How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

Maybe try replenishing his electrolytes? Something like High 5 Zero tablets (because they're sugar free, just in case it is diabetes).

Thank you, I'll try that.

Posted upthread as my son had it last week. He's much better now and back at school, but he does have a strange, lingering symptom - a raging thirst! Has any other recent Covid sufferers had anything similar? I'm starting to fret it's diabetes.

Just to say that I'm on Day 10 and very dry and thirsty. I don't normally drink a lot/enough during the day, but I'm sinking bottles of lemonade right now (craving sweet fizzy drinks). I just feel like my head/sinuses are very dry - almost as if I had taken some sinus medication to actually dry up a cold.

Day 10 in the big covid house

I am now largely “better”

But I too am sinking a tonne of water, very thirsty. Bit hard to breathe. Few cold sweats… fatigue isn’t too bad!

Feel better soon everyone

freespirit333 · 21/09/2023 07:42

Ugh I feel like death. I didn’t realise it was possible to have so much diarrhoea on an empty stomach. Feel so nauseous too. Would prefer a cold! This is exclusively gastric.

Smoky1107 · 21/09/2023 10:45

I work for a London nhs trust and have just attended a meeting today where the instruction is to go back to masks in hospital areas. It's everywhere again

Covidia · 21/09/2023 13:58

Day 11, depressed, exhausted, emotional, hard to breathe, coughing.

Very weird there was no coughing until negative/“recovered”

stayathomer · 21/09/2023 15:39

Son tested positive at the weekend, negative yesterday, he had a headache and sore throat, cough and temperature. Other son is lethargic, wrecked and cranky and finds everything is tasting weird and is white as a ghost. He tested negative twice and it’s driving me batty as telling the school those symptoms I’d say they’re thinking just send him in if he’s just tired but It’s so much more than that

Covidia · 21/09/2023 16:28

Test 12noon - 4pm, the virus sheds more between these times (to coincide with when it’s most likely to be able to get to a new host..)

domesticslattern · 21/09/2023 21:04

It's useful to see symptoms here as the press seems miles behind.
Am on day 5- symptoms - started with very mild sore throat and food tasting weird, then escalated to headache and the classic aches and chills (aching teeth, legs, ears... wtf). Couldn't work out if I was hot or cold. And diarrhoea (never had before with covid), nausea, not eating- main symptoms actually, apart from the fatigue. Sleeping 12 hours stints, with mad dreams and a bit of an inability to think clearly in the day. Now moved to a snotty nose. Still knackered. Almost no cough.
I haven't enjoyed it at all. I can imagine why someone would be thirsty after it though. I am craving Sprite which isn't normal for me.
Hope everyone feels better soon.

Smoky1107 · 21/09/2023 22:26

I'm going to contact my gp again tmrw, I've been coughing now for four weeks. It's really draining

Interesting about the lost appetite - I had that (mildly, like, I missed one meal each day and spaced out the other two, with bloating as well) but in the week before I tested positive. I even did a test because I also had a mild sore throat, but it was negative.

I felt reasonably well, so travelled (train) to a meeting on Friday , which is where I assumed I'd picked it up, as the throat/nose signs began on Sunday night, didn't test till Monday.

So now I don't know if I've had covid for four days or 11! Still testing strongly positive (though feeling pretty much OK) so I suppose four is likelier. Anyway for me it has been very mild this time, just feeling a bit feeble really, slight sore throat, bit sneezy, raised temp for a couple of hours. So far anyway!

Get well soon everyone who is suffering.

candycane222 · 22/09/2023 12:16

....aaand now I have the raging thirst!

SimianAway · 22/09/2023 13:58

Hope everyone feels better soon! Sounds like DS not alone in his raging thirst symptom! Thankfully he's calmed down on the pints of water. He doesn't seem to be guzzling as much as before so am starting to think it's probably not diabetes!

OrchardBlack · 22/09/2023 19:42

Just been catching up. I've had a raging sore throat for the last few days on and off, and I know of at least two colleagues who had it last week (emergency Services).

