I'm 53, no health issues and tested positive on Tuesday for the 1st time. I'm triple vaccinated and I feel absolutely awful, I can't stop coughing, I ache, I'm tired, no appetite and just want it to be over. Paracetamol does nothing, I feel panicked when I'm coughing to. I can breathe OK without tightness or wheezing which is a relief. I really hope its not worse tomorrow as its grim now. My 15 year old DD is on day 6 and she was really poorly to, it knocked her off her feet and she's very fit and healthy. I just need a handhold I think to see me through 😊

Donutface2 as awful at it sounds it’s comforting to know I’m not alone lol, yesterday I decided to admit defeat and stop trying to make myself feel better and rest. I realised this morning that I’ve mebbe taken the hit a bit as I’ve scar tissue on my from blood clots and pneumonia from a couple of years ago, amd truth be told I think covid has caused a bit of pneumonia again. Coughing is better, nasal congestion a bit better, but still wiped out and feel like I’m breathing soup. Hope you pick up soon :-)

Rockschooldropout · 20/10/2022 17:23

Joining in if I may ? I am day six from testing positive , partner is day 8 . He was in bed for a few days quite poorly but seems to be much improved now , not feeling ill just tired .
I’ve got long covid and am CEV , thought I’d got off lightly at first but body aches and headache kicked in the evening of my positive test (Friday) Saturday was spent dozing on the sofa and Sunday I felt much better . However Monday evening my nose started feeling congested .. it’s almost as though I’ve plunged my head into salt water.. really horrible and my chest feels like it’s got quick drying cement in it .. feel rough again today and woke up with blocked clicking ears , congestion in chest and nose and complete loss of smell .. Feeling very sorry for myself ! (Still testing positive)

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 20/10/2022 17:37

Day 23 I think. Starting to lose the will to live. My nose blocked on day 12 and remains so to different levels. My cough is horrid although the inhaler helps. I had a chest x-ray to make sure the cough is from covid and nothing else.

Feeling very sorry for myself.

Fivehares · 23/10/2022 19:46

Thin I’m day 17 now fine or take . I’m much better on the whole . But cough has come back and it’s hacking . The fatigue when it hits is awful. Don’t think husband believes me when I say I need to rest . Gone to bed already as working tomorrow. I sympathise with everyone still
suffering

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 23/10/2022 21:26

I'm on day 26 and still feel horrible. I was at work today, coughing away and everyone was asking if I should actually be there I sounded and looked so awful.

ThissIzMee · 23/10/2022 22:20

I feel really sad reading these posts.

I hope you all start to feel much better very soon. Please take your recovery seriously.

I am on day 600+ from testing positive (I've obviously lost count) and am still experiencing many of the debilitating symptoms you describe. I've lost life as I know because of one Covid infection, including my job and my independence.

Please don't rush back to life as before, take things easy for longer than you think you need. Hopefully you will be ok, but no one can predict or guarantee this. The best way to avoid long term covid-onset disability is to rest, rest, rest.

RaininSummer · 23/10/2022 23:15

This is all bit scary. I am still coughing and tired etc and on about day 26 I think. Dreading my work week as seem to get one good day then two bad.

Fungifips · 24/10/2022 07:38

Day 42833745 (16) lol and although tested negative a week ago I’m still coughing and fatigued, still no sense of smell. Got to say this is not anything like the flu or a cold, I can bounce back easily from those,

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 24/10/2022 10:02

This is day 27 and still coughing in a horrendous way. Couldn't get through to the Dr today (which wasn't surprising) will try again tomorrow.

Honestly I feel so yuck. It feels like it is going on forever.

ihatethecold · 24/10/2022 14:48

Still coughing, so annoying!

never got a positive test result but had the same symptoms as my dd who was very positive at the beginning of oct.
my symptoms were mild due to having a 4th vaccine 3 weeks previously.

no lingering tiredness this time. Was knackered for a month in June when I got it.
the vaccine has really made a difference in how Covid affected me.
so grateful. I’m asthmatic and I’m doing ok. Apart from this flipping cough.

