How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

Day 7 now and no more cough at all, no sore throat and aches and pains gone, BUT swollen burning feeling in feet, watery eyes, had terrible tummy runs yesterday and a bit today and just feel spaced out and dizzy...someone wrote about feeling like they are underwater. This really fits - I woke-up feeling like I had swum about 400 lengths. Panicking as due to work on Monday. Endless snot, but that's manageable. Still testing positive, but feeling negative!! Waaaaaah :(

LucyHaney · 08/09/2023 23:18

I ended up in hospital with pneumonia on Tuesday evening and I am still in today - I’ve improved a lot today so hopefully I’ll be out by Monday.

im a strong and fit young women - I did the London marathon only a few months ago! Yet I thought Covid was going to be the end of me.

so thankful for my ward nurses, doctors, consultants but most of all the tea&coffee lady who seem (touch wood) to have got me through the worst now.

My dd started feeling unwell at school Wednesday morning she started with a bad headache, sore throat, fever, sneezing and feeling dizzy.
Tested positive on Thursday morning same symptoms, today she was nearly crying because she's had no let up from the headache it's continuously there since Wednesday morning, no fever really just spikes at times and goes back down, sore throat there but not as bad, has started coughing a little bit today
It's the headache mainly it's just continuous
Everyone else in house ok so far

Tessisme · 08/09/2023 23:46

I tested positive yesterday and have cold symptoms and a headache. I have also had a chemical/burning smell in my nose for a couple of days. DP tested positive two days before me. He was aching all over and had a sore throat and a cough. Those symptoms seem to have improved but he has lost his appetite today and still feels lousy. DS1 has similar symptoms but has tested negative twice. Either he has a different virus or it's just not showing up on the test. No fever for any of us. DS2 is immunosuppressed so we're generally on the alert for Covid. So far he seems to have escaped.

That sounds very scary @LucyHaney. Glad you're over the worst nowFlowers

Patsyanna · 09/09/2023 00:36

@LucyHaney I've also ended up with pneumonia. Covid itself was horrid but pneumonia is awful. I'm not in hospital though and hopefully on the mend soon. Same thing happened when I had covid at the beginning of the pandemic. This time round the first antibiotic wasn't working. After 3 days I felt worse. I think I now have the right one as gradually improving. I was shocked when the GP said pneumonia as I'd had the jab to prevent me from getting it. He said when you have something like Covid it can still get in. Hope you're home and feeling a lot better soon 💐

Coolingdown · 09/09/2023 06:12

So sorry to hear you’ve been unwell with pneumonia, can I ask what the symptoms of this is please? I have constant back / rib pain and my chest feels tight. I always dizzy and spaced out like I’m not quite getting enough air.
No fever or productive cough or crackly chest though (it’s a dry cough) which to me would be more indicative of pneumonia. I’m just not sure whether I need to be seen again. Last week when I saw the GP my chest was clear last week but oxygen levels were low, they just said it was the covid affecting my lungs.

Patsyanna · 09/09/2023 06:41

@Coolingdown Hello, My symptoms were pain in bottom of left lung. Not constant but on coughing or breathing in more than about half a breath. Also coughing up quite a bit. And felt general poorly and tired but I thought that might just be from Covid. I think I would contact the GP again to check that pain. If you do need meds the sooner the better. Hope you're feeling better soon 🌺

pippapipps · 09/09/2023 13:46

Anyone tell me how long the headache lasts for? My dd is on day 4 of a relentless headache that's continuously there she says it's a constant 8/10
Paracetamol not helping she says

LifeinadreamChateau · 08/09/2023 15:50

K73c I’m two weeks post positive test/start of feeling unwell. I’m worried about the fatigue too, I’m just so bloody tired. Like walking through treacle.

Good news is my chest/breathless has gone and feel normal apart from tiredness.

Sorry you're feeling so fatigued too. Still no better. I know the heat won't be helping but it is like walking through treacle, getting puffed out and rapid pulse just going upstairs. Hope you feel better soon.

Orangedoris · 10/09/2023 12:36

I’ve got it - I tested positive yesterday (Saturday).

