laksa I think we clean out fridge every year or so. I mean proper clean it. We don't tend to hoard food in it. Generally we buy what we need. Except I need ice lollies. Or nice fruit. Or yoghurt. And dh didn't donanfood shop last week. He's doing one tomorrow. Yay!

I've decided I like pineapple juice to drink. Mm. With lemonade/sparkling water and a bit of mint.

Sad news here. Dhs aunt died today. It was expected. and if I'm honest she wasn't always the nicest of people but still. Sad for her husband and kids.

Well, today was a bit umm. Spent £25 in sainsburys on lunch and cream cakes. Dd2 cried when she saw her 'cake' she cried wierdly I knew she would. Not happy tears, more my mum hasn't bothered to bake me a cake tears. She has a lot going on just now, but I'm gutted she cried. We've hugged a lot, and its all good, but by god, parenting is hard sometimes!

Spent gasp £337 in the opticians. Fucking hell. Dp needs reading glasses, his are £177. I will get this back, he just didn't have the money there and then, so my overdraft took it. My prescription has gone up a bit, and I picked a nice I think they're nice pair of Joules pink plastic frames. Loads less than dp's and I'll wear mine all the time. Sigh. No ladies Oakleys even though they are a dealer. Ho hum.

Would never open the loft hatch. I have seen the size of the spiders up there and rat poo and there was that snake that escaped...

Laska5772 · 19/06/2017 22:43

I give you Hong Kong sweet and sour chicken.. given to me by a lovely Chinese-Asian Mnetter on another threa da couple of years ago! Its easy and so yummy.. and like the 'real thing!' . (I use dry sherry instead of Chinese wine.. Havemade it loads and everyone loves it ..).

These are her words ..

Sweet and sour chicken (or pork)

  1. Cut chicken into cubes (tend to use chicken breast, about 1/person or whatever you usually have) about 1inch cubes
  2. Marinade with 2tsp salt, some pepper, 2tbsp Chinese wine, 2tsp sesame oil, 1tbsp cornflour. Leave for an hour. If you use pork, use pork belly, and add some minced ginger.
  3. Get ready the oil for frying. Beat one egg and mix into meat. In another bowl, get ready some plain flour for coating. Move the meat one by one into the plain flour bowl. Fry it. 3-4 min till it turns brown.

Sauce
1 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar in a pot. Add 4 tbsp of ketchup. 4 tbsp of rice vinegar (if you don't have that, use white wine vinegar), 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce/HP sauce. 1/2 cube of chicken stock, or 1tsp of chicken stock powder. Boil. If you want to add the pineapple juice from the tin, do so.

Green peppers, onions, cucumber (I use 1 each). 1/2 tin of pineapple. Fry pineapple cubes till it caramelises (1 min), add all veg chopped up. Add sauce. Add fried chicken. Stir. Serve.

Sounds long winded, but it really isn't.

Absolutely yummy. Very much like the genuine takeaway sort, and very much like the stuff we get back home. It is what the Chinese takeaways will refer to as the Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken.

She is right.. Mmmm! Smile

Laska5772 · 19/06/2017 22:49

Sorry,...SNAKE Lonely ??????!!!! Shock

Coppersulphate · 19/06/2017 22:57

I was in Worsester today and came out to my car at 6.30 to come home and the car thermometer read 35degrees. Far too hot for me. And I was wearing a beesuit and wellies.
I know there is a minimum temperature for it to be safe for working but is there a maximum one. There should be.
Holiday sounds fab Fluffy and I am envious of all your matched betting. How much have you made so far?
Lovely cat pics

Coppersulphate · 19/06/2017 23:01

Lonely, where's the snake?

Cagliostro · 19/06/2017 23:15

I'm assuming that's a pet snake :o bloody love snakes. Only slightly pipped at the post by lizards (geckos especially, but I do like a skink)

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/06/2017 06:12

Summer is over or s o it looks this morning. Thank god I'm shattered with lack of sleep. I have a bumble bee I can't get out of my roof window too. Poor thing it's not taking the hint from a lower open window.

Nsd planned today.

Sorry but snake ugh.

mammymammyIRL · 20/06/2017 06:33

Yep I'm ok laska just sunburnt Smile

WreckTangled · 20/06/2017 06:44

It's going to be another boiling day today and I have conflict resolution training. Oh joy.

ememem84 · 20/06/2017 07:55

Not quite as sunny here today. But hotter than yesterday apparently. Ick.

Meeting a friend for lunch - just pack up lunches in the park.

Food shop tonight. May throw myself in the freezer cabinet with all the lovely chilled goods. 😂

LonelyOversharer · 20/06/2017 09:22

Yes, a baby pure white corn snake, it escaped from dd1's room about 3 years ago it was me who left the lid unlocked we never found it. So it's either in the loft, 6 foot long and living on the spiders and, um, other visitors, or it died pretty quickly. We never found a skeleton, and we have changed all the upstairs floorboards since (woodworm anyone?). For those who don't know, we have 5 other snakes!