Fivehares · 26/10/2022 20:47

Amy tips re the cough . I have just coughed so badly I made myself sick and given myself a headache . Feeling ok other than that . Day 20 I think. Lost count now tbh

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 26/10/2022 21:40

@Fivehares I have used Benylin for my cough although it is now a chest infection so I have some antibiotics. I am on day 29 now and absolutely exhausted.

Fivehares · 26/10/2022 21:51

@whydoesitalwayshappentome I got some benylin today and took some . have smeared my chest in vick also tonight . Paracetamol taken too for headache which helped . Hope it all helps .

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 26/10/2022 21:53

@Fivehares I swear by Benylin these days. I also take a co-codamol and a squiz on the inhaler that the Dr gave me. I am throwing everything at it. I sound like I have croup.

Suffolkcatlady · 27/10/2022 07:26

I hope you all feel well soon. I just wanted to give you some hope. It’s nearly 6 weeks since I tested positive and it was horrendous - similar to what you are experiencing but I’m now feeling fine . I worried about long covid in about week 4 as I couldn’t shake it off especially the brain fog and heart palpitations. Yesterday was the first day I didn’t take any paracetamol and I am now feeling 95% normal and living my normal life again. I rang the GP on week 3 and he said it takes about 6 weeks to feel ok and now I’m coming up to that I feel he was right. So look after yourselves and rest as much as you can. Give it 5-6 weeks and hopefully you will turn a corner. It’s definately not a flu it’s a multi system illness.

Fivehares · 27/10/2022 08:29

Just a tip that the vick rub smeared all over chest and neck and benylin and paracetamol gave me a cough free night . Also took the benylin first thing this morning . May keep on top of it !
@Suffolkcatlady thsts reassuring

Fungifips · 27/10/2022 08:53

Day 20 and now on antibiotics for pneumonia and sinus related problems. Absolute nightmare! Please get in touch with your doc if suffering after a negative test (there was a week from testing positive with full blown covid and then a neg). Was was 8 days post negative test and chest and head getting worse, doc said this shouldn’t be happening after testing negative. Pain in back, coughing up alsorts, congestion and still no blinking smell/taste!

justasking111 · 27/10/2022 09:27

I agree OH had flu/covid pre all the testing. Ended up with pleurisy was very poorly. Antibiotics essential in his case.

Fungifips · 01/11/2022 08:29

Ok. So I’m about 24 days in and two weeks from negative test. Had a course of antibiotics for pneumonia and lungs feel like they’ve taken a battering. Nose sinuses still congested and no sense of smell, not like with a normal sinus infection, just the sense has completely disappeared. Anyone experienced similar after a bout of covid? Trying to keep my spirits up as live alone but it’s a bit of a battle!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/11/2022 09:01

Bless you it is horrid isn't it. I am five weeks in today. Still have a kind of blocked nose (over three weeks with that in residence) I have had antibiotics for a chest infection which I finished yesterday and it feels like it is coming back. The fatigue is ridiculous plus numerous other issues.

ComeOnThenFanny · 01/11/2022 13:15

I got sent home from work yesterday after being a bit tired to feeling absolutely dreadful in about 2 hours. Got home and tested positive, it's my first time! 52 and triple jabbed.
Man alive, the last time I felt that bad was when I had the flu in 1995. Honestly thought I might be dying last night.
Thankfully a bit better today, I just can't get out of bed other than to go to the loo. Like a lot of you, I thought I was immune!

ComeOnThenFanny · 01/11/2022 13:16

I was expecting something a lot milder. I can totally understand how this has been so serious for so many. I'm so sorry for all of you.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/11/2022 14:19

I actually had this notion I would be asymptomatic (pie in the sky idea that). I had glandular fever years ago and this reminds me of the lingering effects of that.

I am triple jabbed also.

Fivehares · 11/11/2022 17:45

How is everyone doing now ? I am 5 weeks from my positive test . On the whole I have improved except for fatigue periods . I am so tired this eve my eyes are rolling in my head . I have a cough on and off . Not back walking yet but managed to swim this week . All I want to eat is high carb and fruit stuff so good and bad ! My big problem is when I get fatigued I get emotional and I cried today and not for first time . Over all though I’m getting there

RaininSummer · 11/11/2022 19:03

Over 6 weeks now and mainly fine but the cough and slightly chesty feeling us hanging about. I also keep waking at 4am but that may not be linked.
