Last night I cooked raw prawns for first time, I will never buy ready cooked to have hot again.
10 jumbo prawns, 40g chorizo, two mini sweet peppers & quarter chilli stirfryed and leftover spaghetti stirfryed in amazing Grin

Babs congrats!

NSD today.

Can anyone tell me how to stop DHs jumpers from shrinking in the wash? Is it because I use a tumble dryer? I do reshape them Blush they are 80% cotton and 20% nylon.

CremeEggThief · 11/03/2016 08:22

Jumpers are one item I would never tumble dry, Collie. Put them on an airer in front of a radiator and make them lie flat, if the instructions say so.

Ememem84 · 11/03/2016 08:29

Well done Babs

I never tumble jumpers. I always cool wash and air dty

Colliefeatures · 11/03/2016 08:33

I never used to - then I got lazy in November Blush the label says it's OK to tumble dry on cool.

Although DH has just told me that he's got a long body and short legs Grin that sounds odd. He doesn't look odd! Ha! apparently most tops don't fit lengthways even when they're new.

Need to find a selection of "tall" men's tops and buy an airer.

lilacclery · 11/03/2016 08:49

I'm odd too collie so I've a long body and short legsGrin
Some people are in better proportion than others Grin

Jumpers are another thing that I don't tumble dry

SpaceKablooie · 11/03/2016 08:53

I half-watched Shop well for less last night - I thought the couple were great, they were very spendy but they seemed really open to the idea of spending less. I found it a bit frustrating that the focus seemed to be on buying cheaper things, rather than buying less stuff though.

needastrongone · 11/03/2016 09:11

Excellent news Babs, but not on the stress and being extra busy.

I think your 'boob woman' is better than the one I had in mind Em Smile

Colllie I wouldn't put jumpers in the TD personally.

Stir fry sounds delicious Lila.

I think M&S have a £200 giftcard for opening an account Laska. I am happy with them, but would swap if not.

Should be a LSD.

£5 car wash.
£5 seeds

I'm pee'd off with myself as I hadn't noticed a DD coming out of an old current account. Only £12 a month, but I'm usually really diligent.

fuzzpig · 11/03/2016 09:30

Wreck thank you for Chichester recommendations :) we're staying in the Haven in Pagham, can't wait. DD had a bit of a meltdown last night though - overtired can't blame her, so am I but basically because she won't be seeing her homeschool buddies for a whole week! And of course that seems like forever to her. Bless her. I was sympathetic (mostly... Blush it was very tempting to just say FFS we need a holiday so tough luck you're going!) and we talked about how great it is that she's got such lovely friends who will miss her too. I really hope she will be ok when we're there. :(

She does struggle with change generally, it's because we'll be out of 'what she knows' and she'll be missing her classes etc. In some ways I feel worse taking a 'term time' holiday than I would've if she was missing regular school, as I know exactly what clubs she's missing! Blush But then we could never afford one in the holidays anyway. She's only missing one 'learning' type club and I've already told her tutor who is sending the week's activities.

Not quite caught up with the thread yet (I notice Babs has a promotion though YAY! Congratulations! Star) but thank you all so much for your lovely comments Thanks. I'm actually rather overwhelmed with relief. Can't remember if I mentioned this before but it turns out DH didn't actually apply for this job. It's on the same road as his current store, and the staff therefore knew him and actually put him forward for it when the manager said there was a vacancy - so it looks like they already know his track record and value his skills, IYSWIM. We aren't sure of shift patterns yet, apparently they get their rota 3 weeks in advance (although we don't know about his first shifts yet so not sure how that works!).

Downside is I've now 'crashed' a bit - last couple of weeks have been really stressful and culminating in a really full day yesterday, I was ridiculously flustered and had to dash into work to finish this redeployment form etc. So was in a lot of pain last night and still am now, but we're at mum's until tomorrow so that takes the pressure off a bit - I'm still in bed and I can hear mum chatting away with the DCs so I can rest. :) It's a lot easier now the DCs are out of the running-about-madly phase - when they were younger until about 6 months ago it was stressful being here as I'd panic about their excitability and having to keep them quiet etc (it's a flat, grumpy downstairs neighbour and my parents aren't really keen on boisterousness...). Blush

In other news, they are PAYING all his extra hours! I can't believe it! DH says the area manager has been ducking the issue for ages and we really thought he was going to weasel out of it by saying 'needs of the business' and all that shit. DH has been taking a few of his hours this week, finishing early etc, but he's got at least 3 weeks' worth of time owing, so with that and the remaining annual leave it's a decent last payslip later this month, so with the fact he's starting a new job soon it means things are going to be a little less scary financially. We've nearly got my AL issue sorted too so hopefully I'll find out about that too.

