and hot here. I have been writing down every spend though. Probably in full truth for the first time ever (you know like when you don't write down the pint of milk as the money came from the loose change pot or you forget to write down a kindle book as it doesn't really feel like spending money!) and I am Shock.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/06/2017 14:59

I did that when I started, £60 a month on parking to go to the bank & sandwiches for lunch.

Cagliostro · 21/06/2017 15:09

It's totally crazy when you realise exactly where the money goes! It adds up a lot more than we think

mammymammyIRL · 21/06/2017 15:40

WOW fluffy you're so frugal now it's hard to believe there was a time when you flittered money away like that ShockGrinShock

SnugglySnerd · 21/06/2017 15:42

I need to get back to writing down every spend. I've been a bit careless with money lately.
My consignment of bras arrived today. Depending on whether some or any of them fit most will be returned. It would be so much easier to go and try loads on in the shop if it were not for having 3 kids in tow.

Just had a gigantic spider in the house. I am really scared of them but managed to catch it in a glass and release it into the garden whilst telling DD how lovely it was and how spiders are our friends lying through my teeth This was an hour ago and I still feel sick and slightly shaky.

SunnyLikeThursday · 21/06/2017 16:21

Well done snuggly. It's definitely a weird part of being grown-up when we need to pretend stuff is no longer scary.

We're sort of languishing around in the heat here, and I'm enjoying the massive drop in the grocery bill. We don't need to eat nearly so much in this heat. I wonder if it would be cheaper to heat the house to 28 degrees in winter and just eat much less food? (joke)
