How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

OP posts:

I also didn't have a cough.

betwelve · 22/08/2023 15:22

What gets me is that we've all just had it a bit too early to be strongly protected with antibodies over the Christmas/New Year period 😒

ConsistentlyPeeved · 22/08/2023 15:26

I had it in May; aching muscles, really bad fatigue, bit of a sore throat, sneezing, headache.

My OH had it a couple of days before me and was nearly in tears with his throat. He said it was the worst sore throat he'd ever had, it was that sore he was struggling to swallow his own saliva and over the counter meds weren't helping.
It did pass eventually but I always wonder if he should've gone to the Drs.

To be fair, I've had it five times. I don't have a lot of faith in the protection of my antibodies

My husband felt achy and had sniffles. He is day 4 /5 and feels much better today.

AllLopsided · 22/08/2023 16:48

I'm on day 7 now and still have next to no voice, chesty cough, pain in diaphragm from coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue and a bit of a temperature. It is 36° here though so I wonder if I would feel better if it were cooler. Still not up to moving much but was only in bed for 2.5 days. I had a headache and streaming nose/sneezing around day 3 and 4. DH seemed to get off more lightly.

From reading other posts it seems like the loss of voice and chesty cough are atypical.

I didn't bother testing after the first one as I haven't felt well enough to go out. DH tested again after a week because he had to go to an event and was negative,

After I passed out in the shower, 111 sent an ambulance. The paramedics told the kids that I have to stay in bed until at least Friday and if I m not significantly improved or if I have another "episode",they have to call 999. They've also been told not to let me go to the loo or shower unaccompanied. It's humiliating!
So, yeah, I'm still in bed. My ddil has been in bed since yesterday.
This is definitely the worst time I've had Covid and I got it on March 2020 when it was just new.

belle1993 · 22/08/2023 17:20

My 4 year old has it now. She started Sunday with a high temperature and not herself. Woke early Monday morning red hot complaining of an headache, leg aches and stomachache. Fine after a dose of calpol. Temp came back 5 hours later.
She's fine today, no aches, no high temps just a cough and blocked nose

You poor thing. I've just been and stuck some stuff in dishwasher and had to come back to bed. Wobbly legged. You must be really rough. Stay out and be looked after. Take care

Unbelievable headache and sore neck, fever, sore throat, harsh cough, painful sinuses, weakness in legs. Extreme fatigue. Oh, and I passed out in the shower.

Exactly the same for me last week. My neck 🤯🤯🤯

Womblegreen · 22/08/2023 18:13

Started with a sore throat last week, quickly went on to severe cold symptoms with a very chesty cough. Sense of smell and taste completely knocked out too. Tested negative on Day 7 but symptoms continue . . . This is 3rd bout (1st was poorly at home, 2nd barely noticeable), having had all available jabs.

Currently in hospital and just heard from the ITU consultant that there is a rather nasty new strain, coming in from America via the South Coast. I certainly know of two people who are really struggling, even 7-10 days on.

I caught mine in the US….

I'm on day 12 I think although I've lost the plot a bit on what day it is. I feel loads better really and lots of my symptoms have gone but I'm so tired and so weak. There's a full watering can in the kitchen sink because I couldn't lift it earlier. I usually go out with one on each hand.

So it does make me feel a little better to hear I'm not the only one completely wiped out this time.

K73c · 23/08/2023 11:42

Are you in hosp with covid? If so hope you get better soon. Is it the Eris strain or is there another?? I', day 5 , very flu like / wiped out (no cough - to think that was the erly symptom when all started and think it quite rarer symptom now from what I have read)

K73c · 23/08/2023 11:43

I empathise. And just as we have a few days of summer!

Peony654 · 23/08/2023 11:46

Like any other illness - varies per person. Mad how anyone still tests though; if you’re ill, stay home, don’t make a song and dance about it being Covid

Vargas · 23/08/2023 14:57

Not sure how posting on a Covid thread on an open Internet forum is a 'song and dance'?

If I could test for any infectious illness easily I would do so. I am quite interested in what is happening to my own body. If I suspected I had the flu I would like easy confirmation of that fact, the same holds true for colds, strep infections etc... I happen to have Covid tests in my house so when I had Covid like symptoms I did a test. Not sure how that is 'mad'.

Survivingmy3yearold · 23/08/2023 15:00

I've been I'll with the eris strain. I didn't think it was Covid to start with as previously it never included a runny nose/sneezing. This absolutely floored me though. When I checked the symptoms of eris I had every one and lost sense of taste/smell. I'm still very snotty and getting some fatigue and brain fog 2 and a half weeks after I first felt unwell

K73c · 23/08/2023 15:20

sounds a fairly nasty strain (though before anyone says - I KNOW nothing compared to the 2020-1. Just that it affecting people in way that knocking them off their normal functioning for fair time, at a time of year when a few years ago would seem unusual. Still does tbh. I'm day 5. Last time 15 days positive . Wondering how long it going to go on for . I am in the middle of treatment for something and this has derailed that and I am meant to ensure I eat a certain amount a day due to the illness but poor appetite / sore throat. I'm slightly anemic & only recovered from throat infection 2 wks ago .....please not long covid . Get well soon all!

pickledandpuzzled · 23/08/2023 15:24

How do you know what you have? Do you send for tests? I'm so out of the loop.

We don't go far, and don't have small dc, so haven't been ill for ages.

peachgreen · 23/08/2023 15:30

I've got it right now. Started with a sore throat, stingy sinuses, sneezing and general malaise and mild aches. Turned into a fairly mild cold and a dry cough. Last time I had it was way worse for me, but then again that was my first time.

Put far more eloquently than I could've managed. For me it has validated why I am feeling so dreadful and actually garnered sympathy from DH who said it's the worst he has ever felt

robinsnest1967 · 23/08/2023 16:27

Day 6 here. Started with a headache that even codeine or volfast would shift. Then awful sore throat which I still have and I've just woken up from a 4 hour nap. Meh.

Mumdiva99 · 23/08/2023 16:49

Husband had it. Had to Don the dressing gown of doom and take to his bed....actually he worked through it slowly- he works from home so this was possible.
Then I got it - sore throat, nasty sniffles - ending with luminous yellow snot. And some fatigue. I would have put it down to a cold...but husband had tested because we were supposed to visit relatives.
Now I think son has it but no test available. Temp, headache and vomiting.