I felt fine on Thursday, apart from a slight headache and feeling of nausea in the afternoon.

Friday I had a headache (although nothing painkillers couldn’t handle), nausea and a head cold - runny nose, sneezing. No cough.

Saturday - same as Friday only heavier cold symptoms plus coughing.

Today I feel slightly better, just a stuffy nose, the headache is gone.

I haven’t taken my temperature, but I have had occasional moments of feeling very hot and sweaty. I can’t say whether this is down to covid or a combination of menopause and the hot weather!

I haven’t had a sore throat at all.

Coolingdown · 10/09/2023 13:38

Two weeks tomorrow I tested positive and today is the first day I can say I’m not shaky and weak / fuzzy headed.
I have a very tickly, burned feeling in my chest and I’m aching from coughing. I finally felt like I’m on the mend now though. I think it’s just one of those things you need to be patient with. It’s a horrible virus and this was definitely much worse than a cold for me, it was definitely affecting my heart, I never get adrenaline and palpitations with a cold

LifeinadreamChateau · 10/09/2023 13:40

Hope you’ve turned a corner coolingdown

Coolingdown · 10/09/2023 14:10

I do feel I have today. Thanks so much x

Orangedoris · 10/09/2023 15:33

Gosh @Coolingdown that sounds awful. I hope you recover soon.
i’m thankful I seem to have got away lightly.

Coolingdown · 10/09/2023 17:40

Went out for a walk along the beach, the sunshine made my head hurt and my pulse was racing in the heat, I was hot and sweaty and the fuzzy head was back. Just felt like I could lie down and sleep.
I’m done with it all already!!

forcedtogetheatpumps · 10/09/2023 19:00

Does anyone know if an older COVID test will work on this current strain of COVID? I have tests which are still in date - just about.

Symptoms are: sneezing, blocked sinuses, sore throat, headache, fatigue, mild stomach ache and feeling sick. I also have a slight temperature. Ds is now complaining of feeling unwell.

forcedtogetheatpumps · 10/09/2023 19:01

I tested earlier, but it was negative.

Smoky1107 · 10/09/2023 19:02

I'm now just over two weeks and cannot shift the cough, now it sounds a bit rattly on my chest. Not sure whether to do an e consult to all the Dr what he thinks (I never go to the gp so really second guessing myself that it will pass)

Lessstressedhemum · 10/09/2023 19:56

I'm almost a month in. I'm exhausted, sweating, shaky, coughing non stop, can't walk the length of myself and am struggling for breath.
I passed out a week ago trying to hang out a load of washing and yesterday, I tried to walk the 50m to the church, just to see if I could. I had to be carried home and put to bed by my son and his partner and have the ooh doctor called
This new variant, or whatever one I had, is absolutely awful.

Patsyanna · 10/09/2023 19:58

@forcedtogetheatpumps Hi there. I used tests that are out of date in November this year. They showed positive results

Doyouthinktheyknow · 10/09/2023 20:07

I’ve got it for the second time, last time was 18 months ago. Symptoms are similar to last time for me, like flu. Aches, temperature, cough, fatigue, runny nose. Last 2 days I’ve barely been able to get out of bed and couldn’t have worked as I normally would with a cold. Little better today.

Orangedoris · 10/09/2023 21:57

@forcedtogetheatpumps my test expired on 28/08/23 and still worked. I have worked in pharmaceuticals and expiry dates tend to be set very conservatively.

betwelve · 11/09/2023 08:25

@Lessstressedhemum You really need to rest at this point so you can fully recover.

Coolingdown · 11/09/2023 10:40

Two weeks after testing positive and I’m back to the office. I ache all over, back and legs the worst. Still a bit tired and off feeling but hopefully now on the mend.

verdantverdure · 11/09/2023 16:37

I'm still out of action.

I'm just so exhausted and weak.

I have a day when I think I'm feeling a bit better and get a couple of things done then the next day I sleep for 16 hours.

I'm taking sick time now because I can't even promise to be awake during working hours, let alone thinking and doing.

Exhaustion, the coughing and the wheezy chest are the main symptoms. I've lost a stone in weight.
