I'm 53, no health issues and tested positive on Tuesday for the 1st time. I'm triple vaccinated and I feel absolutely awful, I can't stop coughing, I ache, I'm tired, no appetite and just want it to be over. Paracetamol does nothing, I feel panicked when I'm coughing to. I can breathe OK without tightness or wheezing which is a relief. I really hope its not worse tomorrow as its grim now. My 15 year old DD is on day 6 and she was really poorly to, it knocked her off her feet and she's very fit and healthy. I just need a handhold I think to see me through 😊

Day 12 and I still seem to be getting new symptoms that I didn’t get in the first week. Today I’ve had a bad stomach ache and feeling nauseous , so annoying, worried it’ll never clear!

I really suffered with nausea and stomach ache and a bit of diarrhoea from about day 10 to…well…it must have been around the end of the third week or maybe even later. Off my food for quite a while. It seems to be the grand finale symptoms but they linger.

Day 11 here . Still exhausted but managing to do chores very slowly . I was supposed to go back to work today but know I am not able for it . I have taken a couple of days leave and hope I will get back Wednesday. I honestly never imagined I would be this wiped out . I love my walks and swims and can’t even envisage getting back to it . I actually cried this morning over it all . I thought I would be well enough to work today .

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 17/10/2022 09:19

I am on day 20 and still feel rough. I have such a bad chest. I am wheezing and coughing well. I am on day 8 of having a blocked nose which sucks and the lack of energy is ridiculous.

Tried to get into the Dr today as she told me I must do if I was still struggling once my sick note runs out, but of course I couldn't.

Fivehares · 17/10/2022 09:38

@whydoesitalwayshappentome Gosh that’s not good . My chest etc is mostly cleared bar clearing the gunge ( tmi sorry ) . Have you started taking a tonic ? I started pharmaton today so hoping that helps .

i found vick rub helped with the stuffiness and I think the antihistamine too . But have stopped all that now . Maybe it might help you .

wish I could say more to help . Day 20 is a long time to feel bad . Hope you get your sick note sorted . I don’t think there is enough been done to help people who are sick with this . I either take unpaid leave or annual leave . Didn’t even get 1 day paid sick .

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 17/10/2022 12:15

Day 15. Still congested, mild but irritating sore throat, headache/fuzzy head, slightly raised temperature, tinnitus loud again (always have it but usually manageable), persistent mostly dry cough, eyes hurt, very tired but managing to go for short walks.

I'm working, but not very effectively.

Feeling very miserable. Sending sympathy to fellow travellers.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 17/10/2022 13:10

@Fivehares I take loads of vitamins already or a tonic would be an ace idea.

I work for the NHS so I do get paid for being off sick but we rely on weekend enhancements and so I will be working this weekend as I have already missed one this month.

I will try calling tomorrow, we have to phone in at 8am. I just need to see if I am just struggling to shift it or whether I have a chest infection.

RaininSummer · 17/10/2022 19:46

I went back to work on Saturday. Still feel quite under the weather. Bit of a headache, cough and breathless going up stairs. Walking to work was hard work. Head still a bit fuzzy and soo tired. It's been three weeks today. Am hoping the rest of the symptoms will go in a week or so.

ShirleyHolmes · 17/10/2022 22:06

It just vile! Neither my partner or I had had it before and expected a bad cold.
Partner is bedbound, headache, earache, aches all over, temperature. She tested positive on Saturday, along with our daughter whose fine.

I tested positive today- r

ShirleyHolmes · 17/10/2022 22:11

Really high temperatures, awful head, nausea etc, shakes, wheezing and so on. I can't read, watch tv or sleep so time moves v slowly. Conversely, DW is sleeping 20 out of 24 hours.

I'd expected a cold type thing and being able to WFH - no chance. I won't be back till next week at the earliest.

I'm only a few months into this job too.

Sending solidarity to all, it's shite!

Fivehares · 18/10/2022 07:47

Shirley keep on top of flu remedies like lemsip . Drink lots , rest lots . Hope you get back to work next week . I’m hoping beyond hope to go tomorrow but I do feel much better this morn . Think I’m day 12 now losing count .

eurochick · 18/10/2022 08:09

I've also just got it for the first time. I was beginning to think we had some sort of immunity as no one in our household or my parents' had ever tested positive. Then my parents both got it on holiday last month. And then my husband and our daughter tested positive yesterday. I was negative but a few hours later I started getting the same symptoms as my husband so it got me too!