Oh and yes. I think in a way the AM is regretting DH going. He's said to DH he'd like to go for a drink sometime (REALLY?! Hmm). And it turns out quite a few customers have actually made official complaints that 'the best manager [store] has ever had' is leaving. If that isn't a giant Fuck You I don't know what is. :o I think DH's work ethic has in some ways been his downfall. The reason customers love him so much is because he puts them first, always. But in the AM's words, he wasn't [brand] enough. In other words, he put the customer first rather than the company's immoral moneygrabbing needs. And that's why in AM's eyes he 'failed' even though he admits DH is incredibly hard working etc. He's always been like that, it's why we still get locals coming up to him 5 years later asking him to come back to the store he used to run. And one of the many reasons I really adore him. [soppy] :)

Sorry for that epic waffle. Back later :o but thank you all again Thanks

Grin Grin Grin fuzz

NSD today but last night I spent £106 on Amazon Blush Need linen skirts for trip to Chile. Have ordered 2 dresses and 5 skirts, anticipate some will go back.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/03/2016 10:04

Fuzz

When he's left you will have to pm us the name of his company when he's left, we can all boycot it forever.

Unless it's John Lewis. If it is I will be politely cool to their staff instead.

£20 dh birthday present & £34 new kettle.

I used my nectar and Amazon vouchers for them so it was £69 saved off the final bills.

lilacclery · 11/03/2016 10:28

Aww fuzz that was an epic post! Sounds like things are really starting to look up for you all.

I've sold another skirt and jacket €55 up happy days Smile

Spent a few hours yesterday separating my personal budget and joint budget on ynab have the personal one sorted and sorting out the joint one today. Doing it this way to test YNAB Classic which I've already paid for and nYnab which I'm on a months trial of and which will cost $5 a month/$50 dollars a years afterwards think I get 10% discount for already owning the Classic. I will go with whichever one is most convenient rather than just the classic if it means I wouldn't keep it up to date.

fuzzpig · 11/03/2016 11:20

Unless it's John Lewis. If it is I will be politely cool to their staff instead. Oh Fluffy* you do make me smile :o :o :o (don't worry it's not JL!)

Have spoken to author and she's been so wonderfully understanding about the fact I've got a little behind under the circumstances. I offered to start the next book for free but she wouldn't have it! Thanks

Off to town in a bit as mum is getting DD her dance shoes today. I may have to pop into Hotel Chocolat. I feel I've earned it. Blush And the music shop but they don't have many decent piano books these days.

We've planned our Well Done Daddy present for when DH starts his new job. I'll have to leave ordering it until we come back though or knowing our posties it'll get left in the recycling bin and taken to the tip on Friday! It's a Thunderbirds bag I've wanted to get him for years. DD had the lovely idea of filling it with all his favourite snacks :o should be doable for £25-30 including the bag so frivolous but not too extravagant really. He deserves it that's for sure. Star

Ememem84 · 11/03/2016 13:03

Just done something truely bonkers. Heard about a house for sale near us. Owners died. Place hasn't been revamped since it was built. Three bedroom. Garage. Garden. Big rooms and living room. Two bathroom. For the bargain (over here anyway) of £439k. I've booked a viewing tomorrow. In my mind if it's good we'll offer £385k as a starting point and a max of £400k. Details look like it needs work.

Have to mention this to dh later...

lilacclery · 11/03/2016 14:26

Oh em I love it, just on a whim booked a house viewing dh!!

needastrongone · 11/03/2016 15:41

Go for it Em, why the hell not? Smile

needastrongone · 11/03/2016 15:45

I've done a new thread too, but I can't link on this Chromebook, would anyone be kind enough? Smile

CremeEggThief · 11/03/2016 15:50

Ooh exciting, Em!

Today's spends: £7 bus fare to work and £2.50 for lunch at Café Rouge. My lovely friend paid for most of my share as a thank you for some tickets I got for both of us a while ago. I had a cheese soufflé and side salad, followed by chocolate cake and coffeeSmile.

Thanks Need. See you all on the new thread.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/03/2016 16:32

Em does your dh know your house hunting? Grin

Ememem84 · 11/03/2016 17:28

Yes. Well. We said we'd look at anything like this which came up.

We still need to get our main bathroom fixed. But it shouldn't take long. In theory we could move within 2 months. At a push.

He knows that I've booked the viewing. He seems ok with it. It's a total doer upper. If we were to go for it we'd have to do some serious frugaleering. I suspect it's need new electrics plumbing and complete redocoration throughout.

It's a 1950's build. So may not have modern standard utilities etc. So would be an opportunity to go Eco on it.

We had a dream of buying land and building our house. Like grand designs. But. Land is expensive here and so is building. So dream is out.
