Collieputthekettleon · 30/08/2015 20:42

The blackberries I picked are so juicy! Can't wait to pick more blackberries next weekend.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/08/2015 20:49

We used to pick blackberries all the time until I ate one with a maggot in. Bleurgh.

Lovetoknit · 30/08/2015 20:50

Happy birthday free
Crappy weather today so dc got to watch a dvd and I made a ballet bag for younger dd and cut all the pieces for the one for other dd.
Had roast dinner for tea and apple tart tatin for pudding.
Frugal win of the week - 6 jars of apple and blackberry jam made with the fruit I picked yesterday.

Collieputthekettleon · 30/08/2015 20:51

Errrrrggghhh Spotty! I checked them very very carefully Grin

Pointlessfan · 30/08/2015 21:10

Happy birthday free!
There are blackberries behind our shed, DH reckons he can reach them if he uses a ladder, I'm not convinced he won't end up in A&E!

wheelycote · 30/08/2015 21:10

Happy Birthday Free hope you've had a wonderful day!!

peppansalt · 30/08/2015 21:13

Just remembered we've been invited to a 50th party next weekend. No idea what to get him that's thoughtful yet frugal.

All ideas gratefully received - he's Aussie if that makes any difference Grin

Freeandsinglewater · 30/08/2015 21:56

Thanks everyone,
I'm looking at the money and thinking, oh, that can go on x or y.

babsmam · 30/08/2015 22:00

Spendy day today. Nt with little or no pic nic so I leave that to your imagination.
Hoping for a lsd tomorrow as heading home and need to prepare for school on Tuesday

babsmam · 30/08/2015 22:02

Happy birthday free, budget yourself a treat in if you can

ipsos · 30/08/2015 22:03

The weather is really changing here and becoming wintery feeling. Where do you all buy jumpers or fleeces? I could do with some seriously warm clothing.

Whatabout · 30/08/2015 22:13

I go for the trapping heat in method with lots of thin layers, so vest, long sleeved thin top and then a jumper. Base layers from primary and then sports direct for cheap fleece type jumpers.

ipsos · 30/08/2015 22:47

Thanks! That's a good idea. :-) I usually go to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill but they've discontinued my favourite jumper, so I'm a bit stuck.

I think this is rather natty looking: www.longtallsally.com/p/tall/2-in-1-reversible-fleece-12K12#12K12BGR

Pricey though. :-)

ipsos · 30/08/2015 23:20

That's weird. I just bought a bunch of warm clothes online and they're all extremely frugal looking, but the cost really mounts up. I only got M&S thermal vests for me and ds and some trousers, but once I have bought enough to several changes it really is a lot of money. I had no idea.

AuditAngel · 30/08/2015 23:59

Happy birthday Free

Pointlessfan · 31/08/2015 06:46

If you have the Go Outdoors discount card you can get lovely branded fleeces for about £7, children's ones are less. Annual discount card is £5 so it might be worth it if you need to buy warm clothes for the whole family. They do lots of waterproofs and boots too.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/08/2015 06:47

I had a random child tax credits payment in Thursday of £48 a week after my usual £68. I wish they wouldn't do that I have no idea what's going on. It's decidedly wintry here too and ds' trousers are all two inches too short (he's been in shorts for ages). I might have to just go to h&m and do a big winter shop for them both.

574ejones · 31/08/2015 07:13

Happy Birthday Free! LSD yesterday - just £1 on candy floss for DS2.

Pocket money for mine DS1 (17) gets £20, DS2 (13) £15. We also pay £60 pm for DS1s bus pass Shock. They are expected to do small household chores but anything extra like cleaning the car, I pay them more for.

Feels more like October than the end of August!

Unescorted · 31/08/2015 07:21

I hate that too spotty Although we have had a letter saying we owe them money this time around... it is annoying as I told them my income had gone up.

Happy b'day Free.

My mum had to go into hospital lastnight due to an irregular heart beat / infection. I had organised to go out with friends after being up there - as my Dad & Bro went to the hospital with her I didn't see the need to cancel. They obviously feel differently. I am officially a very bad daughter. I didn't see either of them pick up on the fact she was poorly..... she was going to just go for a snooze, but she looked as white as a sheet & had been complaining about an hour earlier that she was cold (DB had been taking the piss out of her for it) so I took her pulse & temperature. She knew she had to call the emergency line then - and asked that I take the kids home so they didn't witness all the blue light pick up. She has had a "comfortable night" - covers a multitude of sins that. I know my Dad & Bro are stressed by the situation - but they seem to forget that I do my bit as well by fielding all the random enquiries into her health from her friends, most of whom feel the need to burst into tears and tell me how awful they feel. Sorry feeling a bit cross worried and glum. Appologies for the rant.

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 07:42

unescorted rant away Flowers its a very stressful time for you all. Sad

Just before bed last night I remembered we have a wedding to go to this month. And so I bought a dress off eBay for £10.

ipsos I buy my clothes from eBay mostly but also Next, Sainsbury's etc (anywhere with a sale on). I usually buy quality stuff on eBay so it'll last. I've been lucky & I've never had an issue with the stuff I have bid on. Got some incredible deals like my brand new Oasis duffle coat for £3.50!

It is not like August at all here. But my sunflower just opened up! Beautiful Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 31/08/2015 07:49

Unescorted that sounds horrible for you Flowers

Collie one of ours has bloomed too the other is ten foot tall!

Dd needs new winter boots I usually go to next as they fit and last well but matalan have some nice ones, false economy? They're less than half the price..

Unescorted · 31/08/2015 07:56

I am glad ours is not 10 foot tall - it is in a pot on the windowsill. Held up by a peg, which looks vaguely stupid. It does have 3 flowers though.... probably because it is stressed by being in a pot.

Ebay sounds a great idea for buying clothes.... will take a look.

Thanks for the flowers.