My worst symptom is joint pain. My hips in particular are really painful. Even my toe joints hurt when I walk.

Kcc73 · 18/10/2022 10:02

Hi, I'm day 5 and feeling awful and can't imagine feeling well again! I have chronic health issues (though not cev) so frequently feel unwell with fatigue and aches anyway, and I guess I feared by body wouldn't take covid lightly. Had some vomiting and most awful stomach cramps on day 2/3 and nausea persists plus loss of most of taste now.

But I was just wondering, for those of you still poorly after 10 days+, are you still testing as positive?

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 18/10/2022 10:39

Day 21. I have just been to the Dr and have steroids and another inhaler as mine is getting low. I was popular coughing in the waiting room although I did wear my mask.

Not testing positive no. Was negative on day 9 I think but did not leave the house till day 11.

Furcoatandnoknickerz · 18/10/2022 13:03

Also day 21, still feel exhausted, dizzy and lightheaded, doing any small activity ie having a shower absolutely does me for about an hour. No way I could drive 20 miles to work and do my job.
Cough is starting to get better, Drs on Thursday.

Doughnuts68 · 18/10/2022 14:29

does anyone know if you have to wait to have flu jab after having covid?

Blix · 18/10/2022 15:09

I tested positive 3 weeks ago, nasty cold symptoms and was fine by day 8.
I thought I'd got off very light compared to my last experience when I ended up in hospital. However I am still getting tired easily and sleeping 9+ hours a night.
I have asthma and auto immune disease.

octonautsmom · 18/10/2022 15:48

Just tested positive for the first time on Sunday. Not sure how long I've had it, I started to feel really poorly 12 days ago but took a test and it was negative, felt like I just had a bad cold which seemed to be getting slightly better everyday, until Friday when I started with a cough and tight chest and then went right back to feeling awful, which was when I decided to test again and it was positive.

Saw a dr on Sunday as I was so breathless and he said I have a chest infection aswell so he put me on antibiotics. My first symptoms were aches all over, a headache like I've never had before, nausea, diarrhoea, tight chest, breathlessness. Today is the first day I've woken up feeling slightly better but the tiredness is unbelievable, I'm sleeping 5ish hours in the day and then still sleeping all night. Just getting in the car to pick the kids up exhausts me.

Please tell me it gets better!

eurochick · 18/10/2022 16:08

Doughnuts68 · 18/10/2022 14:29

does anyone know if you have to wait to have flu jab after having covid?

I don't think so. My parents had covid last month and have since had their flu jab. They should have had a covid booster at the same time but have to wait a number of weeks past infection for that so will have it separately.

Furcoatandnoknickerz · 18/10/2022 16:52

@Doughnuts68 I had my flu jab yesterday, ( day 20) the pharmacist said it would be fine, I may just feel even more crap for a couple of days. Been ok, just an achey arm. Feel just as exhausted as ever.

Signalbox · 18/10/2022 18:07

My symptoms started on Sunday. The headache is my worst symptom. Paracetamol doesn’t seem to do anything at all. I can’t believe some of you have been suffering so long. After 3 vaccinations I was expecting something quite mild and short lived!

octonautsmom · 18/10/2022 18:24

@Signalbox the headaches are awful aren't they. I've found even lying down to sleep hurts my head Sad

Signalbox · 18/10/2022 18:30

octonautsmom never had one like it! And yes lying down doesn’t seem to help. And when I cough I think my head might explode.

Fungifips · 19/10/2022 09:02

Day 9 after positive test and I feel rotten still. Had a negative test on day 7 but I’ve gone downhill again from yesterday. I live on my own so finding it tough going now with not being able to socialise or even up to walking my dog.

chills/aches/fatigue is like nothing I’ve experienced before
loss of taste/smell
all the usual flu like symptoms and sinus drip onto chest
head fog is unreal, keep having to check to see what day it is!

just taking paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly at mo, feel like it’ll never end right now!

Donutface2 · 19/10/2022 15:52

Fungifips I too am on day 9 and frustrated I still feel rough. Cough and sinuses much improved but oh my god the fatigue and headache are still so bad. Whole family have it and we all agree we feel like we have reduced cognitive capacity. And I’ve gone deaf in one ear. Really hope we all start improving soon.