Hot again today. It turns out dd1 won a textiles competition, and today I have to take her down to Windemere school for the next round. Great for dd1, but 3 hours round trip in the little car, with no air conditioning!

Keep cool today everyone. How are you feeling seacow ? Dd must be nearly ready now...

ChristmasSeacow · 20/06/2017 10:30

I am very hot thanks Lonely and eating a lot of ice lollies. Waitrose real fruit ones were on offer yesterday and they are very fruity - the raspberry one is like a frozen smoothie, so delicious. Can't much be bothered with real food.

It is still hot here today but not quite as sunny, which might help with the house heating up less

I don't mind looking at a snake behind glass but I don't especially want to encounter one directly. That said, it would eat the loft rats which would be a bonus!

ememem84 · 20/06/2017 11:02

Hm snakes. Not keen...not sure I'd want one in my house though.

That said I do enjoy the huge pythons at the zoo here. I've seen one climb up the glass in its enclosure. It's head was taller than my dad (6'5). We watched it muscle its way up. Some serious power there.

I'd much rather be around a loose big snake like that I think than a small one. At least with a python or a boa a) not venomous and b) you can see them.

Spiders however are another matter. Ick.

Bil lives in Aussie in Perth. afaik everything in Aussie is there for the purposes of killing you.

£150 in a month Copper. I struggle with it though because it's so boring. Others are making £1k a month. I've earnt £23 today, or I will when ascot starts later.

I'm not touching it yet though, I won't until I've done all my new account offers.

£29 shoes, loved them at £75 but love them more now. It's shoeaholics so they'll probably have to go back.

Loveabaconsandwich · 20/06/2017 12:45

31 degrees here and due to be 32 degrees at afternoon school pick up time. I may melt. Not meant to get cooler until Friday here (22 degrees)

Spent £48 in Tesco

On the plus side our current account is looking the healthiest it's been since our £900 plumber bill. It must be the frugaleering! DP seems to be catching on. We got a 60% off sky offer through but it finally clicked with DP that although we could save 60% we could save even more by not having it at all! Shock

mammymammyIRL · 20/06/2017 14:35

I'm not up to date on this thread and more worryingly I'm a few weeks behind in my YNAB other than automated expenses, but, I do have all my receipts so I'll figure most stuff out.

Just read this article There is no such thing as a normal month

MeadowHay · 20/06/2017 14:46

Hi everyone. Did my first little shift on reception today, it was ok, but I ran out of work to do and sat reading articles online. Boring but eh, I was getting paid to do it. My manager said they usually spend 5 days training reception staff and I got a 30 minute crash course! Campus is dead though atm.

Sorry to hear about DH's aunt Em. Flowers

NSD here and I earned money at work innit so net gain.

It's not as hot here today. The flat thermometer says 25 degrees which feels a lot cooler than yesterday's 27-28 degrees. I like it like this but after 25 it gets uncomfortable I think.

Girlie The other day two ward nurses at the hospital DH works at fainted from heat exhaustion! It made me think of you. DH is based in A&E where there is air con but does transfers to the wards and things were there is none. So the poor staff stationed permanently at the wards have been really struggling. Sad

WreckTangled · 20/06/2017 16:57

It was 30 degrees in the office today. Bleurgh.

My feet are huge, obviously in sympathy with seacow Wink

Dd has forest school tomorrow and has to wear a long sleeved top and trousers Hmm

£10 in waitrose on tomatoes, strawberries, spring onions, ice lollies and three bottles of pimms cider.

£4.50 petrol.

My expenses claim is set to be £700 by the time I put it in at the end of next week.

mammymammyIRL · 20/06/2017 17:53

Wow wreck how are you managing to pay those expenses on credit or out of your own money?

It's 24 deg here at the moment & I'm going to bootcamp in an hour Hmm

€165 in Aldi yesterday €18 at butchers today. Think I need to do a good stocktake groceries have really risen lately.

WreckTangled · 20/06/2017 17:59

With great difficulty mammy! Obviously the mileage I claim is more than the petrol costs.

SnugglySnerd · 20/06/2017 18:39

Sorry about dh's aunt, Em. Is she UK based or over in NZ?

Low spend day today just bought some fruit. Had a really lovely day though. Found a very easy way to entertain all 3 kids this afternoon. I put the babies in the garden in their bouncy chairs and stood behind them blowing bubbles over their heads which they enjoyed watching and big DD enjoyed chasing all over the garden and popping. Everyone happy at very little cost or effort for me!

ememem84 · 20/06/2017 18:53

snuggly jersey based so there'll be a funeral we'll have to go to. She died at home and had been ill with some sort of lung disease and then cancer for at least the last year so apparently there'll be an inquest etc.

Dh sent flowers today.

Fluffy, all that free money a month is amazing. Surely someone must be losing a lot. I can't see how it would work.
Down in London today minding DGS.
Sorry about DH's aunt Em.
Sea cow, when are you due. Any day now???
I love snakes but not sure I could have them in the house.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/06/2017 21:36

I don't understand it either. I do what the website says to do.
