How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

Sore throat
Sneezing/congestion
Loose bowel movement
Aches and pains
Nausea
Temperature
Fatigue
Anorexia

I am 1 1/2 days in this time. Utterly grim. Had vomiting and rash previously so hoping that stays away.

How long have you had it @verdantverdure? hope you start to feel better soon, work was a struggle today, I sat in my car and had a 20 minute nap at lunchtime. I was absolutely exhausted

About a month.

I had time booked off because of school holidays but the poor kids have largely entertained themselves.

I don't have that dreadful suffering "god I feel awful" thing any more I'm just pathetically weak and doing very little tires me out. I always feel a bit like this after covid, but generally so long as I take it easy I can build back up. This fine the smallest effort seems to set me back. It's a bit frightening tbh.

I am so sorry for you, I’ll be gutted if I’m still like this in another 2 weeks time.
I worry about what repeated covid infections will do to our bodies over the years, I feel like I’ve been almost damaged in some way by the last bout. My body feels wrecked by it.

It's definitely taken me this long before, but I've always been further forward at this point than I am now.

I really hope you feel better soon too. Being so tired that you have to have a lunchtime car nap is no fun at all. Sad

I worry about previous covids having left some kind of back door open for future covids even though I have no basis to suppose this. I just seem to get it more frequently and be more debilitated by it than some other people do.

I'd never had time off work for my own illness before covid. (The kids sometimes, but not my own.)

Maybe it's my age, I am peri-menopausal I think.

Coolingdown · 11/09/2023 20:01

I’m also peri menopausal, just turned 50. I’m also usually in good health and have plenty of energy. This has knocked me sideways.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 11/09/2023 20:06

Just clicked on this thread having seen on the news today that they have started rolling out boosters due to a new variant- yet for some reason (cost I imagine) they've decided not to offer to those 50-64 this time . I really hope they change their minds as you all sound really poorly . Hope everyone feels better soon .

That's a study in elderly people so may not apply to everyone, but it does seem that an earlier covid infection might make some people more, not less, likely to get covid again.

Omicron infection may increase risk of reinfection, study finds

Researchers at McMaster University have found that rather than conferring immunity against future infections, infection during the first Omicron wave of COVID left the seniors they studied much more vulnerable to reinfection during the second Omicron w...

I do have a chest infection unfortunately, so week 3 nearly and still not bounced back fully!

kitnkaboodle · 12/09/2023 10:47

Late to the covid party as i have finally caught it (in London) for the first time.

Not sure who might find this interesting, but it started with mild sore throat and headache yesterday. I tested because DS is vulnerable. Today I have a banging headache that won't shift and - worse - bad muscle pains in my back, hips and legs. Quite weird - it's like the disease has found out where my usual little muscular niggles are (I'm 58) and has turned them all to the top of the dial. 😵 My positive test today looks like someone has drawn it with a thick sharpie! But this too shall pass. Take care, everyone x

Perihelion · 12/09/2023 15:21

Day 11, 6mths since last Covid infection and it's hit the same glands in my neck and under my chin. I don't feel terrible now, but am so exhausted. Regular episodes of a racing heart. Suddenly going to 110 beats a minute when I've been sitting down doing nothing. And feel breathless and like something is sitting on my chest.

YoSof · 12/09/2023 16:30

Tested positive this afternoon and weirdly had the aching hips and legs this morning. Felt hot/cold and shivery this afternoon and absolutely knackered, tested because I have a close relative going through chemo and it was blazing positive within a minute of taking the test.

Hope it stays mild 🤞

verdantverdure · 12/09/2023 18:22

I had the aching hips. And elbows.

kitnkaboodle · 12/09/2023 19:03

Yes aching hip joints!! @YoSof @verdantverdure I had been doing a lot of walking (schlepping!) around London over the weekend and put it down to that at first, but this is something else. My first test yesterday was quite faint. Today's looks like someone's drawn on it with a flippin red sharpie 😖

Whoopsmahoot · 12/09/2023 20:17

Caught it in the south of France, 4 days ago. Aching legs and hip joints, sore throat, runny nose, cough, tired, slight fever in evenings, feel really up and down. Very flu like.

mummabubs · 12/09/2023 20:22

This is so interesting to me as I tested positive yesterday (first time I've had it) and this evening I was saying to my dh that my hips and legs are aching. Weird but validating to see that's what others are experiencing too, I'd have never linked the two specific areas to covid!

kitnkaboodle · 12/09/2023 20:27

Sitting in a hot bath is helping me with the hip pain. Upper body ok. Such a weird, specific symptom. Wonder if it's just women experiencing it??

Vargas · 12/09/2023 23:01

Wow, thanks to MN I've just realised my aching hips a few weeks ago coincided with Covid! I normally sit cross legged v comfortably but couldn't then at all.

Covidia · 13/09/2023 00:28

Feeling so ill, can’t really eat or sleep. Temp will not reduce below 38.
Head banging and throat sore.
Confused as well.

5th time having it and had only just got over long covid symptoms before.

It is making me so poorly on a biannual basis with lingering symptoms. It is so depressing.

Lindy2 · 13/09/2023 08:21

I had weird aching hips and legs for a couple of weeks recently. It was like I could actually feel my femur bones inside my legs just hurting.

I thought it might have been age related but I'm absolutely fine again now. I didn't think to Covid test but maybe I should have.

My 85 year old mum had it for the first time last month. It was just an average cold for her with a bit of a chesty cough. She's had all the jabs but it was a real relief that she wasn't too badly affected at all.

Get well soon everyone who is feeling poorly.

kitnkaboodle · 13/09/2023 10:14

So sorry you're feeling so bad @Covidia . That sounds really rough. I hope it passes more quickly this time. 5 times must put a big strain on you ...

Covidia · 13/09/2023 12:32

Thanks @kitnkaboodle Feeling a bit more human today. Temp has finally dropped for portions of the day. And I’ve started to eat again so that’s good. I don’t think as bad as before no. I never thought I would miss having a regular cold!!!!

By the by - in children the gastric symptoms are still the main symptom. Got it from DC whose main symptom was vomiting and a few sniffles. School friends were the same apparently.

I felt the same. Didn't know what day it was.

I think I might finally be on the mend. I cooked dinner last night for the first time in weeks.

However I am up right now because my coughing was disturbing my husband.

Just back off to bed now because I've heard his alarm go off.

Coolingdown · 14/09/2023 07:29

I’m checking back in 2.5 weeks later and I can now say at last im waking up and not immediately feeling ill as soon as I open my eyes.

Ive been coughing a lot of thick white mucus up (sorry tmi) and I think that’s it clearing the congestion from my airways that’s making me more with it and less brain foggy.

My period was late by almost a week and it’s now arrived and is much heavier and painful than usual though.

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon, it’s a vile illness x

Covidwoes · 14/09/2023 08:04

I'm positive today for the fourth time in less than 3 years, and so far only symptoms are a banging headache and slightly achy legs. I've had high fevers the three previous times, but none this time. Praying it stays that way! I do worry about the long term effects on the body though having had it 4 times!