Now starting to feel very tired and achey, sore throat still raging. So worried as been to see my dear friend who is vulnerable.

Have asked mate to bring test kit back from work tonight.

What do we think oh wise mumsnet? Weekend going to be a write off? 😔

Stokey · 23/09/2023 08:31

I've just done a test and it went positive instantly. I had a bit of a sore throat at the start of the week and have been feeling tired, but dh has been away so thought it was just solo parenting. I also worked from home all week so didn't leave the house much. Yesterday I was really achy and had a horrible headache which migraine meds barely touched the side of so did a test this morning. I'm not sure how many days in I am. I've also been feeling hot and cold but just thought that was the weather. Also the thirst - drank at least 3l of water yesterday.

It's so weird you can't report anywhere so really no-one has a clue how many cases there are. Interesting what you said about the NHS trust @Smoky1107

Icecreamcoffee · 23/09/2023 09:13

Coconut water is great for thirst. I don't know if it will help a covid thirst but it helps with a cold thirst.

Started with minor headache for two days then headache and feeling sick, which I put down to stress at the moment and wine the right before sickness. Then sore throat for a few hours. Today I'm just feeling a bit cold, tired and headachey - similar symptoms to first time I had it but not so bad.

Womblegreen · 24/09/2023 17:13

@SimianAway if you suspect diabetes get your son to a pharmacy ASAP, don’t wait. Please don’t wait. A simple finger prick will give you an answer in less than a minute.

Please don’t wait.

K73c · 25/09/2023 13:21

Pleased to hear London taking action. Hard to find a mask in Winchester hospital! (Hampshire ). Staff aren't wearing . I had vivid mid Aug (2nd time )and still have fatigue +++

LH260 · 26/09/2023 11:11

Never been ill for so long with anything else. Tested positive nearly 4 weeks ago. First couple of days general cold symptoms, congestion, mild aches and pains but able to mope around cook tea etc. By day 4 in bed only able to drag myself to loo, dizzy, chest pain, shortness of breath (asthmatic), no concentration or energy continued for about a week (now testing negative). Able to get up but only as far a sofa feeling absolutely drained, still on/off chest pains, loads of mucus in nose/throat, really dry mouth with horrible taste. Went to Dr, checked chest. Was clear, said it’s a nasty virus and can take a few months just rest. Oxygen levels been ok throughout but still no able to do much, managed over the last few days to go shopping but by late morning back of sofa feeling rotting. Only thing keeping me going is knowing I’m not the only one and hoping this will pass soon!!
Hope you all recover well.

Laurap39 · 26/09/2023 11:51

I’m positive for the first time started with a scratch irritating throat, quickly move to very high temps for 3 days and aches everywhere including hands🤷🏻‍♀️ on day 6 now taste and smell have gone and have bag chesty cough and congestion.
weird symptoms I wasn’t expecting are insomnia and feeling starving hungry even though I can’t taste 🤷🏻‍♀️

Icecreamcoffee · 26/09/2023 12:00

I remember when I had COVID last year and I lost my taste. It's so weird. Things tasted off. I ate a piece of cheese and tasted of mold. It didn't click with me then until the next day. I was eating yogurt and I couldn't taste it. All I could taste was the sweetness of it but not the flavour. I went about the kitchen tasting other stuff and I couldn't taste food. I was able to taste the sweet in food and the saltiness of food but that was it. No flavours. Tea tasted like warm water. Medicine tasted like petrol. I found the warm water test was the most distressing part of it all. All I wanted was a cup of normal tea or coffee.

After exploring in the kitchen, I went to the pattern to spray and sniff all sorts and my smell was gone too.

I remember putting in a grocery order online including frosties, bread and marmite.

I found the loss of taste extremely upsetting and distressing.

Where's that from @K73c?

I didn't lose my sense of smell this time I don't think but then I barely ate anything and my brain was so addled I didn't know what day it was for some of the time so perhaps I just didn't notice it. I lost nearly a stone and my bottom droops now so I'm guessing some of it was muscle.
