I'm 53, no health issues and tested positive on Tuesday for the 1st time. I'm triple vaccinated and I feel absolutely awful, I can't stop coughing, I ache, I'm tired, no appetite and just want it to be over. Paracetamol does nothing, I feel panicked when I'm coughing to. I can breathe OK without tightness or wheezing which is a relief. I really hope its not worse tomorrow as its grim now. My 15 year old DD is on day 6 and she was really poorly to, it knocked her off her feet and she's very fit and healthy. I just need a handhold I think to see me through 😊

I am over six weeks from my positive test, still coughing, still exhausted and my Dr thinks I have post covid arthritis which is marvellous-not.

justasking111 · 11/11/2022 22:13

My DIL had covid Xmas 2019 before they even acknowledged it's existence, a week in wound up in hospital. Staff were baffled but antibiotics given. It took her until April to feel normal again. This latest type despite the vaccines carries the same punch.

Was at the hospital today mask wearing back this time it's the flu taking up beds. This years edition is a doozy the nurse said. From Monday all staff and visitors will have to wear masks

Fungifips · 12/11/2022 12:39

Week six I think, and got to say I am finding comfort In reading these comments. Still got sinus infection and cough after antibiotics and too short a prescription of penicillin, will call docs again on Monday as it’s affecting my mental health now. Tiredness is crap, not like me to feel so fatigued all the time. There virtually nothing I the news anymore about covid and figures but I do not want to get it again I know that much!

Rockschooldropout · 21/11/2022 11:48

I’m five weeks from testing positive and still very tight chested and congested feeling . Dr checked me over and said lungs are clear and I’ve got to give myself at least six weeks and up to 12 weeks .. fatigue isn’t so bad and apart from that I feel ok but it feels like my lungs are being squeezed

Furcoatandnoknickerz · 21/11/2022 14:35

@Rockschooldropout I also went to Gp, two months in, fatigue, dizziness, still, coughing and wheezing, but apparently my chest is clear too , so no chest X-ray.

Do gps not realise that a Covid cough is dry, so your chest will sound clear unless there’s an infection.
Without an X-ray, you can’t see any damage to the lungs. They all seem to be on a cost cutting mission.

Rockschooldropout · 21/11/2022 16:52

@Furcoatandnoknickerz it really feels that way .. I asked for a chest x Ray and she refused even though I’m now waking in the night gasping for breath as well now abc am living on thirty minutes sleep a night

Furcoatandnoknickerz · 21/11/2022 19:57

@Rockschooldropout it’s not good is it , I’ve been asthmatic for twenty years I’m on a 2x day steroid inhaler with ventolin for back up, haven’t needed back up for 3 years, just started using ventolin on occasions.

Rockschooldropout · 21/11/2022 20:21

I’ve already got long covid and have been waiting two years for a respiratory appointment! My gp seemed fairly complacent when I saw her and just told me to sleep sitting up ! I’ve now decided to look into a private respiratory appointment, the general attitude seems to be disinterest and “oh give it a few more weeks “

Furcoatandnoknickerz · 21/11/2022 21:01

@Rockschooldropout this is exactly the attitude I’m getting!
I saw a Gp on Saturday, who admitted he didn’t know much about it. I think this is the problem. It’s so new and research is ongoing.
I have an asthma nurse, I’m actually due a review, but haven’t heard anything yet.

Fungifips · 22/11/2022 07:58

Think it’s 9 weeks since I tested positive and 8 since testing negative. Just finished 3rd round of antibiotics for chest and sinusitis, still not got smell back and breathless when walking, sometimes lungs still feel soupy when breathing as well. I used to listen to other people describing covid and think oh it’s just a bad dose of flu, it isn’t. Hope everyone feels healthier soon :-)

Secretname123 · 29/12/2022 16:06

I’m on day 20 and feeling shaky and a bit delirious like I did for the first couple of days! I hadn’t been feeling great but had been better than this I feel like back to square one. Over Christmas I felt ok unless I tried to go for a walk, so I didn’t and had honestly been resting. I don’t have lingering cough/cold symptoms. It seems to be dizziness, heavy limbs and fatigue and my heartrate is erratic-120 at 5am and 60 at 5pm and everything in between!

Gfozzy · 03/01/2023 19:49

So I’m joining the Pity party! Been in hospital over Xmas and new year with influenza A. On tamiflu and lots of fluids etc, then felt much better yesterday, thought I’m finally turning a corner. Today I wake up feeling shitty decide to do a covid test and lo and behold I have poxy covid!!!
my poor body can’t take much more. The flu this year was pretty nasty though but the back pain with the covid is something else

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 03/01/2023 20:50

That sounds awful @Gfozzy hope you are feeling better soon, keep resting.

I agree the covid backache was awful, that was my first symptom.

Gfozzy · 04/01/2023 09:28

@whydoesitalwayshappentome yes it is awful! Although done another test this morning for it to be fainter than yesterday (barely noticeable) so I’m wondering if I had covid and flu at the same time. I’m so bloody confused.
still have full on body aches and fatigue but I can’t help but question what is going on?!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 04/01/2023 18:32

@Gfozzy I think it isn't unheard of to have flu and covid together.

I still have the fatigue 14 weeks in and it is a struggle.

Gfozzy · 04/01/2023 22:17

@whydoesitalwayshappentome I agree it’s very rare. But I tested positive for influenza A at the hospital and then positive for covid at home and have been advised flu wouldn’t effect the test results for the covid swab as different viruses.
who bloody knows!

im sorry you are still struggling 14 weeks in! Have you had all your blood levels like iron and B12 checked?

Fluffyhoglets · 05/01/2023 00:52

I've had a horrible cold before and over Xmas. Tested negative for covid and didn't seem as bad as flu and have now just tested positive for covid for the first time - so think I've caught that after the first illness. So far its like a nasty cold so hoping it doesn't get any worse. I'm sorry so many of you are suffering so badly with covid.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/01/2023 05:58

@Gfozzy Yes I have had my bloods checked. Everything OK apart from raised CRP levels, they think it has triggered an autoimmune disease.(I have swollen painful joints as well). I speak to a rheumatologist next week. Whether the fatigue and brain fog I have is related to that or a separate issue I don't know.

ScarlettSunset · 05/01/2023 08:37

Another person here wanting to say how awful it is. I've no particular health issues that I know of and I guess I'll be OK eventually, but it's so much worse than I expected.

I feel dreadful. I'm finding it so painful which I really wasn't expecting. I've lost my appetite which will probably help with the new year diet but was also unexpected.
This is my first experience with Covid and I really was just expecting it to be like a cold, but it really isn't.
I hope everyone else suffering with it feels better soon too, and those with other conditions that are making it even worse are all able to get the treatment they need to make it bearable.

breadwidow · 29/01/2023 14:42

Combination of reassuring and worrying to read this and other threads. I'm on day 7 of second covid bout, testing negative now but I still don't feel right at all - much worse than my first brush with it in 2021. However I have retained sense of taste n smell so far (that went at around day 2 last time).
