In other news I've made £81 selling stuff and still have my CDs to send of so more to add on. I need a box from work next week though

Wolfcub · 25/02/2016 18:31

I'm having a fruflu relapse. Feel shocking again. Ocado delivery coming tonight as the cupboards are bare. Monthly shopping with does not work when people are poorly and can't be bothered to cook. We've had too many takeaways this month

Ememem84 · 25/02/2016 18:32

Just back from the gym. So many abs workouts. I am going to hurt tomorrow. Sad

Dh has pulled a blinder today. He was shopping at lunchtime. And was buying stuff in boots despite the fact that I went the other day he noted that ysl had an offer day. And bought me a mascara. In plum. I haven't used this for ages. And loved it. But at full price is just ridiculously extravagant. So he is waaaaay back in the good books. Nice treat.

Pasta and homemade pesto for dinner.

One of my eBay buyers still hasn't paid so am going to have to follow up with that.

babsmam · 25/02/2016 18:39

Ah that's nice em.
Get well soon wolf

WreckTangled · 25/02/2016 18:48

Wolf hope so feel better. I agree it's hard when you're ill!

Em that's so sweet my dh would never do anything like that because he can barely remember what day it is most of the time let alone what mascara I use Grin

I'm so bored of auto trader. Still can't find a car I like.

babsmam · 25/02/2016 18:51

Do you have a short list for cars wreck?

WreckTangled · 25/02/2016 19:02

Just one that I can afford which isn't generally reserved for the over sixties (no offence to anyone over sixty) or those who have just passed their tests Grin all the ones coming up are nissans, Hyundai, fiat pandas etc. I don't want anything too small in the back either as obviously the dc will be 11 and 8 when we finish paying it off Shock

Pointlessfan · 25/02/2016 19:17

Well done Em's DH, I don't think mine would even venture into Boots let alone remember something like that!
wolf I'm having a fruflu relapse too, I just can't shift it.

Ememem84 · 25/02/2016 19:20

wreck have you looked at ford? We bought a fiesta in 2010. It's still going great!

Sorry for all of you who have relapsed into fruflu.

BumpPower · 25/02/2016 19:23

Delurking here... This is my first week on maternity awaiting DC2 all scary especially as DH was made redundant in June so it's a bit squeaky bum money wise!
Was going to say nsd but DH just asked to borrow a £5... Still not too bad!
I think I've got lots of frugal bases covered: shop in Aldi/market/butchers
Batch cook, meal plan and have a chest freezer
Take a thermos and packed lunch with me when I go out...
View the library as an entertainment venue!
Use voucher cloud etc
I notice someone mentioned reep rewards app... Is that worthwhile?
Any other golden rules I'll need?

babsmam · 25/02/2016 19:27

Hi bump.
Wreck, car hunting is frustrating.

WreckTangled · 25/02/2016 19:28

Em not a single ford in our price range! It's looking like it might be a 207 I prefer the 208 but we have to be sensible with the money we have

Pointlessfan · 25/02/2016 19:34

Welcome bump, sounds like you've made a great start to frugalling!

needastrongone · 25/02/2016 19:41

Hi Bump, maybe check your direct debits? Have a cull if you can, any charity payments or DD's that you don't need. Review utilities and TV or phone deals to see where you can save, I've saved a lot in this regard.

Anything that you can Ebay or put on a Facebook selling site?

Em I have never mentioned on here (for obvious reasons) that DH had an eternity ring specially made for me for Christmas, he chose the stones and had it designed by a friend who is a bespoke jeweller. Hid it within the Christmas tree. Completely and stunningly unfrugal, but lovely. DH's can be lovely and unfrugal at the same time Smile

wreck Toyota's are good value.

Good Ebay selling babs

Hope you feel better soon Wolf

WreckTangled · 25/02/2016 19:48

Wow need that's so lovely! No toyotas either!

JeepersMcoy · 25/02/2016 19:49

Ah, here you all are!

I had completely fallen off the last thead as I had the most wretched flu thing over the weekend and have only just recovered enough to even think about anything.

Pay day on Monday and things aren't looking too bad. I have spent way too much on lunches at work this month and o have a pile of train tickets I need to claim back on expenses. Must do that tomorrow!

needastrongone · 25/02/2016 20:01

Here's a picture. My DH is a great soft unfrugal lump. He would argue that's why he's worked 70 hours a week for 15 yearsSmile

Frugaleers March On!
fuzzpig · 25/02/2016 20:05

Delurking (65 posts already?!) with a mini rant! Although a much more lighthearted one than my usual!

Amazon are such fibbers. I've been watching a toy for a long time and knew the retail price etc (but was holding out for a good price). It went on lightning deal and you know how they cross out the RRP so you see how much you save - well it was a BLATANT lie to say it was worth £54 FFS (it's actually about £35) - deal price was still really good so that's DS' main birthday present sorted, but still, it bugs me so much that retailers can lie and manipulate like that Hmm

And thank you folks Thanks I'm feeling a fair bit better compared to earlier this week but very glad we have nothing on tomorrow.

Lilac the room reorganising went really well, needless to say I didn't do anything heavy myself. We've now moved the spare storage into the living room, which is housing all our home ed supplies :) and the DCs' room is so much more streamlined. Just need to put up a toy hammock and move the bookcase back downstairs (so we have all home ed stuff in one room - we have a huge amount of non-fiction; all the picture/chapter books are staying in their room) and then it'll be done :)

In other news I got recommended by the mum of one of my pupils! I was approached about lessons by one of their friends, and when I'm well enough I'll have two more students. :) :)

MaryMarigold · 25/02/2016 20:06

Hi Frugaleers

Delurking here too.

DH and I are not high earners but should be more comfortable than we are tbh. Have done all the tricks with direct debits etc and can't get our expenditure any lower. Mortgage is biggest issue as we are on a very high rate of interest and have no way of re-financing due to credit rating.

Have recently consolidated other debts and am trying to rein in the spending (all my spending, DH hardly spends anything). As ridiculous as it sounds, I do have some issues with compulsive/binge shopping. Am keeping an eye on what I'm spending using MoneyDashboard and it's really eye-opening. Have also been much more restrained since I started lurking here.

Today's spends: £42 booking DS's bowling party (good), £2.19 on a mini gin and tonic on the way home (not quite so good). Took tea for commute and soup for lunch, so feel happy with that.

colliepirate · 25/02/2016 20:08

I just found out that Scottish Power increased my monthly direct debit to £135 a month ConfusedAngry

Despite submitting weekly meter readings which proves we use roughly £16 a week in gas/electric. I am SO angry!

I am unable to change my direct debit as its due to come out next week. Is there anything I can do to stop it?

I don't even have much of a balance to clear on the account but definitely can't afford £135 to come out of the account. Arghh!

Ememem84 · 25/02/2016 20:08

Omg need that's beautiful. Well done dh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/02/2016 20:11

You can cancel the DD and ring them quickly. Sounds very odd to me?.

needastrongone · 25/02/2016 20:13

Thanks Em.

I would speak to the bank collie and cancel the DD. Next week should give you time. Then post on the Facebook page and call their customer complaints dept.

Hi Mary

Good recommendations fuzz

colliepirate · 25/02/2016 20:14

Yeah I think we will have to cancel via our bank. There is no way I'm paying that. They are crazy to think that's fair!

colliepirate · 25/02/2016 20:15

need so beautiful! Awww!

And welcome Mary

And good news on the extra pupils fuzz!
